Here we go again, another sensless tragedy due to bus stops being on the wrong side of the road. Wake up people, and don't let your kids cross the street for bus stops.

I'm sure people blaming the drivers is coming next...

Hope the child will be well soon. Lets start opening our eyes more when we get near school crossings/bus stops.

Bay Lake Rd is a rural road. It isn't that busy that a 13 year old shouldn't be able to safely cross it to get to the bus stop. Unfortunately, accidents happen. Prayers and thoughts for the youngin's complete recovery and hugs for the parents. Prayers also for the driver. How terrible it must be for him/her to know that he/she hit a child.

Yes, let's blame more drivers for driving their cars on the road, shame on them. They should all start walking.

NOT!

LOOK BOTH WAYS!!! Yes people should watch, but it's still a large car weighing a ton or more.

Start addressing these safety issues parents!!! Stop placing blame on others and do your damn jobs!!!

Accidents like this happen every year until the end of daylight savings time which brings more light to the early morning hours.

And this year, it happens even later. We need to abolish daylight savings time.

I don't think their is any blame here god knows it wasn't a "purposedent" thats why they are called accidents, they happen. As long as we have roads people will travel them, as long as we have schools we will have bus stops. Just like as long as we have air we will breath. It was bad judgement, not paying attention alot of things we may never no, but you can't blame the driver, or a child for running accross. I know my child is 14 years old and I still yell to look both ways. I do agree with preaching to your kids about safety even when they don't want to hear it... But just like they have always said you can lead a horse to water you just can't make them drink.

Unless this child of 13 was mentally deminished there is no reason she shouldn't have looked both ways before crossing any roadway, bus stop or not! I'm not saying this is the case, but a few years back there was a rash of kids playing "Chicken" with passing cars at bus stops and several ended up being hit by unsuspecting drivers. The point is, that these kids today don't have any respect for traffic laws, they walk in the direction of the traffic and ride their bikes against the traffic, they cross the roads where ever they please and they expect, no demand, that vehicles that weigh 1,500 - 2,000 lbs go around them at a moments notice. I,m sorry the kid got tagged, she's very lucky she's not dead. I bet next time she will take the time to look both ways!

"Where were the parents???????"

I think that 13 is old enough for a child to walk to a bus stop unsupervised.

They were probably at home getting ready to work, same as I was when my 3 kids were 13 years old. You're trying to blame the PARENTS? It was an accident. Let me guess. You either have very small children, none in the "teens", or none at all. If you did, you would have never asked such a stupid question (I hope)..

Hope it wasn't some idiot talking on a cellphone while driving or some redneck speeding to get to his "girlfriends" house. If someone hits my car while they are talking on a cellphone..Im going to hurt them very badly before the police arrive at the scene. Fed up with idiots who aren't smart enough to drive or even exist without help from others.

This is about the kids. It's not about your pride.

Actually, I have none of the above, but I do have common sense. The kid is old enough to walk to the bus stop alone, and should know enough to *look both ways twice* before crossing. But stupid is as stupid does, and that's what leads to these accidents. I hope the child will be ok, and the driver is in my thoughts as well.

As a full-time pedestrian who's seen other pedestrians AND drivers do stupid things, I try my best to be responsible and aware when I'm out and about; I cross at crosswalks, with the lights and "walk" signals and, if it's dark, when I'm walking across the street or in an area where there's no sidewalk, I carry a lit flashlight. Everyone of us who's out there needs to be aware of our surroundings, especially this time of year when it stays dark later in the morning and gets dark earlier in the evening. My prayers are with this young lady.

Amazing- 17 comments and not ONE that holds the DRIVER responsible or accountable.

I don't care if someone is crossing in the middle of the street or what side the bus stop is on-

if you're drving a MULTI TON vehicle, the ultimate responsibility lies with the DRIVER- drivers are SUPPOSED to be ALERT at ALL times and are supposed to be prepared for and expect the UNEXPECTED.

With how drivers are so impatient, running yellow lights, running RED lights, speeding and just barreling down the street, I am AMAZED that there are not more accidents.

And it SICKENS me how people are so quick to blame ANYTHING or ANYONE other than the driver of the VEHICLE!!

What is WRONG with people???
