Full story: Orlando Sentinel

Once the Magic clear their heads of the hellacious hangover that comes with getting bounced from the NBA Finals, the common thought is that their No.

There's no chance to get back anyway with Shaq coming to the East and we want a young team built around Howard for a new building in 2010 and beyond.

Bianchi, you come up with some strange sh*t!! First off, Alston PUBLICLY stated that he wants to stay and back up Jameer. Anthony Johnson, after the shoddy treatment he received in the Finals, right now is disgruntled. He has every right to be. Only you wouldn't see what a great combo Jameer and Skip would make. Skip could be another "X" factor like Pietrus. The reason people in the arena and on the boards are upset about Jameer being inserted into the Finals is because it was painfully obvious he was not ready. Hesitent and putting up bricks. Fans still show Jameer love, but even HE knows deep down that he wasn't ready to come back now. NO DOUBT it costs us game 1. Maybe even the series

All you have to do is look at who DIDN'T play in the Finals to understand which PG will NOT be here next season. Nelson was pretty much ineffective, yet SVG chose to play him over Anthony Johnson, who had been playing well during the post-season. That pretty much says it all.

Well I hate to be the naysayer, but honestly Jameer Nelson had one - that's one good year and he may not have another.
He is a 5'10" point guard. Let me say that again. He is a 5'10" point guard. In the NBA that is a liability, you can deceive some players some of the time, but after a while they learn your moves and you become a liability - defensively and offensively.
Nelson's patented move is the jump-in-the-air-and-then-figur e-out-what-I'm-going-to-do-wit h-the-ball move.
He is significantly slower than Alston and noticeably bogged down the offense in the Finals (granted he was not back to playing condition).
But I think leaving the PG spot solely in Nelson's hands is asking for trouble.
Having Nelson AND Alston could provide a pretty potent 1-2 punch.
Nelson has improved every year he's been in the league so no worries about him being a "one hit wonder". Nelson can shoot, Nelson is great at penetrating and kicking out, he can finish at the rim unlike another PG on the roster, and he has a killer 3pt percentage. Earlier in the year before the injury he was our closer. He was the guy that could create his own shot and he wasn't afraid to take it. Is he a liability defensively? In certain situations yes, but the positives far outweigh the negatives here.

Nelson is the all star point guard that got hurt, so Rafer was brought in as a temp. Next season Nelson will be back to full strength so he is the starter...what's the confusion. Rafer should be the backup...if he doesn't like that, ship his butt out. For those who blame Van Gundy for playing Nelson, just remember the ONLY reason that Orlando beat LA during the regular season is because of Nelson.

No. Don't look at is like football. It is basketball. A team sport the columnist has probably never played, so no need to listen to him. If Altson is moved for cap reasons, then ok. We lost Ariza that way. Where is the "we should have kept Ariza" headliner.

Alston is a top tier PG back up in the NBA. We do need more perimeter help. It's not like Jameer has a career of performing. He's good, but Jameer, JJ, Courtney and Johnson don't exactly scare anyone.

I can't believe the people on this blog and their comments. How quickly you people turned on Nelson, if I was Jameer I'd ask for a trade also based on the fickle fans we have here in Orlando. Look, Alston did well as he filled in when Jameer went down very well, but that was what it was, a "fill in". Alston played well for the most part but is too turnover prone, I watched him throw up brick after brick and throw tons of balls away on 3 on 1s. Let me totally honest here: Howard is one dimensional, good but has a long way to go: He blocks, he rebounds and he dunks, nothing more. Turk handles the ball, plays D and offers many things, Rashard is soft on D, doesn't go inside where the playing is tough and just shots jumpers, and the guard play is suspect at best. Gortat is a must sign, so is Turk, without those two we have no chance next year or any year. Howard will get his ring down the road but it won't be with Orlando. Fans and their stupid comments helped run other players out, we'll do it again based on these comments I read.

