Newspapers need more articles like this that really outline an area of our community, what is being done, what can be done, and what the future might look like. Very well done!

As a tourist that comes to I-Drive every year, I am amazed by all this street has to offer. You can certianly tell the north end from the south end, and getting rid of the congestion on the north end would not be a bad idea!! I am amazed also by the crime reported in this area! guess I will be on the look out in the coming months!!

The only thing worse than north I-Drive is the 192 area near Kissimmee.

Let's give thanks that Lake Mary is the one forced to see your face everyday and not us down here.

Make the tourist area's of I drive a one strike and your in prison for life with no possibility of parole.
No matter the seriousness of the crime.

The most important thing in that are is the people who pay the bills.
The Tourists.
Without them their is no I drive.
They had better get rid of the criminal's before they lose them.
The Tourists.

This a good thing to clean up the I Drive area. Since our local economy is dependent on tourists. When will the leaders of Orlando I mean centeral Florida bring in more business's that pay more than minimum wage and provides positions with companines not just jobs that come and go with the tide of tourits.

The best way to rid I-Drive of crime rid the crime from Oakridge Road and Tangleo Park. I drive is a reflection of the local residents.

Seeing a "future" in all of this may come years down the line, by which time the next renovation will cost 600,000,000.00.

What makes you think that the families that have come here for years are going to walk into an area where 2,200 crimes are reported in ONE week?

What makes you believe that those grandparents that used to bring grandchildren yearly are going to be able to afford to do so ?

These people have lost 30,000.00 + in investments out of thier pension funds last week.

As long as we have parents who are not raising responsible kids and who do drugs themselves, without value of or consideration for human lives we will stay right where we are.

Personal responsibility needs to come into play, values need to be brought back and actively taught. We need to put people first, money second.

Tossing $$$$ at a pile of trash doesn't make it an art piece.

the congestion is horrible and to make matters worse all ofthe tourists who make the mistake of staying at a hotel on this grease-strip have to watch out for all of the punk Kimbo Slice's coming south from kirkman dr to prey on their unsuspecting aszes. welcome to the city beautiful!

Here's my thoughts:
- it takes more than grassy medians and trees to revitalize an area. This is the county inept land planner answer to everything.
- there's little room to expand lanes on north I-drive since the county, over the years, allowed businesses to build right up to the right-of-way line and didn't build in easements for future lane expansion. Yet another example of the inept land planners and lack of vision for the entire county.
- get rid of the money laundering businesses on north I-drive, bring in viable chain stores, and watch the clientele change dramatically. Then add your oak trees that will never be pruned so you screen the store fronts like on south I-drive.
- clear out the dead stores on the strip and put in parking to co-locate traffic into zones and not the entire strip.
- do a real study to see how many people actually ride the I-drive jolly trolley. If it's viable, keep it and expand it to the parking zones mentioned above. If it's barely hanging on, dump it.

There's a multitude of what we call in the design business 'compact city' elements that can be implemented at a minimal cost to truly fix the problems on I-drive. What I've mentioned above are only a few.

That will never, that is why I got out of that place. The pay in Orlando is a joke. I had to work two jobs just to pay for my apartment and I lived in the ghetto.

They should have put all the bed tax money in yhis area now with the british economy divivg this will hurt I -drive maybe if they had free transportation from the airport to I-drive and give free tooth brushes in each room so the british chicks will brush their teeth and get rid of the yellow plack.

I'm not a huge fan of the Red Coats myself, but in reality if it weren't for them, the South Americans and the other small percentage of Europeans coming to Orlando; we'd be in a massive local recession. Especially, since Americans are planning many vacations and spending money they don't have to, for the next year or so.

You can't just magically generate high-paying jobs, you can't force existing businesses to pay higher wages, and you can't force higher paying businesses to come to Orlando. You have to lure them. They have to have reason to locate here and not some other place.
What might (and usually does) lure higher-paying businesses and industries is favorable tax breaks and similar concessions. If that's okay with you, then suggest it to political leaders. But then you can't complain about those "tax breaks for those rich businessmen," which is always the popular thing to complain about.

We screwed up in developing this city. It's not just I-Drive that is problematic. Look at Kirkman, Alafaya, 192, 536, etc. All parts of this backwards city were built without vision except for College Park, Maitland, Winter Park, and some of downtown (all the older parts).

Suburbia has become trashy and will continue. Altamonte was once a nice part of town, now it is so-so, and soon it will become a trash heap too. The same goes for longwood, Lake Mary, Winter Garden, and all of East Orange county.

I Drive. Tried it once, didn't like it. Doubt I'll ever go back for any reason. Just a tourist trap and a good spot for criminals to do their thing.

When the price of homes go up again Tangelo park would be a good place to invest. It's central to almost everything, and just needs a few other races to move in and intergrate the neighborhood.

Wouldn't it be better to eliminate the tax write off the strip mall owners get when they don't lease their shopping centers for some outrageous price? All the retail space on I-drive is owned by some wealthy corporations that use the nonrent as a deduction at tax time. If they couldn't write it off they'd have to consider lowering the rent to get some vendors in.
