A bus driver in Ga by the name of Johnny Cook lost his job for standing up for a child who confided in him that he was denied a school lunch. He didn't have the .40 cents needed for his lunch and was turned away. Mr. Cook took to Facebook and posted his anger without mentioning any names and as a result, was fired. We need more people like Mr.Cook. We send millions in aid to other countries and yet, we still have children that are falling through the cracks. Please take the time and read Mr. Cook's story and join his crusade to help these kids and sign his petition for him to get his job back. http://www.opposingviews.com/i/technology/int...

at least this man took a stand for what he thought was right rather than sit idly by wishing things were different! I just saw his story on CNN.

We have children falling through the cracks because their dirtbag parents don't provide for them. How 'bout we hold THEM accountable instead of expecting handouts for their spawn??

Do you not have a heart? Is it their fault if they are unable to pay? We have no idea what any of these kids are facing once they leave school grounds. Lunch at school may be the only meal they get.

What part of "hold their parents accountable" did you not understand???? Handouts from the taxpayers are not the answer to any problem.

I am so glad my child doesnt attend this school...what would they have done on all those days she forgot her lunch money at home...just let her starve? Good to know there are still good, caring people such as this bus driver.
I signed his petition...others should to!

Yeah, missing one lunch would cause a kid to starve to death. Why didn't YOU make sure your kid had her lunch money???? If you can't take care of kids, don't have them!

If your premise is correct, then the children should be removed from their parents. Once that's done, sterilize the breeders so they can't simultaneously create and ruin another child. You bleeding heart idiots want the 'guvment' to be everyone's mommy and daddy. How about you use some common sense and blame the parents instead of everyone else?

WOW! I just checked out this forum and your posts are so cold hearted as to be unreal. I agree the parents should be held responsible, but for you to call the children "spawn" is dehumanizing. It is not the child's fault in any way and it is true the meal at school may be the best food they receive all day.

You can be reasonable and use common sense (deal with the parents) while providing a compassionate solution for the children.

So...you don't think the "guvment" becomes mommy and daddy when the State removed children from their parents? And in many cases, those children can be in bad circumstances or worse off than the situation they are removed from. Yes, the parents should be held accountable, by being sent a bill from the county for meals given when there's no payment in the child's hand.

It'll never happen, but I happen to agree with your "sterilization" concept, thereby holding those responsible for their OWN actions. I think that would solve a myriad of problems, but it'll never happen, even after the "guvment" takes many more of our rights than it already has.

What's cold hearted about expecting people to feed 'em if they breed 'em???? I raised three children to adulthood and they never once went to school without either a lunch or money for one. Why do you think it is the responsibility of ANYONE to feed kids except their parents??? We have allowed far too many parents to ignore their responsibilities by providing free lunches and breakfasts. Now we're supposed to pay for the kids whose parents can't be bothered to give them their lunch money??????? What next, we deliver lunch to the parents, too? Kids born to parents that irresponsible need to learn early that if you don't do what you're supposed to do, your family suffers. Kids would learn that they have a responsibility to take care of their own kids when they have them, instead of learning that if parents don't do the right thing, the nanny state government will provide. And I repeat, no kid is going to starve because they missed one lunch.

You don't ever know what situation a child is going through. That "one missed" meal might have been the only opportunity that child had to eat. Not every parent is a stand up "leave it to Beaver" type parent. It's just a sad reality. The law says that a child must go to go to school so why not make sure that he/she is being fed a hot meal? I would rather my tax dollars go toward feeding a hungry child than for it pay for some IRS azzhole's dinner or star war themed training video.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the Charles Darwin award to fall into my lap if I were you. Sorry Chuck, but your "premise" if that's(laughing) want to call it is completely off track. You need to change your screen name to something more your speed..maybe thug the slug. I hope that wasn't too fast for you...dumazz

The "sad reality" is that when we take care of their spawn by providing free meals, we take away all motivation for the parents to fulfill their responsibilities. That's why we have a huge welfare state, why we've doubled the food stamp rolls, why millions of people aren't interested in taking care of themselves and their families. Why bother if someone else will feed their kids???? I would rather my tax dollars stay in my paycheck, or failing that, be used for things that benefit everyone, like additional police and fire services, road improvements, etc. When you provide free food for kids, all you're doing is providing extra beer money for their useless parents.

If you had read my previous post, you would see that the parents should be billed for the meals. You want to allow children to suffer because of the sins of the parents. THAT's what is COLD HEARTED.

You get a medal for taking care of your kids. I guess if you're kids aren't hungry or neglected, you don't care about any other children. Nice.

My daughter works in a school district with some disadvantaged kids. She has bought lunch for children whose parents are too sorry to care if their kids eat. Some of those kids who get lunch eat everything, and I mean EVERYTHING on their plates. No picky eaters when you are not getting enough food...they eat the other kid's leftovers too if they can get 'em.

You are selfish, cold-hearted, without an ounce of compassion.

Oh and your mindless, thoughtless "theory" that the neglected kids will grow up then knowing to be responsible. Unfortunately, it is shown neglected, abused kids grow up to be neglected, abused adults. You talk outta your butt.
