WHO KILLED KENDRICK JOHNSON? Pt. 1
August 12, 2013

Kendrick Johnson was a 17-year-old student at Lowndes County High School in Valdosta, Georgia, where he was last seen in his fourth-period class on the afternoon of Thursday, January 10, 2013. After that, he never showed up to any of his other classes.

And he wasn't on the school bus home, as he always was at the end of the day.

Worried like any parents would be, Kenneth and Jackie Johnson reported him missing to the Lowndes County Sheriff's Department. Both in their mid-forties, Kenneth is a truck driver and Jackie, a school bus driver. They spent a long night wondering if their child would come home safely.

Lowndes County High School is a complex of low lying buildings, built in a horseshoe shape around a large parking lot. The old school gym is a small building, sandwiched between two larger ones. There are surveillance cameras outside and inside the gym, where a student visited early the next morning following Kendrick's disappearance.

Wrestling mats were rolled up and standing vertically, as they usually were, in the back of the gym. Horsing around, the student noticed that one mat was different from the others. Someone's bare feet were sticking out of the top of one of the mats. Was this some sort of practical joke? But it wasn't Halloween, so what was going on?

The student quickly left and called a teacher. When adults came to the gym and unrolled the mat, inside was the body of a male African American. It was impossible to identify him by sight; his face had been beaten beyond recognition. Paramedics were summoned.

The Lowndes County Sheriff's Department arrived after, though the exact time which they showed up is unclear. Searching the body, police found a wallet in the pocket of his gym shorts. Opening it, the identification said, "Kendrick Johnson." Inexplicably, County Coroner Bill Watson was not summoned until 3:45 PM, approximately five hours and forty five minutes later.......

Gym mat death shocker: Body stuffed with newspaper
By Victor Blackwell and Devon Sayers, CNN
updated 8:47 AM EDT, Thu October 10, 2013

Valdosta, Georgia (CNN)-- The death of 17-year-old Kendrick Johnson was awful enough for his parents. Then came the doubts about investigators' conclusion that it was an accident.

But the discovery that their son's body and skull had been stuffed with newspaper before burial added a horrific new dimension to their anguish and further fueled their skepticism of the official findings.

"We have been let down again," his father, Kenneth Johnson, told CNN. "When we buried Kendrick, we thought we were burying Kendrick, not half of Kendrick."

Kendrick Johnson was found dead in a gym at Lowndes County High School in January. State medical examiners concluded that the three-sport athlete suffocated after getting stuck in a rolled-up gym mat while reaching for a sneaker.
Death was not accidental, family's autopsy finds.

His parents, Kenneth and Jacquelyn Johnson, never have bought that explanation. They won a court order to have their son's body exhumed and a second autopsy performed in June.

New evidence in Kendrick Johnson's death Dead teen's parents speak out New autopsy finds teen death not accident

During an autopsy, internal organs are removed and examined before being returned for burial. But when Dr. Bill Anderson, the private pathologist who conducted the second autopsy, opened up the teen's remains, the brain, heart, lungs, liver and other viscera were missing. Every organ from the pelvis to the skull was gone.

"I'm not sure at this point who did not return the organs to the body," Anderson said. "But I know when we got the body, the organs were not there."

Two entities had custody of Kendrick Johnson's body after his death -- the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which conducted the first autopsy in January; and the Harrington Funeral Home in Valdosta, which handled the teen's embalming and burial.
GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang told CNN that after the autopsy, "the organs were placed in Johnson's body, the body was closed, then the body was released to the funeral home." That's normal practice, Lang said.

The funeral home would not comment to CNN. But in a letter to the Johnsons' attorney, funeral home owner Antonio Harrington said his firm never received the teen's organs.

Harrington wrote that the organs "were destroyed through natural process" due to the position of Kendrick Johnson's body when he died, and "discarded by the prosector before the body was sent back to Valdosta." A prosector dissects the body for pathological examination.

"The family is filing a lawsuit to ask a judge for an inquest, which would serve as a public hearing and possibly change his death certificate from accidental to homicide. If successful, investigators would then reopen the case."

