Too little too late, I am a business traveler, well aware of the WALDO SPEED TRAP. I always slow down, and often visit local businesses, for a much need break. On my most recent trip I pulled into the Sunoco Dunkin Donuts which happened to be closed, turned around and left as I had come in, and got a 154 dollar ticket for turning around. This parking area is actually also a road. The stop sign is a bit back from the road, a road which has a departing merge lane. I never saw the stop sign, there was nobody in the Sunoco lot, and nobody coming either direction on 301. Officer Steadman (825) was polite, and courteous. But lacked any compassion, he couldn’t be bothered to ask me anything about the circumstances behind me missing the stop sign. Stop – Ticket – Bye – less than 5 minutes. The road might look like a road along the hotel side, but certainly looks like a parking lot pull in/out – if the city is going to be handing out tickets they should make the entrance look like a road, with curbing on both sides and an entrance to DD/Sunoco down the ‘road’ aways’ like the hotel.
The outcome, I like the little diversion 301 offers, stopped at the local Walmart, Wendey’s, Mac Donalds, and some of the little stores for a break from my 10 hour bi-monthly commute. I average about $250 dollars a month to the local economy (ok mostly in Sunoco gas and DD coffee…) BUT I WILL NEVER BE BACK. The mentality of the officers will take a long time to change, and quite frankly I cannot afford or be bothered with the trouble. The I75 exits will be getting my business now. It’s a bit farther, a bit longer but much safer.
No cars coming, nobody in the lot, nobody on the road. I clearly admitted to my ‘mistake’. But the officer never bothered to ask me anything about it. And really a warning would have been more than sufficient. You’re killing you economy with your un-officer friendly - ways. I hope for Waldo’s future the new chief – changes the attitude. Help motorist see their mistakes, but don’t ‘shoot’ them or the local business, for their CRIMES!

WALDO - and The Sheriffs Department there are crooked. So crooked that insurance companies don't believe them. Also AAA took out a 24.7 bill board about how crooked your speed traps are.-- Crooks like you I suspect.

No one gets a ticket for 1 or 2 miles over the speed limit. Florida law mandates only "warning" tickets can be written up to 5 miles over the limit(no fine).Waldo does not even bother to write tickets until speeders are over 10 miles over the limit.(Florida law mandates lower fines between 5-10
miles over. Check Waldos records and check state law.
