FYI, the State Police have a total of 5 tasers for the entire dept of more than 1200 troopers. Those 5 tasers are only issued to the tactical unit members. Regular troopers do not carry tasers.
Just as well..... the 9mm is far better to deal with a POS.

I knew this kid from the Dragon's Lair, I was saddened by his death but I wasn't at all suprised. He had a chip on his shoulder even back then.

Does anyone have a picture of Joe? I used to hang out at the Dragon's Lair.

<quoted text>Troy stop making excuses for Joe. The bottom line is you and your family and the rest of his friends had the oppourtunity to help him when he was alive but you did nothing to stop this run away train. Now that he is dead you are looking for every excuse in the book to blame everyone else for the out come. Face the facts your brother was a felon who lived by the knife and died by the knife. Face the facts and stop blaming the police and society. If your looking to blame someone look in the mirror. My heart goes out to the police that were put in the situation to shoot him.

I sincerely hope that every single one of you blooming idiots who are trashing the officers who did their jobs and rid the world of piece of trash disguised as a human being are someday the victim of someone just like "poor li'l Joe who had a hard life". And I assume that when that happens, you won't be bothering the police about your problem, because OMG they might have to kill the piece of garbage! As for his friends and family-where were you when he was becoming a habitual criminal? Nine times out of ten, this kind of trash comes from more trash just like him. Where was mama when he was learning to rape, rob, assault, steal? Raise your kids right and they don't end up dead on the street while committing crimes.

I really hate the fact that Joe died. I met him at school in Newington High and saw him against after we both transferred to Hall High in West Hartford. It always felt to me like he had a good soul somewhere inside, but I don't think anyone knew where. I'm not going to lie, he was a really scary guy. I don't think I know a single person that came into contact with him that he didn't scare. He had a girlfriend out in Newington and he used to randomly flip her desk over with her still sitting in it. He never hurt her, but always let her know he could if he wanted to. He used to brag to our mutual friends about robbing people at knife point. He'd ride around on his roller blades and just do it for kicks, or for drug money. He was pretty deep into a few drugs, mostly heroine. It's so sad that he wasn't able to find some sort of salvation; I know his sister from school, too, and she's the sweetest girl who always has such a bright smile on her face. I know they came from a rough background, but it's always baffled me how amazingly their sister turned out vs how horribly he turned out. I don't know they're brother, so I can't speak about him. As sad as I am about the cops having shot him, it has to be understood that they had no other choice in this matter. He had made a sport out of robbing people, he's escalated to robbing a bank, he's rapped at least one woman, stolen vehicles, taken the police on a chase, and whether he charged at them empty handed, with a knife, or whether he was trying to run away, the point is he was a severe danger to society. Years later, I'm now a mother of 2, and I can't tell you how much scarier it would be for me to know that Joe Bak was out there causing the havok he was back then. Places that were generally seen as safe like West Hartford Center in the middle of a bright sunny afternoon? They weren't safe when Joe was around. Those are the places he targeted; "safe" places. I'm so incredibly sad for Joe's family. They're not to blame for his choices, and unfortunately they have to suffer their consequences. They've lost a family member, they have to deal with the pain of losing him on top of the grief he caused during his brief life. I hope they're able to find peace, and I hope one day they're able to understand the choices made by the police that day. I think if any one of us were in their shoes we might make a similar choice, whether we were proud of it or not.

I met and fell madly in love w the girl he "allegedly" raped 6 months after this indecent. I know every detail of what happened. I myself ABSOLUTELY do not condone in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM what he did, but, the bottom line is this, the kid was a clinically diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, with serious drug problems. The situation could have been handled differently.
YES, police are trained to protect the innocent from criminals and have to deal with life and death situations, BUT THEY ARE ALSO TRAINED TO HANDLE "suicide by cop" situations, and thats EXACTLY WHAT THIS WAS. ALSO, LAST TIME I CHECKED NO ONE FORCED THE OFFICERS TO BECOME COPS.. IF YOU CAN'T STAND THE HEAT, STAY THE FUCK OUTTA THE KITCHEN. For the record, his family have since sued the w hartford police w wrongful death, and won..

It's too bad that his dirtbag family got rich from their spawn's corpse. Had they raised him right, or even gotten him adequate treatment IF he was indeed mentally ill, he would be alive today. Instead, he's dead, some decent officers have had their careers ruined, and his family has probably spent all the money on cars, drugs and booze. We MUST overhaul our legal system so that if your family member dies while committing a crime, you CANNOT sue ANYONE. It's YOUR fault.

Just watching some trial coverage from the "best friend" of GZ.
Thought that was Frank Taaffe.

Florida is a nasty place in many areas. It appears one should do some research before flying or driving to Florida. I've been several times but can not say that I miss it. If I want to be somewhere with searing heat, I can just go to the beach here. I don't need to go to Disneyworld in Orlando more than once.
