Ban pit bulls. I know, the fans will say it's the owner, not the dog, but we need rules because of all the bad owners...

Sorry for both dogs, but I'm glad someone took care of the situation since these ignorant owners of pit bulls won't keep them under complete control. The owners need to face time in jail and with fines, or the government needs to completely outlaw these wild animals who do not belong in civilized society!

The local chapter is already looking into what may be an unjustified shoot. If it is deemed a bad shoot, we will vigorously call for legal action and/or criminal charges to be filed. Shooting dogs is not right. Dogs are our friend.

Pit bulls yes..their wiring is completely shot from over in-breeding. But, we owned a 180-pound Rottie that was just like a child. Not aggressive to anyone or any animal at all. Dobies aren't aggressive, either. My friend had two. Now, of course, if you train ANY dog to be an attack dog, then yeah, it will be mean as hell. I had a vet who had to muzzle a Chihuahua once. Little bugger would damn near take his hand off.

Shooting the dog was absolutely necessary, I love dogs, but if mine were attacked I would have done exactly the same thing.

Boxers, they are the best natured

The Miami Herald reported that the pit bull jumped out of its owner's vehicle specifically to attack the other dog. That is quite a bit different than "trotting into the yard," as this article phrases it.

Yeah Not all dogs are our friends. I have been attacked more than once in my lifetime by a pit-bulls. They are vicious animals that need to be eliminated from the face of the world before they kill more innocent victims! They act real cute at first and all of sudden they go Nuggin Futz they cant be trusted to be nice doggies! Its not the owners, its the savage breed that's instinctly kill!

Self defense will warrant shooting the dog. You are not talking about protecting the dog that is getting bit as a victim. Something one sided about your post.

It's very simple really - the law should be that if you live in an urban area, if your dog gets out without a leash, you lose your dog. If the dog bites someone, you go to jail.

and waste more time with the water hose "trying" and most probably failing so that his poor "normal" pet - his dog Crystal - would suffer even more damage. Get real Mr.Pitbull owner. The shooting ws justifiable and well done in order to avoid any further damage by that monster. Pitbulls ARE ALL monsters, no matter how they are raised - they will all become aggressive sometime. Anyone living near a pitbull should be armed and ready to use it at all times. Living near a pitbull is worse than living in a crime-ridden neighborhood.

Just what we need, more wacko peta people. Pit bulls are not our friends. They are the dogs from hell!If a pit bull attacked my yorkshire terrier, I would shoot it as well, but it wouldn't walk away!

Pit Bulls should be just like guns. Take a class, get a permit and THEN you can own one. If you're going to own one then you need to take responsibility for the animal. You're dog getting loose is not taking responsibility.

That's NOT pit bulls who are trying to kill another dog, especially on someone else's property!

I'm sure this peron is pulling our collective legs. Even PETA doesn't care about pit bulls.

Then the irresponsible owner should only ride with the windows up, and pit bulls should be completely outlawed because of their vicious natures to brutally attack others!

Sorry, PETA and this comes from a die-hard dog mama but that man was 100% justified. A huge satellite dish AND a gunshot weren't enough to take that dog down. Why aren't you worried about the poor boxer mix that got attacked? If you're an animal lover, instead of "looking into" the shooting, start collecting funds from PETA to help pay the vet bills of the injured dog.

I hear the new backpack system with the rip cord release works really well.