What did you guys think of JJ Redick's play during the postseason? I thought he made a huge improvement on both offense and defense, especially when he was getting consistent minutes, but I was just wondering what everybody else thought?

This Gaytard buffon knows nothing of basketball. Note that the only way he can express his point is by throwing in a football analogy.

Because he doesn't understand basketball, and can't talk about it unless he puts it in 'foozball' terms.

The Slantinel has let this little monkey try to report on basketball since the Gator National Championships, when he declared that Florida was now the Empire Of College Basketball, and Dumavan was the greatest coach ever to grease his hair. Oops, two quick NIT outs, he swallowed his pompom, and the Slant is trying him with the bigs.

Give it up guys. He just doesn't get it.

You guys saying to dump Nelson are complete morons. Before Nelson's injury the Magic were 36-10 (.782). Without Nelson they were 23-13 (.638). Nelson was a complete point guard this year before his injury. His turnovers were down. His assists were up. He was shooting the ball better than ever before. He finally became a true NBA PG while still being able to put the ball in the basket. That's why he was all-star. Alston is a solid PG, but he's entirely too inconsistent. He made just one appearance in the Finals. The rest of the time, he played poorly. While I do agree that Nelson should NOT have come back for the Finals, it is ludicrous to say that Alston is a better PG than Nelson. If Nelson returns to the kind of player he was before his injury, the Magic will be an even better team than they were this year.

Alston is a horrible PG. That is why the Rockets sent him packing. He has no shot, makes horrible decisions and would not start on any team. Everytime he would shoot I would cringe. He is not a starter and should be sent somewhere else.

I think all of the posters here saying that Jameer needs to go, are fans of other teams wanting to sign him, or just fair-weather bandwagon jumpers when the Magic made it to the finals. If they can work together, having Jameer & Rafer in the backcourt would be a lethal 1-2 punch.

Turk & Gortat will command a hefty salary & the Magic will not be able to resign them. That will prompt the move of Rashard to the sf spot, and the addition of our most dubious draft pick finally making the roster. That's right; Fran Vasquez will take Gortat's place as backup to D12.

It's going to be tough but the Magic have all the right pieces to make another championship run, if not many more...

i'd rather have him on the team. if fences can be mended and stan can learn to fully trust all of his players he can work. all these guys are looking for is first of all honesty and secondly sound strategy. stan is a very good coach but like everyone else on this team he needs to evaluate himself over the summer and make some improvements

I disagree completely. Alston knows his role, and has already sated so. Don't judge their cohesiveness based on the Finals because too many other factors were involved.

I feel having Alston as a backup would be a major boost for our bench. As for Johnson, I don't feel he is limited to just the point and could be placed at one of the other guard positions as well.

Turk is a great player. The problem with him though is consistency. There are pros and cons either way for keeping him or not. However, he has been our only crunch time player, and that counts for a lot, but I don't think keeping him is an absolute must.

"What did you guys think of JJ Redick's play during the postseason?"

What postseason were you watching? The one I watched, Redick went 0 for 7 from the three. He is mediocre at best, and extremely overrated.

I've never seen fans and a city so afraid of offending stupid players for fear that they may defect. Those idiots aren't going anywhere, except to which ever team pays them the most money. It's not about team, city or fan loyalty for these selfish people. It's about the almighty dollar. So, criticize and comment all you want, they're not reading it anyway. Don't confuse the topic. This isn't about getting rid of Nelson! This article is strictly about Bianchi being a hack of a writer. That's it! We all know about the chemistry issues during the finals and that's all on Stan. Did it cost us the Finals? We'll never know. What we do know is that Bianchi should be covering hot dog eating contests. It's sad that some dead beat writer is the voice of a city that is extremely proud of out team and what they accomplished. A hack is a hack.

Make Jameer the SG and let Ralfer continue to run the point. Move Lee to the bench.

Let Hedo walk because he is going to be too expensive and bring in a power forward who can score and defend the post. Move Lewis to SF.

This team needs another way to score when the 3's aren't dropping
