Just to be perfectly clear, when I stated in my previous that I am glad to see the reaction on this forum I was certainly no referring to comments such as the two previous to this one I am writing now. I speak to young people about their choices in hopes they will be more responsible. I speak to law enforcement, telling them Matt's story and thanking them for what they do each and every day, putting their lives at risk daily with as my son put is two days before the crash that took his life, "these crazy drivers on the roads". Everyones life is precious. I cringe when I see race always play an issue when someone loses their life. I never bring that up when telling Matthew's story. When trying to motivate others to take responibility. Yet, it always seem to take center stage on these blogs. I could tell you story after story about every single race. These crimes seem to know no boundary.

There are a thousand automobile accidents each day in Florida... lots of people get killed all the time. Near my home in east Orlando, two young, hispanic men were killed in separate hit and run accidents during the course of one year. I did not read anything about it in the newspapers, nor did I read one word from you bloggers.
It is amazing how precious white life is!
yeah, isn't it grand
white life trumps all <end sarcasm>
show some respect people, someone just died,(at the fault of others)and all you want to do is turn it into a race issue... grow the f up

Hold on, Jordan, we don't yet know why this *crash* occurred. However, if it was due to DUI that is NEVER an accident as even proven by the definition you quoted. When someone *chooses* to get behind the wheel of a vehicle after drinking, doing drugs or both, they have made the conscious decision to make their car a deadly weapon no different than if it were a loaded gun. They play Russian roulette with everyone on the road. And usually the innocent lose. That is never an accident. Ever. We don't know yet what caused this man to drive at a high speed into the back of the car that Terri was driving, where she stopped at a red light at the time. That seriously injured her and killed her precious toddler. But, it does not seem very likely that it will be in favor of the driver who killed her child. DUI or reckless driving, a child is dead. A mom and a family grieving. 100% preventable. That is not an accident.

That term ACCIDENT is misused on the highway. Too many people drive like idiots, they blame crashes on rain or anything they can think of in order to not accept responsibility for their own actions. THIS WAS A CRASH CAUSED BY AN IDIOT. IT WAS NO ACCIDENT. You make me sick!

Well, I'm sorry, but I still disagree. Unless he delibertly plowed into the back of the car, then it was an accident. Crash, accident, I don't really care what people want to call it. That's still my definition of any car wreck that was not done on purpose.

You can certainly disagree all you want but that doesn't change what happened. It doesn't change that there is a different between an accident and a crash. "Oh, I spilled my milk by accident". That would be actually be an accident. "I got behind the wheel while intoxicated and killed and seriously injured others but accident." Sorry, not buying it. It is NOT an accident. "I feel asleep at the wheel while I was driving which cause me to kill and seriously injure the innocent...by accident." Nope, not an accident. A word so easily thrown around though. Again, this is why FHP changed their reports to CRASH REPORTS not ACCIDENT REPORTS. You are talking out of both sides of your mouth. Saying that it was an accident and then agreeing with the family member who is not agreeing with you, Jordan, and rightfully so. Someone's selfish and irresponsible behavior changed their world and the world of those they love forever. Responsiblity -- something accepted by so few anymore.

Micheal, I am not sure if you meant to reply to my post or not but I have nothing but compassion for your family, for the family members of all that were in the Saturn, for everyone that was injured and for little Eric. I understand the loss of a child like only those who have experienced it can. I will not and will never make any excuses for the guy who did this to your family member. Ever. As I said in one of my previous posts, he will pay for what he did. Not the way he should with how our justice system is but he won't get away with it. But, you know what? At the end of the day it doesn't make anyone whole again, does it? Life as all of you know it is forever changed. I am so very, very sorry that someone's selfish and ignorant act has caused this. I helplessly watch my son lay in the hospital for a week after the drunk driver hit the car he was in. I understand the pain all too well. I am so sorry for what you all are going through.

Can we just add the word "WRECK" in here and perhaps make all of you happy with the terminology that pleases them. Crash, wreck, accident. I don't give a darn what anyone names it. It still caused pain, death, and a lot of people bickering about a very trivial word, in my opinion. Sorry I make you so sick. Get some Pepto~Bismol.

I'm sorry, but I do not see that I was talking out of both sides of my mouth. The family members reply post was to you, not me. I believe that he was saying to get off the petty discussion of word meaning. I have lost 3 1st cousins in car wrecks, crashes or accidents, none being their fault. I lost my 14 yr. old 2nd cousin in a car/bicycle "accident". It was the childs fault, and I'm sure he didn't plan to do it. One month ago, a friends 18 yr. old son was killed in a one car "accident" and I'm sure he didn't plan that. I don't care what everyone wants to call it, I still say "if it wasn't planned & delibertly intended (as my Father's suicide was) then it still was an accident." You all can call it what you like, and I'll do the same. I am sorry for everyone's losses & injured loved ones.

Nitpicking. Is really what you think it is? I go out and speak to students, to our youth, in my son's name and I try to impress upon them the consequences of their actions. One of things I mention is to NEVER call it an accident. That they are not accidents. For all of the reasons I have repeatedly stated. Nitpicking? Hardly. When you lose a child because someone made a conscious, selfish choice (often something illegal) and someone calls it an accident I guarantee you wouldn't think along the same lines. I am trying my best to get people to understand that these things are not accidents. Words have HUGE meanings. What happened to this family is not okay. It was not accidental in any way, shape or form. And when more people learn to see it that way then maybe our roads will be a bit safer. Maybe when people don't just push it off to being "accidental" then we won't lose as many lives. Maybe people will start being more responsible. And the next Matthew and the next Eric will not be senselessly killed. These people are not making mistakes. They are making choices. And they need to be held accountable. Words can carry a lot of weight.

The young man was my brother and yes he is feeling really bad about what happen. He called me tonight very upset about the accident and that he did not mean to hurt anyone that morning. No he was not drunk or on drugs! It was an accident he is going to have to learn to live with everyday he sees his own 2year old daughter and I pray he can get some help knowing it was an accident and that he did not mean for this to happen.

I Learned of this accident this evening and my heart goes out to your family! I live in Jacksonville, FL. Just know my brother is very sorry for this. What I was told he looked down to get his cell phone that was ringing and when he look back up the light was red. He tried to not hit your family by turning his wheel left and going to the other side of the road where he hit a tree. I hope that your family one day can forgive my brother because I don't know if he can live with this. I am sorry!!
