One is opening on Okeechobee in WPB. It's going where the Ashley Furniture place used to be behind the McDonalds. I'm not sure when. That is what I was trying to find out.

And for all of these people bashing others...grow up. I promise you I will not invite you over to eat any of the "welfare" food I buy from there if you just stop being idiots and flaunting the fact that you shop at Walmart or Target. Like those two are any better lol.

You're right, Walmart and Target aren't any better, that's why I shop at Publix.

We went to one recently on Military and Linton, and my husband asked how long till one is closer to us ? We were told not till Nov. I don't know if that is the one that is going to be on Okeechobee or not, that would be closer to us I think. As in Lakeworth/Greenacres area ? But we don't know anymore than that. We still have to pack up with coolers when we get the frozen items. But we have found ourselves going to the closer grocery stores for the 'little' things that we run out of, and get the major things when we can manage the time to do so. So the bickering about the others isn't even a consideration to us. Mrs. J.C.

Not really complaining. Publix is 2 miles from my house. I go frequently to get things fresh. It would be nice to see a Trader Joe's. That's a great store.

I used to live on a farm so I know about those long drives to the grocer. It was a drag. Whole process ook about 2 hours.

The closest one to us is less than two miles away, and they are so common that you see them in almost every major intersection of the area here. Never have I seen so many in so close a proximity to where we live. They most certainly have a monopoly here in FL. They are also present in the north, but not to the extent that they are here. I will be looking forward to the Aldis when they can be closer to where we live.

The most recent information we have learned regarding the time of when the Aldis will be ready won't be now, until DEC, because of roofing desired to be done for hurricane safety reasons. Since I am not familiar with those regulations I don't know how long that means, or how much effort it is needed to make it safer to shop there. Am looking forward to when it will be operational, and it is closer to us than where we have been going in a way, though we had been closer to Okeechobee location the time driving is about the same ironically .

Just opened an Aldi's here in WPB but haven't tried them yet. Comments both pro & con on here are interesting. Will, have to see for myself. Not liking the fact they are a foreign store for the simple reason I want to support AMERICAN corporations or better yet, independents/small business owners. However, cost vs quality is a definite concern for my family. Would rather cut back elsewhere & pay more for good, HEALTHY food than sacrifice food quality because it is cheaper. If it's cheaper because it is 'no-frills', like baggers, for instance, I'm ok w/ that. Had a store here a while back with the "quarters for carts" deal...no sweat. They had good products, good prices, and you brought your own bags/boxes to cart it all home in. Now THAT's a DEAL!

My daughter works in warehouse in mich. Part time and gets full benifits. Hard work but she gets paid well. The groceries are more reasonable and tastes great. Wal marts food is quite ecpensive and larger gr ok cery chains are outrageous.

We will have Whole Foods in a few days. Some say you will pay 3 times what you would in a regular store, but it's all good, right? Only people on short rations/food stamps typically go to Aldi's and there's not one here. I'm not sure exactly where it is. The only items I'd shop for at Target would be things like coffee or packaged things but not produce or other fresh items. Walmart has horrible produce and their departments look ravaged. I haven't been in one in months, maybe even a year.

The small HEB stores are like shopping in a third world country. The large one with the deli, floral shop, sushi counter, cooking demos, etc. is great if you like walking miles because there is rarely any parking that isn't far, far away.

You are wrong when you say "only people on short rations/food stamps typically go to Aldi's" I am on neither and regularly shop there as do many of my friends, some of whom could out buy many of us. Being budget conscious is why we have money for other things. Aldi's offer quality food at decent price. Find a store, shop and try their foods before you make such a judgement.
