Congress has been punting this for decades now the court is forcing them to address it.The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold hearings next month after the court on Tuesday invalidated the Voting Rights Acts coverage formula, which determines which voting districts must gain pre-approval from the Department of Justice for voting policy and procedure changes.
IMO, good move by the court.
I find it ironic that Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga who was beaten in Selma in the 60's objects to the court's reasoning that times have changed and that the calculation that treats certain states separately and unequally needs to be revisited. He was once a civil rights activist beaten for fighting for his right to vote and now he's a congressman representing one of the black-balled states.
Nothing has changed in almost 50 years?
