It's funny the people that complain the most are the people who own SUV's or big trucks, who either have no children or only use the back of their truck a few times a year.

Unfortunately yes, fuel prices will go up. Inflation prevails when the goverment intervenes to appease the "clammoring" day traders on wall street by lowering interest rates. By the way, our American dollar is worth less now, and will be worth less in the future. Long term investors should be OK. The people on wall street have managed to become insatiable pigs. There is no such thing as unsustainable growth. We had a pull back (no problem, the stock market doubled in 7 years), and had issues with lending regulation (which, since then there is a plan to prevent this from happening again). Greenspan got us into this mess with low interest rates. I was hopeful the new Fed chief would have a set and man up to do the right thing, and do what is necessary for us to learn lessons and get back on our feet rapidly. I was hopeful he would recognize the importance to let free markets be free markets. But no, he gave in. Now we will have unprecendented inflation, and a long and drawn out recession.

This reminds me of Bush and his "Americans will not lose at any cost" mentality in the middle east. But there is a cost, a huge cost.

What an embarrassment.

<quoted text>I have to agree with you. However people in my circle of friends are just making ends meet. It really angers me to see the Rap Star types with 18 cars in the drive way of their 9.8 million dollar homes complaining on how tough they had it.
If you don't like the celebrity types and their gluttonous ways, do what I do. Don't support them. I don't buy music, I don't go to movies or concerts and the only sports teams I support are minor league.

That way MY hard earned dollars aren't going to make someone else richer while I get poorer.

Yes, we Americans are SPOILED ROTTEN!!!! Everbody on here bitches about high gas prices, yet you all live 50+ miles from where you work, drive SUVs & gigantic pick-ups, nobody car pools, etc., etc. If you can afford ipods, cell phones, dvds, flat screen tvs, and other "essentials", then you can afford to pay $4,$5,$6 gallon gas.

If any of you had half a brain, you'd INVEST IN THE OIL COMPANY STOCK and make some money off the stupidity of humanity, instead of whining about Bush & Cheney (who, for the record, I think should be impeached & then executed for treason, though not necessarily in that order).

High gas prices are the ONLY way the Sheeple will change their self-destructive habits. You are slooooow learners, but eventually you'll get the picture, and realize the harm you are doing to the planet, and yourselves.

The last thing I want is the government setting gas prices. Those morons can't find their way out of a paper bag, and you trust them to set prices? Why stop at gas prices? Why not the regulate the price of milk, food, clothes, tvs, phones, etc? Why stop there? If the govt is going to regulate the price of goods, then shouldn't they also regulate the price of wages? Everbody doing job A gets wage B, regardless of ability, competence, effort, etc. Maybe everybody should make exactly the same wage in the world, so nobody's feeling are hurt? Oh wait, that's called COMMUNISM!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, I'm 45 y/o, retired, and live quite well on my $25,000 yr pension from 20 years of military service because I was smart enought to INVEST instead of complain. Anybody who couldn't see this situtation coming for the past 10-20 years is totally blind! How stupid are you people? Anybody could have done what I did; anybody (except the physically & severly mentally disabled) can join the military & retire after 20 years, with good pension & health care for the rest of your life. Not willing to sacrifice, then QUIT BITCHING!

off the coast os siberia in the bering sea
a whole army of south koreian welders are going 24/7 to build a whole little city, the largest oil reserves ever was found offshore, given the envirooment it would'nt surprise me that the '' powers that be'' would be doing anything possible to hasten global warming 4 dollars?? we'd be lucky at 4 in the future...

remember china has no oil of its own and its just now starting to grow what do you think will happen 20yrs down the road???
A smart pres would make a deal with china to let them Have all the iranian oil [peaceable or not] lay claim to irag for ourselves [we have the troops there already] might as well get something back for our young mens sacrifice cause they're not coming home anytime soon, get rid of whats his name in veniezuala[sorry 4 the spelling]build a pipeline cross the gulf of mexico, uncap all those wells we've been busy drilling in the artic.and seriousely invest in solar, hydrogen and wind ..corn fuel is not an option for us as it would take crops in 48 states just to make a dent and feed and food prices would soar worse than they have[most of what we eat is corn based ck 4 yourself] forget about oil people have you seen the price of milk latly?? just as bad...

I agree...if you live in florida, and you endured the hurricanes, with the outages, for days and days..you saw the look, and felt the despair, anger, saw greed..etc...brought out the worst in most...we r very spoiled here...if you r that concerned about gas prices...make a change yourself...take the lynx, ride a bike, carpool, call in sick a day or two... relocate..i dont know...but there are other alternatives...may put you out a bit, as far as time and comfort..but i feel it should be looked at as a privilege...to at least have the option...maybe instead of going out, you might go for a walk....take your wife/husband...go to your local park, take your dog...its amazing when you compromise on a few small things, what else you might have time for....and learn....off the sub. for a sec..when your power goes out...NO TV. NO NOTHING..WHATDO YOU DO...read a book, talk, spend more time outdoors..etc..there r always other alternatives....

all everyone has to do is NOT GO TO WORK NOT GO OUT SHOPPING NOT GO ANYWHERE FOR JUST ONE DAY,, Send a message to the oil companies , just ONE Day don't use your car. If everyone did that in US, Oil companies would have to lower the prices. but how would we get Everyone to go along. A challenge to say the least

Anyone wanting a real good eye-opening read should find a copy of Thom Hartmann's "The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight". Things are actually worse than what they seem.

Oil company profits = 10 cents per DOLLAR.
Ten cents a dollar doesn't sound like a lot of profit... but it's $3.60 every time I fill up my tank (I have a small tank and a fuel efficient Civic).
Considering there's about 200 million of "me" driving a car and I fill up about every 10 days... that's about $2.2 BILLION dollars of profit a month. And that's a way conservative estimate... with all the SUV's out there it's probably close to $3 BILLION a month.
Still seem like 10 cents net profit is just a little bit???

On the flip side, my wages have gone up approximately 0% this year.
Thanks, George.

Hey liberals and minimum wage earners, stop whining and get back to work. Upset you're not making money? Well, you should have paid attention in school. For the rest of us, we don't even feel the change in gas prices except when we get stuck in line behind you and have to listen to your whining all the way to the register.
Christian? Where is your compassion, your understanding, your willingness to lend a helping hand? I guess I have a different Bible than you do.
