Wow. So they're going to ban ALL groups just to keep the gays from having a group? Wow.

Florida has a very active and well funded Christian conservative junta . As active in school matters as they are in politics. I do not doubt that they would attempt to shut down a whole school district if it has a scent of equality.

Lake County = LOL. Jose I think you overestimate the "junta." Not everyone outside of Miami-Dade is a thumper. Dixie, Bradford and Lake counties are notorious for this kind of crap, and they get beaten up in Federal court on a regular basis. Then again, you've got Rhonda Storms in Brandon, just a short drive from downtown Tampa. Desperation is right. They sense that they're losing the culture war.

"Not everyone outside of Miami-Dade is a thumper" By thumper do you mean corrupt ,self serving crooks as politicians and zero police standards, all of it due to ethnic voting, separatist ,Miami Cuban ,banana republic ,incapable of gvmt morons? If so than I agree , lol.

I thought that Florida had regressed politically and sadly no turning back with the state elections of Rick Scott and Marco Rubio but I was pleasantly surprised with the last election.

Imprtnrd wrote: Is it time to call in the ACLU? No. The federal Equal Access Act requires that all groups be allowed to meet on school grounds if even one group is allowed to. The school CAN bar ANY group from meeting on school grounds to prevent a GSA from meeting there. I think doing so is lousy and immoral, but they can legally do it, and teh ACLU cannot do anything about it.

Well that IS true, sadly, but the tide seems to be shifting. Did you see what happened to that shitbird Dorworth? They draw a district just to get that poltroon elected, and he lost anyway. Scott will not get re-elected. Unfortunately Rubio is coated with teflon, apparently. I keep hoping someone digs up something good on him.

Legally, under the 1984 Equal Access Act, if they really, really don't want that wicked GSA, the only thing they CAN do is genocide against every other extra-curricular group in the school. It's the inevitable consequence of Christian's getting what they had prayed for, religious groups in schools protected by federal law. The only way to stop them is by killing off all the other extra-circulars, but the law isn't specific to just religious groups and here we are today.

Well if it bans religious groups as well, then it might be worth it.....

College Admissions Officer: "So, Suzie, your grades are fine but you didn't fill in the extracurricular portion. I'm sure you read in our admissions package that we give weight to non-academic activities in evaluating candidates for admission to our College. What's up with that?" Suzie: "My school didn't allow extracurricular activities. They banned them to prevent LGBT kids from forming a gay-straight alliance."
