The biggest reason I don't frequent Ruby Tuesday as often is the price. Food and service is great.

they lost our business when they raised the price of a glass of wine to the cost of a bottle! THen closed the convenient location in Fashion Square!

I agree - the price is too high. It's just regular food and wine/beer. Yet they seem to think it's worth more than people will pay.
This whole scenario is a "fallout" from globalization. There are a lot of Americans whose jobs have been "outsourced", and then have to take jobs paying less. But a lot of businesses here in the USA just don't get it yet. They think they're immune. They say "foreign waitresses can't take out jobs away; nor can foreign cooks" And on and on.
They just don't realize that the situation is changing a lot for their CUSTOMERS! And until they wake up to that, they will see their business decrease more and more, and McDonalds business get bigger and bigger. And "waitresses at McDonald's don't just get lower tips - they get NO tips.
This applies to other businesses besides restaurants too.

How will they know if the compelling value or the decorating changes are driving sales increases-decreases or if the fast service concepts are doing-not doing an adequate job satisfiying customers who are dining out?

the only reason i checked out this article is because RT's is a partner with one of my clients. the food is incredibly boring. not bad. just boring. very homogenous - but i guess our tourists from the mid-west like that as opposed to the more adventurous cosmopolitan cuisine. no matter what, it'll take more than the decor to get more people in the door.

Yeah, prices are TOO high at RT. They arent going to turn themselves into a Seasons 52 by selling "handcrafted" pomegrante tea for $6 a glass. Give me a break!
They had a nice niche, but they are loosing sight of what got them where they are.
I wont be returning after the $8 "salad" bar lost alot of the good items after. No wonder there is a "Sales Problem".

We end up at Ruby Tuesday's sometimes because Applebee's is too crowded and more noisy. I also I loved the old look--the nostalgia, the hometown pub-type atmoshpere and the fact that each one was unique. Now, it's just a boring wannabe that's trying to be a bistro. It feels awkward and contrived. If I'm not mistaken, this restaurant started out as a hamburger joint. Why the shift? Stick with what you know. I'm not going back anytime soon.

One question here.....How can they become "fine dining" when they offer their all you can eat salad bar for $2.99? For 20 years they were the "burger" joint and now they are Fine dining? It will never happen.....

Wellll, we have a Ruby Tuesdays in the West Oaks mall across from our apartment. Ten years ago I loved their super Salad Bar. Then they made it less "super" and we didn't go as often. The menu has now deteriorated (what if you don't like broccoli) to the point where it's just a place to stop for a lunch while shopping.
With their extremely limited menu I don't see them competing with any classic dining restaurant.
Whatever it was they had, they've lost it.
Restaurants in Orlando are in trouble, big trouble.
I look for a lot of corporate decisions on closings during the next year. Pricing is a big factor, people are eating fast food during the day and cooking for themselves at night.
By the Way; LATEST TRICK: They bring your bill with a slip on top listing the total due with a space for you to add the tip and write in the grand total.
Further investigation may reveal they have added in an 18.5% gratuity into the total due amount, and are presenting the bill in a manner calculated to get you to add in an additional tip.
This is being done on bills for parties of two, not just on larger parties.
CHECK YOUR RESTAURANT BILL CAREFULLY.

They only do that when you pay with a credit card and they should not put gratuity on unless it's a party of 8 or more. You as a customer can refuse the gratuity and the manager has to take it off you bill because by law they cannot force you to pay it.Maybe in Florida they are allowed to put gratuity on party of 2 but here in Michigan it has to be 8.Always ask for your bill first instead of just handing your credit card, scan the bill and look for the word:gratuity" on the bottom, it will show up and tell you how much you are leaving them (being unaware most of the time) then decide whether you want to leave your server that much.

Spend some money on more competent help and management.
I don't mind the prices and the menu choices have been fine. But our Ruby Tuesday is always dirty, the help is inattentive, and the food is cold.
Last time we were there the waitress was at the table twice... once to take the order, once to bring the food. She never returned. The salad bar was empty when we got there, and empty when we left, even though someone was working on the bar the entire time we were there. They weren't busy, so there was no excuse for poor service.
Oh yeah... and those crabcake burgers or whatever they are... you're not supposed to be able to smell them 6 tables away. Try some fresher ingredients.

I refuse to go in there ever again...My kids were out with their aunt and after the show they wanted to go to Ruby Tuesdays (next to the cinema) and she refused and I don't blame her....Food way overpriced, the fake enviroment with this high quality dining, food coming out cold, not the Ruby Tuesdays we use to know.

The last time I ate at a Ruby Tuesday's was over a year ago. It was dirty, the service was pathetic, and the atmosphere was less than a dinky diner--located in a mall in Greenville, SC. The cost was more than at an upscale restaurant. Who need that with all the restaurants around who do care about their facility?

Hungry, I don't know what RT you went into, but it couldn't have been the Lady Lake, FL location. That store is always clean, the serving staff is the best of any restaurant in the Villages area, and the food is outstanding. Everytime I go to the restaurant I asked for a certain waitress and she is wonderful. Very attentive, our drinks are never empty. As for everyone else, how can you complain about their prices? Applebees and Chili's are the same if not higher, and the food there is not as good, nor is their wait staff.

Michelle, Topix put me in Lady Lake. My comments were not about that location. BUT - the one time we did go to the Lady Lake restaurant, it was about as bad an experience as any.
