I was diganosed last year at age 49, and the biopsy indicated that it was significant low-grade cancer. I opted for surgery and was glad I had my prostate removed. Although the cancer was contained, my post-op pathology report revelaed that the cancer was much more agressive than what the biopsy indicated. If I would have done the "watchful waiting" it may have been too late by the time I was told to have treatment. One year later I'm fully continent, have no trouble achieving erections and am in the best shape of my life. Granted, surgery is not for everyone, and each case is different, but my attitude was that given my age, if there was cancer in my body I wanted it removed.

After years of undergoing biopsy tests, PSA tests, etc., was diagnosed in Aug '04 with prostate cancer at the age of 66. After much research, my decision was to undergo radiation treatment (IMRT). That treatment lasted 10 weeks and had only minor side effects. Post treatment PSA ratings have been in the 0.02 -0.03 range and am confident that the cancer was caught in time.

Good for you, RGAG. My PSA has been undetectable too. Your story is why I say that each case is different. I had surgery, you had radiation; both treatments appear, so far, to have been successful.

I don't think about the cancer until it's time for my next PSA test. Unfortunately the anxiety we go through waiting for the results of our six-month or yearly PSA test is something we'll have to live with for the rest of our lives. Funny how I have so much more appreciation of the little things in life, and take nothing for granted anymore. Each day is a blessing.

JCL: Thanks.
And that's certainly true:appreciation for life, family and things/people we hold dear certainly takes on added importance after the shock of being diagnosed. Even more so as I get almost monthly news about my contemporaries' untimely deaths. Makes one more and more truly thankful for the time remaining.

Early detection is key of course. Did you undergo hormonal therapy?

The article was encouraging considering at age 65, my dad was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. Long story short, the results from his test showed a Gleason score of 5/5 and PSA of 18. Yesterday, I accompanied him to his Urologist for his first lupron shot. The lupron shot will be administered in 4 month intervals and treatment approach surrounds 25 daily radiation treatments plus two implant procedures. If I believe his Urologist and Radiation Oncologist, the oulook looks good but frankly it's scary.

Had only one hormone shot prior to the start of radiation and no implants. And do hope all goes well for your Dad. Know all too well how worrying this can be for the kids. My daughter advocated surgery but not being a fan of the knife, did a lot of investigation into other options. On balance, the Intensity Modulated Radiation Treatment (IMRT) seemed to be the best choice for me and have had no regrets.

I had my prostate removed in April, I was 49 also. PSA is "0" now. But I can not get an erection, I've used all the pills nothing works. How long should I wait before getting serious about the implants?

I have used http://goodgeneric.com for about 3 years and find their products to be reliable and speedily delivered. The Support team are very promt and helpful in solving any issues that arise, caused by my errors not the company's. I was a little sceptical initially about buying generic products rather than brand names. However, the Mens' Health products I have bought have been equally as efficatious as the brand names at a fraction of the cost.

I have ordered prescription drugs (without a prescription) online from http://edx-airstorepills.info about two years ago, and was pleased with the speed and quality of service.
I'm thinking of doing the same thing with my medication. The meds is expensive, but there is a generic version available overseas.
I love the idea of taking responsibility for my own health (or lack of health) and skipping the bureaucracy... to say nothing of having to drive to the doctor, wait in line, yet again, to get a prescription refilled.
First time I took Viagra from http://edx-airstorepills.info it took 30 to 40 mins to work. Work very well for me with no side effects. Was able to have sex more then once. My partner is also very pleased with the results.

I'm 37, my husband is 63. We tried Viagra and it works. We decided to try Cialis from RXPILL911 . COM this past weekend just to compare the two. Cialis is unbelievable, None of the headaches or side effects that he would get from the Viagra and they really mean it when they say it lasts 36 hours. It is a little expensive, but well worth every penny to see your husbands confidence restored. Ladies take it from a VERY satisfied wife you wont be leaving the house for the entire weekend so get everything you need before he takes the pill. Life is good!

Cialis from RXPILL911 . COM worked great! Took the first dose and an hour later got a firm and lasting erection. Made love to my wife like never before. Did cause delayed ejaculation, but my wife did not complain. Headache and heartburn improved after about 5 days of use. Definitely recommend.
