There is an irony in the whole statement that implies that placing Jim DiGiacomo or Terry Andrews in the position would eliminate the "good ole boy" system.

Didn't you know they carry the superintendent's chariot in at each school board hearing along with four of the five school board members. Actually, upon close examination it is difficult to figure out where the superintendent ends and Andrews and DiGiacomo begin. "In bed together" never had more meaning.

We had a search for a superintendent before and wound up with a person from another state that did not do anything except talk about when he was a football coach.
Mr. Andrews and Mr DiGiacomo both have worked hard in our county and in my opinion are both qualified for the job.
As far as the "good ole boy" system- most of those people have retired.
A nation wide search is just another way to waste our money that could be better spent.

I agree with Ellen - travelled the nation-wide search before. What was viable in another state with different demographics just did not work here. Mr. Muse has lead this system through some difficult times utilizing all resources in a combined effort to improve our system. Is it perfect? Of course not, there is always room for change. Therein is the question - are we ready for change? It is not always painless; however, a leader that has experience with the many facets of the organization, but is open to change and improvement, stands a much better chance to move forward than an applicant with no history in our community. We stand in a very precarious situation economically - is it fiscally responsible to spend monies searching outside when we have several well-qualified applicants currently employed.

Well Ellen you obviously work for the district. You sound like someone's secretary. Jim has never been a good choice for superintendent as he is the same as Blaine. They are two pees in a pod and McKay will be runing the district same as he is now. Terry Andrews has a big temper and I understand he throws fits.

You missed former Collier County Chief Dan White principal at Celebration High.

I think this board can not let McKay lose control because someone will ask for a Countywide audit and get people in who will find where McKay has been doing dirty deals. Need some school Board members who will know where to look and why.

You talk about Tom McCraley and the football thing. Well McKay has a degreee in PE and Tom Greer has a degree in PE.

Chalifoux and Greer do not understand the phrase lame duck. Get the drift you are leaving the board.

Blaine was and interium superintendent when he first moved up from deputy. Why can't we have another interium!!!!!!!!! Oh I forgot McKay would get caught with his hand in the till.

Blaine has done so much damage to this district!! His mistakes are from being a whimp and letting people bully him into doing things he knew better than to do. He did things he was told to do and then lied about what happened. I have seen a lot of appointed superintendents and Blaine is the worst I have ever seen. The good ole boys here seem to have a warped since of right and wrong. I hear people say things and I thnk who taught you your morals?

David Stone, Tom Greer, John McKay and Blaine Muse need to be investigated. Blaine probably did not take anything but he helped McKay, Greer and Stone in their conspiracy. If the good ole boys do not have anything to hide why don't they call for a full investigation from the state auditors!!!!!!

I hope whoever applies for this job understand they are taking a big chance because these thugs should not be hiring anyone. These are the tactics they have employed all along. They are right and no one else should have a choice. They have gone after anyone who knew anything at the district. McKay says he doesn't have to go by the law. He has an attorney to back him. We the taxpayers pay for that attorney. He needs to be gone along with Greer and Chalifoux. Come on boys get your bags packed because you are gone in November!!!!!!!!!!

Let's get some new blood on the school board, THEN start evaluating possible replacements for Muse. This county needs a major change in direction. Remember, ultimately it is our children who are suffering with a substandard education.

You have hit the nail on the head! I hope we can change the direction our children are headed. The catholic school in St. Cloud has Blaine Muse on their committee to hire a new principal. Those parents should be up in arms.

