I DO TOO!!!
I like kitchen stuff from the 40's and especially the 50's.
I think one of the ugliest eras was the 80's~~the starkness of
it just always seemed cold to me.
Although, the 70's had some butt ugly stuff to, especially the
"earth" colors.
Oh I agree the 80's was awful ugly.
To me it looks cheap for some reason.

I also like little phone nitch in the halls of the older homes...
I would so keep that & use it.

The Michigan house was redone again? LOL Are your Parents in law going to give it to you some day? You have the best stories Missy.
The Michigan house has been redone several times. I have seen the kitchen in 3 different rooms in the house.

We paid for the house, a fraction of what it's worth but it wasn't given to us. My father inlaw does stay there sometimes, but not always maybe a month out of the year. But he is welcome to stay there for the rest of his life. Usually once a year there is a big family reunion there because it is the family farm. Been in the family for over 200 years. Now the house isn't 200 years old only around 100 before that there was a log cabin on the property that burned to the ground then the big house was built. So glad you like to harass me over my stories.

Some houses need updating but the really old ones
need restoration.
There's a salvage place near us, huge building full
of old stuff such as claw foot bathtubs, chandeliers, barn siding, ornate mantels, you name it.
I bet that salvage place is awsome! I really get into antiques and primitive furniture pieces. I have never liked the claw foot tubs, they have always been creepy to me. We have one in the house in Michigan but it will probably get removed when we move there. I would love to find a old oak mantel for a good price. I have found a few but they had prices that would make your eyes bleed.

Why don't you tell the posters here about you're extra house in Michigan or any house you have anywhere except your house on Topix?

Harass you? To the contrary, I said what I thought! I didn't know you paid for the house twice, as a log cabin and then a house? Never realized you were that old.

Great story thow Missy, really good one.

I wonder if Shuaw has starting partying already.

My boy's left over an hour ago for the game.

Remember the baby shower I went to last Sunday? Well it's a good thing they had the shower when they did. The Baby was born Thursday. Almost 2 months early but she's 3 lb 11 oz and is doing well.

I thought of you last week. My older son and I went to dinner and had a couple drinks at the bar. It was one of those bars that had like 100 different flavors of beer. Did you ever had Sly Fox beer? OMG it's gross. I had a Christmas beer and that was pretty gross too. My son had a blueberry beer. It was gross but the best out of all the ones we tried.
I decided budlight( or diet pepsi) is more up my alley.

If you ever went to the salvage place we would have to send in a
search team to find you at closing time.
I'm with you on the claw foot bathtubs, reminds me of something
out of the movie, The Shining.
Something I remember seeing there was a child size coffin, with
a viewing window.

Omg! I would freak out seeing the coffin. Yea, the claw foot tubs are just creepy..people pay big bucks for them when they could have a nice tub and shower unit.

I have never heard of sly fox. A lot of the flavored beers are nasty. They have a chocalate covered cherry beer that would make you vomit. I havnt had any beer in over a year. I use to love some of the specialty ones but they all taste gross to me now.

My daughter has a claw foot tub in one of her bathrooms. She's never used it. She says she doesn't know how many asses have sat in it before.

Now that I've mentioned the salvage place I'm remembering more and more of the stuff.
They must have bought out an old pharmacy or compounder~~I bought
several old bottles. One of them has, Goff's No Dope Cough Syrup,
written in the glass. Added bonus, it's mercury glass.

That's neat! My sister collects the old medicine bottles. I like the old perfume bottles. Some of them are real dainty and pretty.

When we lived in Oklahoma I went to a auction and bought a section of old post office mail boxes. We put it in the wall of the den. I think that is what sold the house when we put it on the market. Everyone that looked at the house was so fascinated with it.
