It's a madhouse outside the gun shops, too

Full story: Hampton Roads Daily Press

A black man gets elected president and half the country dives for the panic room, buying up guns and squirreling away supplies like fatalists awaiting the End of Days.

Tamara for your info, although Barack is bi-racial, he is considered black because of his skin tone. Consider, a few years back he would have had to eat in Negroes only establishments. Very many black people today are of mixed descent due to the co-mingling(to put it nicely) of slave owners and slaves. Remember Tom Jefferson? Are his black descendants considered white and afforded the privileges and accolades customarily associated with Presidential descendants. Ennoblement etc.?

I could care less what color the President is, but I do care about his beliefs, friends and political leanings. It is my belief that not only is he coming after our guns, but he will want your pen too (after he takes the guns). Don't forget the TV station the Obama campaign cut off because they didn't like the questions they were asking.

Your implication that I might buy a gun because I am a racist is offensive, in fact I have been personally offended by this entire election cycle. I have been called a racist because I didn't support Obama and now because I want a gun.

Law-abiding citizens don't use guns to fight, Mr. Bruce Lee. They use them to defend themselves from armed criminals. No one here is afraid of anyone black, but they are afraid of any dictator that draws his ideas from Karl marx. If you hadn't heard Obama's transition team has already declared that on inauguration day he will be ready to RULE (instead of serve). How do your bruce lee moves work on bullets?

Get a clue ... and use that hunk of charcoal over your neck for something besides a crack receptacle.
They are not afraid of the black man ... they are leary of the policies and the effects those policies he will enact are going to have. They are rightly concerned with loss of liberty.

Should the women fight like men too ? Should the short men fight like men when up against the larger men ? Or should we all, short men and all women, grow some nads to avoid becoming a victim ? Do the nads stop approaching bullets ?

You are guilty of stereotyping the same as the folks you accuse of being so stereotypical.

You're a con-artist trying to con us into accepting Barack Kenya Obama because we're a bunch of nadless rednecks. There must not be enough substance to your new king.

Assault rifles are semi automatic guns and only appear scary. They are similar to semi automatic rifles used to hunt. Opposition to the ban on assault rifles is justified so gun rights are not eroded.
I bought one before the election knowing the value will rise. Do not be naive.

Don't bring martial arts to a gunfight. Don't you watch movies silly girl impresser? Obama being the first bi-racial (we're not talking "one drop" we're talking baby's momma) president really has nothing to do with it. We can just address the white part,if you are the racist. Obviously we cannot judge by what politicians say or promise (although they should be held legally liable) so we can only judge them by past actions and associations. If you lie with dogs - you get fleas. Obama referred to "gun-clinging" individuals, The group he has elected to alienate. Concealed weapons permits are statistically proven crime deterrents. Thugs with guns (it's already proven criminals don't follow the laws)should worry if their next potential victim is armed. It should provide some measure of comfort to know that the next time a thug decides to use your loved-one as a victim, A citizen with a legal concealed weapon (they are required to have weapons training) may step forward to assist (instead of running away and calling 9-1-1)-- or they may not...

This person is considering purchasing another gun and cases of ammo because of the well documented declared intentions of the president-elect, his supporters, Soros, Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy, Shummer, Clinto, etc etc to disarm law-abiding Americans to solve a social issue brought about by their liberal social agendas that have impacted on schools, work, etc. Banning gun sales, banning gun sales between individuals, banning guns everywhere, Aussie & British gun control models, 500% tax on anything related to guns. So it makes sense that there is a 'run' on gun and ammo purchases. Their declared intentions are driving this market surge. Simple as that.

President Elect Obama has a history of talking out both sides of his mouth when it comes to the 2nd Ammendment rights of citizens.

Tamara, you are wrong in saying PE Obama is a strong 2nd Ammendment supporter. He is on the record as saying he wants a ban on handguns. And he uses the gun ban buzz words "Common Sense" in his speaches.

You also throw in the four words "a well regulated militia" that the anti gun groups love to throw around. The courts, using "common sense", have ruled time and again that the right to keep and bear arms is not predicated on being a member of a "well regulated militia". And if this was taken to the extreme then any man of "militia age" has the right to keep and bear militia-military firearms. This would definately include select fire (full automatic capable) "assault rifles" since this is the type of rifle our military personnel are issued.

It is not the color of our President Elect's skin but the socialist values he and the majority of the members of Congress have. And they eant to pack the Supreme Court with their Socialist friends. This is why people are buying firearms and ammunition in near record numbers. They know it will be impossible for law enforcement to confiscate firearms people already own.

Now I sincerely hope and pray that we are wrong about PE Obama's rule (whopsie, I mean tenure in office) and that he will govern the 47% as fairly as he has promissed.

I am not rushing out to get more firearms. I have more than enough to protect my family from criminals and persue my competetion marksmanship hobbies.

Tamara,
Darling, dear gal....you should watch Topix a bit more closely. HG Robinson is a race baiting, hate mongering Blog Troll, surely you could picked someone better to quote. Someone with more common sense and a bit more level headed. That's one problem with the Blog-o-sphere, people get to hide behind keyboards and pretend to be the biggest racist or bad @$$ known to man but when the rubber meets the road and they're FORCED to act or react and end up pi$$ing on themselves in the corner of circular room. All bark and no bite. The chicken little, sky is falling battle cry is wearing thin. I hardly think that all of the banter on Topix is worthy of taking seriously.

I find it completely shameful that the media and in particular Ms Dietrich continues to throw fuel on the race debate. Let it go! and maybe just maybe we wouldn't have race issues which in my opinion are predominately due to a small minority of radicals on both sides of the debate and irresponsible media writings such as this article.

Thanks there Tamara for continuing to propagate the mistakes of the DISTANT past. You should be ashamed of your mind-numbing inability to write positive articles.

Stating that you support the 2nd Ammendment does not mean it is so. Obama's record paints a different picture. Personally, I am stocking up on ammunition and look to purchase a specific handgun now to try and avoid possible government-imposed limitations or taxes as well as higher prices because of the increased demand. Obama's election has not changed my reasons for stocking up, only sped up the process.

And when something like Katrina overtaxes or drives out the police, don't come knocking on my door looking for protection from the looters and other thugs. I'm not letting you in.

Self preservation is the first law of nature. You can ignore it all you want. It has nothing to do with nads or fighting like men. It has everything to do with awareness of what's happening around oneself.

This one is old but it's pertinent. When seconds count, police are only minutes away. Like the first amendment, the second one guarantees us the RIGHT that we already have. Accept it. I'm not bothering you.

Interestingly enough, a Newport News police officer quoted that to me last summer when we were talking amicably about firearms and concealed carry.

Rest easy my friends... Our founding fathers were wise enough to build in "checks and balances" to our political system. Certainly, things may change for a while, but nothing lasts forever. If our gun rights are impacted and produce negative results, "the people" will be heard. Remember prohibition? And yes... it IS the same type of situation. The constitution is there to protect freedoms... not limit them.

Historically if a person had even one drop of black blood he/she was considered to be black. That was the legal definition during slavery and was justification for whites to enslave their own children.(Like Jefferson) It would be nice to move beyond that definition and use biracial or mixed race more often. But it would be nicer to move beyond defining people by their race at all.
