The first time I ever played golf was at Mount Plymouth Golf Course. I was 12 years old. That was in the early sixties. My Dad played the course regularly. We lived in Eustis, but drove to Mount Plymouth to play that course.
Back in those days, we walked the course and paid fifty cents for a pull cart for our golf bags for 18 holes. Great exercise.
What I'm wondering is will anything really be done to save the course? It seems that the residents living around the course want it to be saved, but want someone else to do what it takes to save it.
I certainly hope the Citizen's Council can formulate a plan to restore the course and reopen it. Of course the problem will be the cost involved and who will pay the bills.

Imagine in the land of mickey that golf courses close ? The message at the meeting was that golf courses are not making money. That is hard to belive, when you need to make tee times a week in advance at some courses. It is the owners of the courses that are the problem. Mt Plymouth needs to be sold to an entity that has experience in operating a golf course. The current owners have had years to transform the course into anything they desrired. Under the current owners, we now have a parcel of land that may or may not be suitable for goat farming.

When I moved here almost 2 years ago, the golf course was one of the main attractions. All of us near the course will suffer a decline in property values if the course remains closed or turns into some sort of development. Golf courses can be profitable if the owner knows his market and caters to it. We're not Islesworth here but the course needs to be respectable. Take a look at Winter Pines in Winter Park. The place is a gold mine for the owners who charge as little as $15 a round during the summer and never have more than 5 minutes between foursomes. Our place was originally called St Andrew's Golf Club and modeled after the Old Course. Why not recreate the old links course and target the casual and moderate income golfer? Volume genereated by low prices will bring back Mt. Plmouth Golf Club.

Just ran across this page...Saw this forum.
What ever happened with the Golf Course. I have always lived in Lake County. Grew up playing around on Mt. Plymouth. What better of a Superintedents Challenge than to Get that place in shape/ or better than it has been in years?

The course is still closed. Property values have fallen 50% in the Fairways sub-division.
I was wondering if someone might want to open a dirt bike track there. Great location for it!!!!!!!
