I would try some herbal tea, breathing exercises or maybe just sleep less before you commit yourself to a life long addiction to potent drugs like these. Sounds like this doc is doing an advertisement for the drug industry.

i was just prescribed lorazepam and citalopram. I have never taken meds like these before. I have panic dissorder and anxiety. i have trouble sleeping because i worry alot about any and erverything. they started me off at a half mg of lorazepam twice a day and 20 mg of citalopram once a day. they have just upped it to 1 mglorazepam 3 times a day ad 40 mg or citalopram once daily. I have been reading about these meds and although they seem to be helping i read its not for long term. so at some point are they going to take me off? and if so what effect will that have on me?

but some people need the pills so they can get to the appointment's for cbt
cbt will help get to the root of the problem
but can take a long time before results are seen

Nutz ... primary care should (MUST) be CBT!

If you need to get loaded prior CBT (except the first few sessions) then you have a world of problems dude.

If those Meds work for you then all power!

I wouldn't say being on meds is "getting loaded" , pop down off your high horse (pun intended), years of cbt did nothing for me but my meds make life right . each to their own & power to you to brother/sister :)

Your doctor must have felt that your anxiety was severe enough to require medication. However, medication alone is not the answer. As others have commented, CBT and other psychological treatments are important as well. You need to address the cause of the anxiety and tackle the thought patterns that are making the anxiety worse.

The above site has articles written by a UK doctor, and has lots of useful information about how to treat anxiety. Good luck. Ken

It is indeed best to take the utmost precaution when taking medications. If you do not wish to take medications there are several natural approaches in coping with stress and anxiety. You can also refer to this link http://www.paxilbirthdefectlaw.com

I agree with John.

Herbal remedies can often be a good alternative to prescribed medication as well as things like breathing techniques etc to reduce stress among other things.

Crinc anxiety helped me (google "crinc anxiety") It could help others also.

I have ordered prescription drugs (without a prescription) online from XTOP24 .COM about two years ago, and was pleased with the speed and quality of service.
I'm thinking of doing the same thing with my medication. The meds is expensive, but there is a generic version available overseas.
I love the idea of taking responsibility for my own health (or lack of health) and skipping the bureaucracy... to say nothing of having to drive to the doctor, wait in line, yet again, to get a prescription refilled.
