but if Frank is going to plead not gulity by reason of insanity.....

then he must cooperate and tell the feds everything he knows.

This could be a huge issue for the dozens of people around Frank who are just as dirty.

John? Mark? Anthony? the vandenberg bros?

who lost money, but as one who also has a loved with bipolar with psychotic features, I can see how this could have happened. My ex was entirely normal, then almost overnight started acusing me of poisoning all the food in the house, calling the police because the dogs wouldn't stop talking to him, thought the neighbors wanted him to climb on their roof and protect them from nonexistant mutant attacking squirrels.

He was Baker Acted more than 40 times, the longest hold time about 14 hours. If he could say he was admitted to the psychiatric facility voluntarily, he would be released immediately. The mental health system is in shambles.

I am sorry this man is mentally unbalanced and even more sorry so many lost money, but the mentally ill are not particularly careful money managers.

How 'bout a responsible and respectful article on bi-polar disease?

For you doubters: it IS a disease of the brain - like any other physical injury or disability. I'm not saying that the illness is an excuse or justifies criminal activity - but when someone is in a pyschotic state, that psychosis IS their normal.

But we continue to live in a society of stigma and fear that refuses to learn and accept that mental illness is real, affects thousands of people, and is not just a cop-out.

I suppose the conspirators have bi-polar as well.
Amodeo was disbarred as a Georgia bankruptcy lawyer in 1994 and later went to federal prison for defrauding a client." One will fein illness, get a dr. to sign an excuse for you, esp. if a 2nd prison term is apparent. He's a scammer and should pay for his crime; can't turn our court rooms into psychiatrist couches. Why didn't his wife have him Baker-Acted in 1994 if he didn't know the consequences of his actions? Should have nipped it in the bud rather than wait to see if the scams were $uccessful.
Amodeo's wife tried but the government would not listen until 1999 most of the time they were seperated because of his condition. During this period Amodeo would seek treatment at his wife's insistence and do fine until the money ran out and he could not afford treament anymore. Dr. Lewis one of only two psychiatrists in the bureau of prisons finally helped Frank. The local probation office got a judge to order the government to pay for Frank's treatment this worked fine until probation was over, then no more treatment as soon as the money ran out. The wife kept warning everyone but nobody would listen.

EVERYONE listened and EVERYONE knew. They set this guy up as cover for their own misdeeds. Where's the story on the officers and Board of Directors of Mirabilis? I hope the feds plan on going after them, too!

That is exactly how it has happened for my brother-in-law as well. I feel terrible for him. At the same time, I can't take him into my home. My children are terrified of their uncle. He scares me, too.

I hate to see the "general Public" corraling all mentally ill people as the gunman or criminal.
Most people who are Bi-Polar go on for years without the PC diagnosis becauase they are very charming, well spoken, the life of the party, the social drinker, who are very manipulative when on a positive mania. The lack of sleep, I dont get my way or the psychotic features hit on a mjor level then all bets are off. That life of the party lovable person becomes the crazy loon who has very little to zero reasoning and decsion making choices / skills.
Mental Illness is NOT a choice, it is a disease like diabetes. People dont choose to have or even pretend to have any type of dibilitating illness unless once again the are mentally ill.
Do you criticize and throw anger and hate at the diabetic who crashed her car into the grocery stores wall because the sugar was to high or to low... NO the normal reaction is " Oh the poor woman her insulin sugar levels varied, again and had another accident, again".....
Or the Epileptic who cannot predict with any accuracy when a seizure is going to hit reagrdless of the fact the person is on meds yet still has break through seizures.....
Mental Illness is no different than epilepsy, diabetes, asthma, or any chronic disease... The meds may work for a while then all the sudden they dont and need to be adjusted....
Reality sucks when you have any chronic illness because like man, medicine and disease are very unpredictable....

Everyone should have basic healthcare regardless of the illness.

Some responsibility here...seems a lot of people knew that he had a mental problem and put him in charge...stealing payroll taxes to fund a lifestyle...hmmmmmm

Pretty good ploy...put the mental incompetent in the hotseat while everyone else who is just as dirty sits back and points a finger at him.

Same on his wife who knew of his problem and allowed him to steal the money. Guess its hard to take care of someone with mental illness when your a sporting around in a jet.

In the meantime the payroll taxes went unreported and the poor soul who needs that 10 year mark to be eligible for benefits because he is disabled is now screwed. The management privy to the con should be stripped of everything they own and spend a lifetime in jail.

In 2004, based on a recommendation from a "respected" member of the downtown business community, I met Amodeo at the Mirabilis offices to dicsuss doing business with him. I was not impressed: his claims were wild, his vision flawed, his due diligence material embarassing. Any recent graduate from a top MBA program could discern that the guy was a con artist. What amazes me here are the number of allegedly quality people and organizations who fell for this guy's con: the Magic, Stuarts, Batchelors, etc. These are the ones who we trust with good sense to lead and represent this community? Yes, Amodeo deserves jail but his other associates deserve to be discredited. And that is the investigation the Sentinel is not following through on.

The laws have not changed;the controlling persons, directors and officers of professional employer organizations are liable for paying the taxes or not as the case may be. No one else is responsible to ensure the taxes are paid or the contracts are fulfilled.

The feds are disappointed because the sexy targets including Amodeo and the professionals are simply not under any duty to pay the taxes or protect the customers.
