How nice. But meanwhile, my brother-in-law, who is completely incoherent and unable to care for himself, can't get into a facility. Maybe he should pretend to take over the Congo. Then again, who wants to care for medicaid patients?

I think that the people above who made comments like:

"these are the type of people that head our corporations...while the sane people struggle to make 50k a year"

"At least this nut is diagnosed...unlike Dick Cheney who is still on the loose."

are the ones exhibiting an extreme paranoiac psychosis where they believe that all corporations, and heads of corporations are by definition evil and dishonest and that the President and Vice President of the Nation, by fault of being in a political party not of their own are inherently evil and dishonest as well without any proof other than the rantings and school child blogging by other dope heads such as themselves on far left wing socialist web sites preaching that the true salvation to the country is to turn Marxist / Leninist.

You point out something very important and very true: So many people with bipolar disorder cannot get treatment because they do not have the money. It's terribly unfair.

The bipolar defense can be used by everyone. Amodeo knew he was ripping people off, and all this baloney is a ruse to get a leaner verdict. Napoleon, Hitler, and Hussein were all bipolar too! So what?

I'm going to design a BiPolar Meter to scan prospective con-men before I do business with them!

Sarah,

You certainly have my sympathy. I have a friend that has three small children, has a growth on her ovary, extreme abmominal pain, and has to go to the emergency room to be seen, treated, then sent home. They don't want to help her, they know it is expensive, but possibly life threatening, so they say to contact a medicaid doctor. Are they kidding? Where can you find one of those? She went to a clinic run by a nurse, and they gave her a shot of steroids. Our medical society, or political society and our corporate society are all run by money.

"Although Amodeo, 47, has not been charged with any crime, federal prosecutors have alleged in court documents that he and unidentified conspirators used Mirabilis to steal $182 million in employee taxes from payroll-outsourcing companies they controlled from 2004 to 2008." I suppose the conspirators have bi-polar as well.

Amodeo was disbarred as a Georgia bankruptcy lawyer in 1994 and later went to federal prison for defrauding a client." One will fein illness, get a dr. to sign an excuse for you, esp. if a 2nd prison term is apparent. He's a scammer and should pay for his crime; can't turn our court rooms into psychiatrist couches. Why didn't his wife have him Baker-Acted in 1994 if he didn't know the consequences of his actions? Should have nipped it in the bud rather than wait to see if the scams were $uccessful.

Disbarred and sent to prison for defrauding a client in 1994 and now he has bipolar? How convenient for him.

The only difference between him and the thugs who hold a gun to your face in a convenience store is the suit he's wearing and the loot taken.

What a disgusting piece of trash.

Amodeo & Pearlman are just the tip of the iceberg of crooks here in Florida. In the next couple of years there's going to be a slew of stories about crooks aka (Real Estate & Mortgage Broker Moguls) who are currently under investigation by the Federales here in Central Florida with there faces plastered on t.v. and the papers for similar crimes.

She should temporarily move to Europe, until she is well. She would have to pay nothing for healthcare, there and would get stellar treatment. Now, who says universal healthcare doesn't work?

Ah, and that is exactly my point. Mental health care is not cheap. Yet the people who tend to need it most are the people who can't hold down jobs because...ta da!...they have mental health issues! It's a terrible catch-22.

Actually, if you read the June 5 Orlando Sentinel article, it was Prosecutor Randy Gold who first brought up the mental incompetency in bankruptcy court. That's just great - the government hands Amodeo a defense against criminal charges.
