Syria's President Bashar Assad has claimed that his opponents have "used up all their tools" and failed to overthrow his regime.

In an interview with the state-run Al-Thawra newspaper published on Thursday, Assad rejected to name what has been happening in Syria since more than two years a revolution.

Instead, he insisted it is a conspiracy by Western and some Arab states to destabilise his country.

"The countries that conspire against Syria have used up all their tools and they have nothing left except direct (military) intervention," Assad said in the interview, adding that such an intervention would not happen.

Assad also praised this week's massive protests by Egyptians against their Islamists leader and said the overthrow of President Mohammed Morsi meant the end of "political Islam."

He said that his opponents failed because they tried to bring religion onto the battlefield.

"Whoever brings religion to use for political or factional interests will fall anywhere in the world," Assad said in the interview, again citing Morsi's overthrow by the military in Egypt.

He has also shrugged off calls to step down, saying he will serve the rest of his term and could consider running for another one in next year's presidential elections.

International reactions to Morsi's removal

World leaders weigh in after Egypt's army commander announces that president had been removed

Saudi King Abdullah sent a message of congratulations to Adly Mansour ahead of his appointment as interim president.

"In the name of the people of Saudi Arabia and on my behalf, we congratulate your leadership of Egypt in this critical period of its history. We pray for God to help you bear the responsibility laid upon you to achieve the ambitions of our brotherly people of Egypt," the message said.

Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday praised Egypt's protests against their leader and said his overthrow by the military means the end of "political Islam".

Assad, who is seeking to crush a revolt against his own rule, said Egyptians have discovered the "lies" of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The UAE welcomed the change in Egypt, according to state news agency WAM, and praised the Egyptian armed forces.

"His Highness Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahayan, the foreign minister of the UAE, expressed his full confidence that the great people of Egypt are able to cross these difficult moments that Egypt is going through," WAM said in a statement.

The UK urged for calm in Egypt, but stopped short of calling the military intervention a coup.

"The situation is clearly dangerous and we call on all sides to show restraint and avoid violence," said Foreign Secretary William Hague. "The United Kingdom does not support military intervention as a way to resolve disputes in a democratic system."

The US State Department expressed concern over the military intervention.

The US ordered the mandatory evacuation of its embassy in Cairo, just hours after the army deposed Morsi. A later travel advisory confirmed that "the Department of State ordered the departure of non-emergency US government personnel and family members from Egypt due to the ongoing political and social unrest."

US President Barack Obama released a statement saying he was deeply concerned by the decision by Egyptian military to depose Morsi, and called for a swift return to civilian government.

Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said the military intervention was "a major setback for democracy in Egypt" and called for "dialogue and political compromise".

"This is a major setback for democracy in Egypt," Westerwelle said during a visit to Athens. "It is urgent that Egypt return as quickly as possible to the constitutional order... there is a real danger that the democratic transition in Egypt will be seriously damaged

'Revolution re-launched'

Speaking shortly after Sisi's announcement, liberal opposition leader Mohamed ElBaradei said the "2011 revolution was re-launched" and that the roadmap meets the demand of the protesters.

Egypt's leading Muslim and Christian clerics also backed the army-sponsored roadmap.

Pope Tawadros, the head of the Coptic Church, said the plan offered a political vision and would ensure security for all Egyptians, about 10 percent of whom are Christian. Egypt's second largest Islamist group, the Nour party, said in a statement that it agreed to the army roadmap in order to avoid further conflict

I observed a man in a waiting room yesterday; CNN was on the TV reporting on Egypt:

"This is all Obama's fault; we have to get rid of him. Imagine Holder investigating Holder? We have to get rid of him too. We don't even know where Obama was born! I heard he's a gay porn actor! He's a disgrace. I have made a fortune since he's been President! I'm moving my money and family to Panama!"

He was just spewing all the stuff from Glen Beck etc. to a woman who was sitting there lapping it all up and agreeing with him; I thought this is an example of two total ignoramouses like shinning and aunt batty lou on here.
He was a big fatty man too, looked like Dick Morris, I almost thought it was him, the resemblance was uncanny.

Yes; but it is complicated and interesting; aren't the Saudis in support of the rebels in Syria? Yet they applaud the coup in Egypt.

shadowy, self-described "patriot" hacktivist has launched a series of cyberattacks against Ecuador and says he plans to direct a similar onslaught against any country considering granting asylum to former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden. The hacker, who calls himself the "th3J35t3r" (the Jester) and in the past has identified himself as a former soldier, has also taken aim at Julian Assange. The WikiLeaks founder has been assisting Snowden in his efforts to seek safe haven.

On Monday, the Jester launched denial-of-service attacks against Ecuador, which is considering an asylum request from Snowden. He targeted the primary email server for the second biggest Ecuadorean stock exchange and the country's official tourism website.

The Jester, who has one of his computers on display in the International Spy Museum, is famous for launching cyberattacks against WikiLeaks and Al Qaeda-linked web sites. According to a May story in Newsweek, he's also sought to reveal the identities of jihadists recruiting online and affiliates of the hacktivist group Anonymous. The Jester told the magazine that he views his hacking as an extension of his former military service (he claims that he was affiliated with a "rather famous" unit in Afghanistan), but he said that he has "no official relationship with law enforcement agencies." On his website he describes himself as "pro OUR Military, LEA [law enforcement agencies], & Intel Communities who do the same job no matter who is sitting in the big seat."

People are dying the streets, haven't you seen the reports by the liberals? O'bama is going to kill millions. Liberals insisted that 1 person dies every 30 minutes because they do not have insurance. So since Friday O'bama has killed 64 people according to them.

One day before America celebrates its Independence Day, freedom, liberty and justice for all in a nation which no longer appears willing to fight for those things, the people of Egypt seize control of their own destiny by ousting the Muslim Brotherhood from power, a government placed in power by Barack Hussein Obama after toppling the Mubarak regime.

O'bama was trying to keep his MO Bro Hoodies in power...Why? they are terrorists.

Despite calls from the Obama Administration over the last 48 hours, asking the Egyptian military to stay out of it, the Egyptian military took action to avoid regime violence against the protesters and ended the Muslim Brotherhoods destructive grip.
Taking a firm stand with the people of Egypt who had taken to the streets by the millions to reject the leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood, Sharia Law and Islamic government, the Egyptian Army removed President Morsi by military coup d'état.
