Van der Sloot charged with murderBy the CNN Wire Staff September 1, 2011 6:27 p.m. EDT

Flores was found dead in van der Sloot's Lima hotel room in May 2010. Police say van der Sloot took money and bank cards from her wallet and fled to Chile, where he was arrested a few days later.

Earlier this month, Flores' family urged prosecutors to file charges, warning that van der Sloot could be released by December unless the case goes ahead. Under Peruvian law, if a suspect's trial doesn't begin within 18 months of his arrest, he is set free.

Investigators delivered their case file to prosecutors in June for a decision on charges.

No date has been set for trial. But the Lima-based court said Thursday, in a news release, that a hearing on the case has been scheduled for the morning of September 12.

At the hearing, prosecutors will present the charges and van der Sloot's lawyers will be given the chance to respond.

The defendant has received a notice to appear for the proceeding, to which journalists and TV cameras will be allowed access, the court said.

( Anyone know if Baez is taking this case?)

Tell me Ron, what does your post have to do with Van Sloot? He murdered two women. He was not a pedophile nor was he at Disney.

Van der Sloot sues Chile over his extradition to Peru for murder trial

----------

http://www.cnn.com/2011/11/30/world/...html...

Van der Sloot, 24, faces a trial on murder and robbery charges that is set to begin January 6 in Peru.

He is accused of killing 21-year-old Stephany Flores in his Lima hotel room last year. Police say he took money and bank cards from her wallet and fled to Chile, where he was arrested a few days later.

The 13-page lawsuit says an international arrest warrant had not been filed against van der Sloot, but he was arrested by Chilean authorities anyway.

But documents from Peru's Ministry of Interior indicate that the Peruvian police had requested his arrest; Interpol authorities in Chile and Peru were contacted, as was Chile's Ministry of Interior.

The lawsuit further alleges that van der Sloot was not given enough time to appeal his expulsion from Chile, and that that failure was a violation of his basic human rights.

But correspondence between Chile's Ministry of Interior and Peru's Ministry of Interior indicates that officials from both ministries considered that van der Sloot's expulsion was legal under the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) treaty, which allows for international cooperation in matters of criminal activity. The documents were obtained by In Session on TruTV, which is a sister network to CNN.

The resolution to expel van der Sloot from Chile, which was approved by the Chilean government, cites a police report as having been filed on May 13, 2010. Van der Sloot's lawyer points out that his client did not even enter Chile until May 31. The lawsuit refers to the apparent typo as evidence that Chilean and Peruvian officials were violating the Dutch man's rights.

The lawsuit adds that Chilean police did not give van der Sloot the opportunity to call or use a computer to contact relatives, did not give him legal representation and did not give him a translator -- all putative violations of his rights.

Interpol documents obtained by In Session indicate that van der Sloot voluntarily gave a statement in English to Chilean police in which he said that he and Flores had been attacked in Lima and that he fled fearing for his life.

Van der Sloot was once the prime suspect in the disappearance of Holloway, the Alabama teenager who vanished in May 2005 while on a graduation trip to the Caribbean island of Aruba. He was arrested twice but never charged in connection with Holloway's disappearance, which remains unsolved.

He also faces extradition charges to the United States. In June 2010, a federal grand jury in Alabama indicted van der Sloot on charges of wire fraud and extortion after allegations surfaced that he tried to extort $250,000 from Holloway's mother. He was given $25,000, and authorities believe he used that money to travel to Peru and participate in a poker tournament, where he met Flores.

Snip

(CNN)-- Joran van der Sloot goes on trial Friday in Peru, ready to admit to killing a 21-year-old woman while planning to fight more stringent charges that could land him more time in prison, his lawyer said.

About six and a half years ago, the Dutch national was considered the prime suspect in the case of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway, who vanished while on a graduation trip to the Caribbean island of Aruba. He was arrested twice but never charged in connection with Holloway's disappearance, which is still unsolved.

Yet van der Sloot's trial in another high-profile case, which his lawyer said has a tenuous connection with the Holloway story, is set to go forward Friday.

Van der Sloot postpones plea

----------

http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/06/world/...html...

snip:

Joran van der Sloot on Friday asked for more time to "reflect" on what plea he will make during his murder trial.

Earlier in the day, his attorney said van der Sloot was expected to plead guilty to all charges, but when it came time to tell the court, he asked instead for more time.

When asked for a plea by the magistrates, van der Sloot said he wanted to give a "sincere confession" -- a type of guilty plea that can qualify him for a reduced sentence -- but did not agree with all of the charges against him. When the judge asked for clarification, he said he needed more time to decide his plea.

