So, in other words, the AFL-CIO is kicking themselves in the butt for believing Obama and knocking themselves out to get the darn thing passed.<quoted text>
First of all, the SEIU which paid millions to support Obama is still very supportive of the Affordable Care Act. They are even pitching in for "outreach and enrollment efforts across the country."
Now, the AFL-CIO is another matter and it has to do with their non-profit multiemployer health plans and their belief that "denying eligibility for health benefits to immigrants on the path to citizenship is not only cruel, but also short-sighted given the important connections between coverage expansion and controlling the growth of health costs."
They also feel that "non-profit multiemployer plans should have access to the ACA’s premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions on behalf of working families, just as for-profit insurance companies will" even though these plans already receive tax breaks.
They believe that "the employer responsibility rules should be fixed by applying a full employer penalty for failing to provide affordable comprehensive coverage to workers who average 20 or more hours per week and adding an employer penalty on a pro rata basis for employees who work fewer than 20 hours per week."
They further believe that "employers that attempt to shirk their responsibility in its entirety by dumping low-income workers into Medicaid should be penalized."
Still think you are on the same page as the AFL-CIO? I seriously doubt it.
The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW)— a 1.3 million-member labor group that twice endorsed Obama for president — is very worried about how the reform law will affect its members’ healthcare plans.
Last month, the president of the United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers released a statement calling “for repeal or complete reform of the Affordable Care Act.”
UNITE HERE, a prominent hotel workers’ union, and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters are also pushing for changes.
Looks like these Obama's unions are also slapping their foreheads saying, "Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!"
