Mom found dead after random gunfire

Investigators said the 40-year-old mother of three was shot in west Orlando about 2:30 a.m. Late Saturday, police were trying to figure out exactly what happened and whom to blame.

i like to know when something is going to be done about all the crime that has destroyed what was once a nice play to live and call home--it doesn't matter if its crime hills, deadwood, etc--there are constant shootings, robberies, rapes, etc and nothing is being done about it--but the police feel they can sit around and write tickets for speeding, bother the homeless when there are no jobs to be had in the first place, pull you over for no seatbelt, etc but when there is this type of crime all over nothing is being done about it to protect the innocent lives that surround this city--there is no place safe to live around here--too many guns, too many gangs, way too much crime--these people get caught and get released, why?--50 rounds? where were the police with so many rounds going off?--AMAZING--

I'm a real estate property manager. I showed a prospective tenant a condo. in a nice area today. He told telling me where he currently lives that City of Orlando police ticket people for seat belt infractions but don't do anything about the 12 to 15 yr. olds carrying guns on the street, fully displayed and being used to randomly fire into occupied dwellings, etc. The gangs think people and their pets are for "target practice". I know Judges let almost everyone out of jail to pay their stipend to the state probation office (that's all the state cares about) but it's time the police start to enfore LAWS !!!

But I must say I don't condone letting teenagers (her son and nephew were "normally home by 2am" when they went out) have that kind of curfew...nothing good is happening at 2am, so they shouldn't be out there at all....so many times putting yourself in a situation where very little good can happen and very little bad can happen leads to exactly what you would expect ==> very bad things happening.

For the record, not using a seatbelt and speeding infractions ARE covered by laws that are on the books. Police ARE enforcing the law.

Before communities complain about lack of police protection, think hard! How many times is there a shooting and people you KNOW, witout a doubt, who saw or heard or know something refuse to cooperate with police. They won't narc out their neighbors/relatives/friends. It is a citizens responsibility to assist police in their investigations.

I've have always maintained that 'nothing good happens at 2 in the morning!' People should be home in their beds or if out partying, remain at the party site and wait for the sun to come up. Bad people are out then, people up to no good. I have far too little sympathy for anyone who suffers the consequences. And why would a mother allow her son and nephew to be out until 2 a.m. routinely? That's what the article says! Bet neither of them are Honor Society students, not if they are keeping those hours. That's setting them up to fail.

If the Police have already arrested these offenders and the Offenders are being let back out on the street,(By whomsoever) and sometimes these offenders are even protected by the community that they are terrorizing. Haven't the Police already done their part by arresting them in the first place? These offenders and those who cover for them are a disgrace to their race. I would like to convey my condolences to the family and loved ones of Selina Ellis. This is a terrible tragedy for them, for Orlando, for Florida and for our country. That this type of crime(no matter what the time of day or night is) is commonplace in any community in this great land of ours is totally unacceptable.

From a person that grew up in that neighborhood!!Anyone that posted anything negitive about this story I feel sorry for you!! This was a caring woman and she was just out protecting and looking for family. I know that this doesn't condone anything that happened in this situation. But let me ask this "If any of you are up waiting for a son or daughter to come home, You too would have gone out looking for them not caring about what time it was?" I think that if I had a feeling in my heart that something was wrong I would have went out!!! You people can't and don't live in others shoes!!! There is violence everywhere, this lady was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. And this is unfortunate that she had to get gunned down, but if that was anybody else in this neighborhood believe me a bullet has no names!!! My heart goes out to the family! I have a problem with all this negative talk. This WOMEN OF GOD happens to be my COUSIN and what happened to her can happen to any one of YOU......Why put race and politics in this? It is what it is. We as people need to come to gether and AND FOCUS ON THE VIOLENCE. Stop blaming everybody else and focus..........Guess what there are worse crimes that other races commit.
