Seems like a shady enough business to violate the FLSA. I hope the employees can prove their case vs Westgate Migrant Farms, Inc.

if the low pay in this state is not bad enough now theses shady employers feel they can get away with not paying overtime. Its time to repeal the right to work clause in the state constitution workers should have at least some very basic rights.

This is probably one of the most important legal matters in Central Florida and the health of Westgate is of importance to thousands of people here but the Sentinel still cannot seem to piece together any kind of comprehensive article on where this major area employer stands financially. When it comes to Casey Anthony, or people run over by trucks, the Sentinel slaps that crap on the front page. But if the article requires some analysis, investigation or frankly any level of thought above that expected of a zombie, we as the readers never get it. Sentinel, when is this going to change?

It's about time the poor work slaves for this billionaire master revolted. Now, if only the damages would bankrupt him, but like most of his type, it'll probably just be a blip on the money screen for him.

Even if CFI/Westgate goes out of business, you will still own there and be part of the HOA, etc. Just means that the HOA will need to find a new management company to run your resort, and not pay the over inflated maintenance fees that Westgate seems to get now as the management company!

While in college, I went to work for CFI ( Central Florida Investments--one of Siegal's companies ). I stayed 3 days and left. I knew the place was sleezy and the tactics were morally and ethically wrong.
As for these people crying foul......I say, thats what you got what you deserved. Timeshare sales people are about as sleezy and unethical as they come..........

Its sad that in this economy that companys will take advantage of their employees especially when it comes to cheating them out of overtime compensation. Its even worse if you work in a "Right To Work" state. That gives these abusers a license to terminate an employee at will.

Correct! Not only did we not get anytype of severance package, but also did not get paid our vacation time, since acording to them you don't start to accumulate vacation until you have been there a full year!! Something that was never openly disclosed at the time of employment. In the meantime, he continues to employ half of his family and his wife's family. Let's not forget the construction of his 91,000 sq.ft. home which continues.

Westgate Resorts modified its employee manual/contract and online records to eliminate all references to the severance pay policy in place prior to laying off thousands. Basically, they changed an existing employment contract without any of the employees knowledge and then gave their employees the boot with no notice.

I have contacted Westgate about my missing severance pay and have received no reply as of yet. I plan on going down fighting if necessary. By the way, the severance pay policy is Policy/Procedure Number: 361.

i work at a westgate in Tennessee and they will make you work over the 8 hour shift then tell you that you have to cut your time at 40. There have been times that i was told to stay over for 2,3 hours , I have to stay here ,,there is no jobs right now so im stuck here for now. I hope every one that they have stuck it to gets there payback !!!

If you happen to have a copy of that, its time to contact a lawyer and write a demand letter. If they still ignore, contact the media. I got kicked without severance and my vacation time disappeared just before that, I was in the process of finding out what happened to my hours when I got laid off.