No, I am not a teacher but in some way or another I have been in the school system since 1956. I went to school here, my children went to school here, and my grandchildren did also. I have been a member of PTA's, PTO's and SAC in at least four different schools. I also have seen a lot of people come and go and probably have forgot more than you will ever know about the system. I know the good and the bad and at least had enough respect for the good Dr.from Arizona not to mention his name.
As far as the educational system goes my son has well paying job as an engineer, my daughter has a high position in her company and is almost finished her Master's.
Any child in this county can receive a great education in any school - all they have to do is want it. I have never met a teacher that was not willing to help a student who was willing to try their best.
It does not matter who the teacher is, or the principal or anyone else because things are not going to change until each parent get involved with their child because education start at home.
Also, is the reason you did not use your real name is because this is your third school system. I did find that fact interesting in your reply.
I am retired from the system after 27 years and would still be there if it was not for health reasons. So far you know I was not a secretary or a teacher - so if you wish to keep guessing you may but I enjoyed working for the district and I was always treated fair and like what I did mattered.
In fact you sound like a member of the school board because you did not mention the other two.
Accept the fact that no matter who gets the job they are not going to please everyone and at the rate the county is growing it is a difficult job and it would help if the person knew our system and problems because they would know what they are getting into and also they may have some good ideas on how to solve them.
Well, I have said what I wanted to say except for one thing - I am very grateful that I am not a pea in your pod.

I think your complaints are directed mostly at Mr. Stone, Mr. Greer and Mr. McKay - Mr. Muse has no other choice but to work with them because they were elected by the people of Osceola County. Only the voter have control over who is on the board and until the voters take the time to investigate each person running for office and then vote for the most qualified there will be no change. Just because someone has an attractive sign does not make them the best person for the job.
Just because Mr. Muse does not scream and jump up and down when he disagrees with a person does not make him a wimp. I have known him since he was a teacher and I have the highest respect for him because I have seen him handle situations that require tact and never have I known him to be anything but a gentleman in all situations

Ellen the superintendent should be running the school district himself or he should leave. One of the problems with the people who have been here a long time is they do not know how an appointed superintendent should work. As Blaine has said people don't know how different things are. He is clueless that he is the one who should hire and fire people not the board. He has allowed this board to get out of control. He may be a gentleman but a terrible superintendent.

Blaine has let McKay, Stone and Greer do things to people just because they don't like them. When someone stands up (as Blaine should have) and tells them it is illegal he never backs anyone. So many good peole have been hurt by McKay, Greer and Stone. Just because you are elected to office does not give you the right to not go by the law of the state!!!!!!!!!!

It is not Mr. Muse's job to control the school board. If it was why would we need them? He can voice his views but he cannot or should he be allowed to control how they vote. The fact is that no one has noticed all the right things that they have accomplished - just the bad. It is time for the parents to get involved and learn about the person they are voting for that has a lot of control over their child's education.

I am a former student of both Mr. Muse and "Mr.D" as we fondly called him. I have nothing but respect for both of them and I think that all the whiners on this site should consider that they might possibly need to get a life. And no, I do not work at the district.

Oh Ellen. Your pure heart is wonderful, however, you really need to look more closely at Mr. Muse and his lack of true management ability.
You are absolutely correct that he takes instructions from the ENTIRE school board, however, 3 votes wins. But it has been his decision to allow politics to become involved, rather than protecting our school system. He decided to become political. His lack of management skills allowed our school system to continually lose money and supplies, as evidenced in the most recent audit. It is his lack of management ability which has caused our schools to decline in the, in my opinion, worthless FCAT system. Mr. Muse does not boost the morale of teachers. Mr. Muse's management skills lack the ability to properly designate certain jobs to qualified individual staff members, rather than just allowing certain underlings to just get it done.
I will always maintain that Mr. Muse is one of the nicest guys around, and one of the better educaters in Osceola. Unfortunately, because of that he was given a job he could only fail in, which he has, with the assistance of the elected school board.

Maybe it does only take 3 but they are still elected by the people and that is the rule.
This is the last thing that I have to say about this - maybe when we gave the board the right to appoint the position the people voting should have considered who was getting the power to decide who should get the job.
Done, finished, except for one little thing - the situation should not be blamed on Mr. Muse entirely but also the board and the voters of Osceola County.

Ellen-Blaine has been paid a lot of money to educate our children. The supeintendent is to make sure the board knows when the law in being broken. He is the first line of defense to make sure they do as the law of the state says. If he has to lose his job he is to let the public know what is going on!!!!!!!His job is not the most important thing!!! Blaine wanted to stay superintendent for too many years. He has lied and I have watched him do so. I do not see him as a gentleman. Lieing was a way for Blaine to save face. Blaine I hope you like your face because it has mud all over it.