The trial is postponed until Wednesday, when van der Sloot is expected to finally give his plea. He is charged with "qualified murder" and simple robbery in the killing of 21-year-old Stephany Flores.....

Holloway Suspect Joran van der Sloot Gets 28 Years for Murder in Peru

----------

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2012/01...est=la...

DEVELOPING: Joran van der Sloot has been sentenced to 28 years in prison after pleading guilty to the 2010 murder of a 21-year-old Peruvian woman he had met at a casino in Lima.

Van der Sloot was also fined roughly $74,000 by a three-judge panel in Lima for the murder that took place exactly five years to the day after the disappearance of American teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba.

Van der sloot -- who appeared in court wearing a green T-shirt while sweating profusely as he appeared to frequently wipe tears from his eyes -- said he was "truly sorry" for the killing of Stephany Flores. He said he had "wanted from the first moment to confess sincerely" to the killing. His lawyer told the court that van der Sloot killed Flores as a result of "extreme psychological trauma" he had suffered from the fallout over the Holloway case.

The 24-year-old Dutchman frequently hung his head as the lengthy charges were read in court. He drank several glasses of water prior to sentencing and appeared to be listening intently to the charges being read by a judge.

Van der Sloot remains the main suspect in that case and Holloway's parents want him extradited to the United States to be tried on related charges.

Natalee Holloway disappeared on May 30, 2005, during a high school graduation trip to the Dutch Caribbean island where van der Sloot grew up. Her body was never found and repeated searches turned up nothing as intense media coverage brought the case worldwide attention.

Van der Sloot faces a possible 30 years in prison in the killing, though the guilty plea was aimed at winning a lighter sentence. The defense had claimed the killing was manslaughter, which carries a minimum sentence of five years.

In a confession, he had said he killed her in a fit of rage after she discovered on his laptop that he'd been linked to the Holloway disappearance.

But prosecutors said he killed her to rob her after learning she had won money at the casino where they met.

Deputy Fired For Lying About Sex, Chats With Missing Girl's Mom

Folks how many cops in Orlando Fl. were screwing Casey Anthony ? How many cops might know about Caylee death ?? You would have to be an idiot to trust a cop in Orange Co. Fl. Folks I don't know one cop WHO IS NOT A LIAR AND MANY ARE CRIMINALS . Read below :
ORLANDO, Fla.-- An Orange County sheriff's deputy was terminated for lying about a sexual relationship with the mother of a missing girl in the latest twist in a case continuing to grab the nation's attention.
Deputies recently discovered that Deputy Tony Rusciano, 24, was linked to Casey Anthony not long before her daughter was reported missing, Local 6 reported.
When Rusciano was questioned about knowing Casey Anthony, he initially told them that he met her at a party and barely knew her, Local 6's Jessica D'Onofrio said.
Rusciano was terminated on Friday after detectives looked into the relationship. He was fired for lying about it, police said.
Detectives did a forensic search of Anthony's computer and typed some keywords -- which led them to pages of chats between Rusciano and Anthony.
The pair did talk about Anthony's daughter, Caylee, during the chats, D'Onofrio reported.
None of the chats were apparently meaningful in terms of helping detectives find the missing 3-year-old.
Rusciano and Anthony had a sexual relationship, D'Onofrio reported

Peru reportedly evaluating US request to extradite Van der Sloot
----------
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2012/04...est=la...
LIMA, Peru A lawyer for Joran van der Sloot says Peru is evaluating a request by the United States to extradite the jailed Dutchman, who is the main suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba.
Van der Sloot is serving a 28-year sentence in Peru for killing a woman he met in a Lima casino.
The 24-year-old also faces extortion charges in Alabama for allegedly receiving $25,000 from Holloway's mother to tell her where to find the remains of her daughter, who was 18 when she disappeared while on vacation.
Attorney Maximo Altez said Monday the U.S. extradition request "is in the process of being evaluated" by Peruvian authorities.
The lawyer says his client fears extradition because U.S. prisons have a reputation for being "very hard" on inmates.

According to La Republica newspaper, he said that his anger exploded and he broke Stephany Flores' neck after she grabbed his laptop without his permission, and found out that he was involved in the disappearance of an American woman.
The paper quoted Van der Sloot as saying, "I did not want to do it. The girl intruded into my private life."

OMG.BS..there's more to it than the way he is saying...more like there was him bragging about himself and he showed her the web site all on his own....then killed her!
Too bad Arias didn't date Joran or Zimmerman didn't go that way. Problem solved.

I remember seeing an update on Natalee Holloway's mother but nothing on Van Der Sloot. Last I remember hearing, he was allowed to marry and had at least one child, maybe more by now. Does anyone keep up with Joran? His jail cell wasn't too comfy, but he basically does what he wants.
