Is it called "greening" because the fruit turns green? I ask, because I noticed one tree I have this year had fruit that never turned orange, and that is a first.

yes, it would have been nice if they gave at least a brief description of what greening is. Not sure why they would write a lengthy article citrus greening and assume the average lay person would even know what they are writing about?

Here is a link to the United States Department of Agriculture page on greening. They include an image gallery of the symptoms. If the link doesn't work, google "citrus greening"

The article did note that greening can deform the fruit, turns orange juice bitter and kills the tree. That's a pretty good description. A fair amount has been written about the fact the disease is misnamed, in that the leaves actually turn yellow. But other things turn citrus leaves yellow, so that's not a good identifier for most folks. It really takes lab tests (pcr) to tell for sure, anyway.

There are more snake oil salesman in agriculture than any other business except maybe the pharmaceutical business. Needless to say, spraying nutrients and aspirin on your trees is not a cheap endeavor by any means.

Can anyone advise on where a homeowner might purchase, or make up a brew, of this "SALICYLIC ACID"? What is the mix formula? Can you spray at the same time with nutrients and such in the same batch (such as with copper spray)? This Greening appears to also be prevalent throughout our sector.

no... but since aspirin is a synthetic form of salicilic acid in willow trees... you could just soak your plants in willow water.