I hope this is not accurate - and why would anyone want to tip off potential murder suspect/s in advance by pubicly revealing evidence against them?

Gosh, I notice this Kendrick Johnson thread isn't exactly leaping to the attention of those who same posters who screeched Justice for Trayvon!

Might that be due to the lack of fueled sensationalism owing to the apparent absence of racial overtones and the nonexistence of insinuations that Kendrick could be classified as 'a street thug'.......take both away and what's left, the very unusual circumstances surrounding the death of an upstanding 17 year old black youth, becomes like "who cares"? Hypocritical much, eh?

Thank you for that. I'll keep an eye on the Valdosta forum as well.....I notice what appears to be a dedicated quest by some to normalize the atypical.

Seems like an far-fetched accidental death scenario, to me.

I heard Crump was getting involved.
Think that'll get some action for ya'?

I read somewhere he was barefooted, like, no socks.
Wonder if that was typical for him.

What few pictures that are floating around haven't been "certified" so we don't have much info, really.

Give us dirty laundry!!!!

I stand corrected, just watched the CNN piece.
Socks on in the picture.

Sure didn't look like any life-saving measures were attempted.
How compromised could the scene have been?
Another well-botched investigation.

It should be re-opened.
I hope it happens for this young man's family.

Where ARE Al and Jesse?
Hopefully, behind the scenes this time.

"The parents suggested that their son, who was 5-foot-10, would not have tried to reach all the way down into a mat to grab his sneakers since the mat was about 6 feet tall and there was no way his arms could reach the bottom."

If this is true, the mat was only 2 inches wider than KJ's height.....one "crime scene" photo circulating in mainstream media shows feet a good 12 or so inches inside the mat which would mean his head was clear outside the other end.

Not if the mats were standing vertical.

As I understand the events leading to the discovery of his body, a female saw barefeet(?) sticking out of the mat, sent up the alarm, mats were moved to access the tubular death chamber, and the body was removed. 911 called reporting something less than a dead body. Some other sort of medical emergency.

Not sure of exactly when and by whom the video of the scene was taken.

Point being, any photos of a body in the mat is a reenactment for use as a visual aid. We will NEVER know for sure the position of his arms, head, hair, shoes or that tootsie roll wrapper.....

Ah, so your thinking the photo of the 6' rolled up mat lying horizontal with the feet of the 5' 10" body deep inside it was staged?

All the more reason to question the investigation!

I haven't formed any opinion~~
But I try not to overload my brain with a bunch of
sensationalism from the likes of Nancy Grace, etc.
I read about it where it happened in Valdosta.
I'm anxious to hear what the GBI concludes.

You think that when a death death is reported it is the responsibility of crime scene investigators to stage a reenactment of what they believe was the death scene? And then absolutely nobody investigates what occurred at the REAL death scene. No wonder Kendrick's parents aren't satisfied with the way the investigation was handled!

I haven't watched Nancy Grace's "sensationalism" whatsoever. But I do think it's very, very telling that the "Justice for Trayvon" camp are not indignantly enraged by authorities who seem content to let the highly suspicious circumstances of Kendrick Johnson's death quietly pass by, while one, two or three MILLION of them signed a petition to compel the State to take a second look at circumstances surrounding Trayvon Martin's death.

That's leads towards proof of my earlier suspicious that indeed the only reason people cared about TM's death was because it inspired an opportunity to fuel a racial agenda! If it takes Nancy Grace's sensationalism to demonstrate that same disturbingly hypocritical point to others, good for her!

I notice today CNN's main page is highlighting of the unusual circumstances surrounding Kendrick Johnson's death, even shadowing the US government shut-down.

http://www.cnn.com

But nary squawk about it from the usually indignant twitter masses........obviously the leader has not released instructions yet. Whoever thinks online social "opinion" is not highly organized needs only to watch - CNN is doing a remarkable job if dangling the bait - so far not a nibble.

This does not have to be turned into a racial
matter.
I'm as white as the Pillsbury dough boy and I find
it appalling this happened to a 17 yr old, no
matter what color he is.

Was this a case of bullying leading to his death?

This grieving family deserves better and they
certainly need answers.
