Good Job Anon!!! I too was there. This is a tragic accident for both families involved. BTW "accident" means that no one ever meant for it to happen. And since when is it our place to judge anyone. I leave that to a higher authority.

We are Anthony's neighbor and the bike trail is about a mile from our house. He was a nice man and probably headed out to the trail when this happened. How kind of you to judge a man you do not know.
how are you his neighbors if you live in Ocala? He's from Winter Park, no where near you. But i agree with the rest of your sentiment.

Dodd road is not even near Winter Park ... did they mean Winter Springs or Tuskawilla or did the Slantinel misplace its map once again?

The is a narrow and winding road and bikers should not be on it (for their own safety).

Ya the censorship software on here is ridiculous!!! I know you mean diiiiiiiike road. LHHS indeed has a WP "mailing address," but its many miles away from the city. I think this may have happened in unincorporated Seminole County, not Winter Park at all. The Sentinel makes geographical errors almost every day. I don't think they have any editors or fact checkers (all fired).

But it isn't even *near* the city limits, its miles away. It is not Winter Park. It is a factual mistake to identify it as what it is not. Mailing addresses are for mail purposes, they do not necessarily correspond to geographical location, especially in Florida!!!! I think its actually either unincorporated Seminole County or Winter Springs, I'll have to look on a map since the Sentinel doesn't fact check anymore.

Apparently you never read the Florida DMV Driver Handbook that describes Florida law. It's online here: http://www.dmv.org/fl-florida/driver-handbook...

And it says:

"In Florida, the bicycle is legally defined as a vehicle. Bicyclists using a public roadway are considered operators of motor vehicles and are responsible for observing traffic laws. With few exceptions, there is only one road and it is up to motorists and bicyclists to treat each other with care and respect. Adherence to the law is the foundation of respect."

Jay from North Carolina, please stay in NC until you actually learn the rules of the road.

Yes you are right

DEAD right.

I'm sure it will be a great relief to your mourners that you were following the rules when you tried to match speed with a truck

First, bikes are vehicles that have every right to ride on the side of the road. Second, maybe the guy was headed to a trail. I face the same problem - it's about a two mile ride from my house alongside a busy road before I can get to a trail.
Finally, open your eyes and realize that car drivers are not the only ones on the road. Bicyclists, motorcycles, joggers - they're all people. Don't dismiss their lives so casually simply because you couldn't be bothered to look where you're going.
BUT.........Apparently the bike rider was riding AGAINST traffic.....otherwise they would not have collided head-on.

I swear...you rookies and your ACCIDENT logic. What morons you are. It was a CRASH and it was PROBABLY caused because someone was NOT USING DUE CARE.

Yes, and unfortunately, it was the person riding the bike that was not using due care. Riding on the wrong side of the road and not abiding by traffic laws is certainly not using due care.

It's really too bad, but I hope more bike riders will take care and follow the traffic laws. Never ride against traffic in the wrong lane.

My prayers and hope goes out to the family of the bicyclist and the girl in the SUV.

Ok, whats your point? The person who wasn't using "due care" was the bicyclist and thats all too it. It was an ACCIDENT, since she or he didn't mean to collide in to each other. The only moron here is you my dear.

That's sort of akin to a pilot who decides to land his plane with wheels up. After the plane slides down the runway, a gash is torn in a wing tank and the fuel ignites destroying the plane. Is the fire accidental? NO.........It's a result of a stupid decision! NOT AN ACCIDENT. I suppose you blame the rain for some crashes too. You must be a friggin' flannel shirted liberal.

I'm sorry, but you are incorrect. The location is unincorporated Seminole County. It is nowhere near the WPK city limits.

http://www.ci.winter-park.fl.us/2005/living/c...

The city limits map (from the actual city, not Google) makes it VERY clear. Shaded pink areas are within the city. Everything else is not.

NO PART of the actual city of Winter Park lies in SEMINOLE County. Any area in Seminole that uses a "Winter Park mailing address" is NOT part of that city in any way at all (ie no city taxes, no city services, no city election voting, no city police, no city utilites, etc). Mailing addresses are for mail delivery only, they do not denote geographical location, especially in FLA.

Get a life Razz; it's unincorporated Seminole County, but it has a Winter Park address. Don't you have something better to worry about?
