u are so wrong on so many levels im very close to puking. robbed a bank ? he slipped the teller a note never implying he had a weapon on him or showing a weapon. raped a woman? actually this was a very confused girl who has cheated on so many men and confessed secrets about how she liked to be abused during sex. ive been told by many witness that joe was running away from the police when they shot him, they are just lookin for a reason to kill. its really sick how u ppl believe everything u read , u dont think the press gloriy info to make the story more appealing? the girl has contacted the police and the htfd courant stating she wasnt pressing charges and the author of the article is being investigated (possibly fired) for releasing info that wasnt supposed to be released. i talked to personally to the detective so my info has a reliable source.
And here we have it folks...more commentary from the sidelines! STFU please!

Troy stop making excuses for Joe. The bottom line is you and your family and the rest of his friends had the oppourtunity to help him when he was alive but you did nothing to stop this run away train. Now that he is dead you are looking for every excuse in the book to blame everyone else for the out come. Face the facts your brother was a felon who lived by the knife and died by the knife. Face the facts and stop blaming the police and society. If your looking to blame someone look in the mirror. My heart goes out to the police that were put in the situation to shoot him.

Everybody makes mistakes its just a shame that Joe will never have the chance to turn himself around or make up for thoose mistakes thanks to stupid connecticut cops that play god!
Jessica if you had read ALL my comments what i said to Mr E was a joke. I knew Joe and am very upset by what had happened. I have said all along that no one deserves to die.

It's hard to imagine a life without a silver spoon to eat with, or a golden cup to drink...but for all those with picture-perfect christmas photos and easter family dinners, it might be a little harder to imagine a life full of unanswered questions, and guidance only limited by your own ability. 23 years of life dubbed by the police and media as a "trash" and "scum" would sure be alot easier than to indentify a real problem with today's cities we live in. Any person with such ignorance and/or arrogance as to assume the last events of this man's life, represents him as a whole should be ashamed of their life, but thank the lord that they were born with such a perfect meticulous existance, filled with not one mistake or regret.

I have to say that I agree with you here. If you do something so stupid, you will have to pay for it. There is no need to babysit this guy in jail. Good job on taking this one out of the gene pool.

Visitor,
Police have done the drills over and over again in training. They have studied thousands of deadly altercations. One gunshot does not "stop" someone. I will give you a gun with wax bullets (used for training)and I will start fifteen feet from you with a rubber knife. 9 out of ten times I will be able to "cut" you before the placement of your shots would stop me.
This is real life and not the movies. A bullet to the body does not throw a person back against a wall. They often continue to move forward with the same momentum. We have seen men continue to run 100 feet even when bullets destroyed their hearts. Yes, they eventually died, but they can still shoot and swing a knife in the 10 seconds it takes to bleed out.

Bottom line - the guy did a crime (or more), and he got whacked. Done deal. No expensive trail. Just the cost of a few bullets. Works for me.

It's sad that there's so many people that do not have an idea of how the American justice system is to work.

This all just amazes me. Although you are entitled, most of you have no right to say anything. There is so much more to what happened on that day. The strength of his spirit and the troubles he had to overcome, only those of us who were closest to him could understand, and will always remember. On behalf of these people, have faith that good still lies within everyone of us and to forgive those who are consumed and masked by anger. In this time, it is comforting to place blame and guilt upon others, but no matter where you stand look to the ones you love and feel what really brings us together, a feeling many of us knew so well from Joseph, and appreciate it. Through the good and the bad; decisions and consequences, and everything that leads our lives, do not forget that one simple truth. So
please, If you can not see something for what it truly is, and in its entirety, let it rest..

well by saying that it shows me just how ignorant you really are. can you really believe without actually knowing? I knew him and i helped him, it was beyond all of us. i just can't believe anyone could say something like that to that extent. my deepest concerns go out to your troubled self. you don't know, so stop.

Just heard about this tragic event. I think i may have gone to school with Joey's uncle in the 70's and Joey's dad was two grades behind us...(if this is the same Bak family i am thinking of) Either way, it is very sad to hear of young man's life ending that way. My Prayers and thoughts go out to the family.

The poor woman that was assaulted won't have to relive her nightmare on the witness stand. The police officers weren't injured. The person who created the mayhem is dead.

The taxpayers won't have to pay to incarcerate this criminal for years on end.

Sounds like a good outcome to me.

FYI, the State Police have a total of 5 tasers for the entire dept of more than 1200 troopers. Those 5 tasers are only issued to the tactical unit members. Regular troopers do not carry tasers.

Don't you people have anything else better to do than talk about things you know nothing about??!! No matter what you may read in a newspaper or on the internet, you will never know what really happened that fatal day ...Stop assuming you have any idea what was going on through any one's mind and stop trashing a person you never met!
