Unless they were fishing the rim ditch or the channel in clewiston, I don't see how he doesn't surface. Most of the lake depth is such that you can stand up on the bottom and still have your head above water. Perhaps if you panic some weeds might get you caught up in them??

If you ever fall off a boat, swim to the BACK of the boat, because that sits lower in the water and you can get out much easier than trying to lift yourself up from the front.

Why allow comments like this to be placed for all eyes to read. The thing about all of you is you didn't know any of them. I did and have for years. Okeechobee does not need or want your comments or support.

I agree where in the Lake did he fall. I was fishing there last week and the deepest area on the lake itself were just over 4feet. Rim ditch is deep but still...Something weird here...

I am the sister and sister in law of two that were with Bubba on the day of the tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to Margaret, family, and the tackle shop gang. For those of you that do not know them or the gang, they will never forget this last day they spent with him. Laughing, joking, and doing what they all done, just about every day. My brother in law spent just about every day with him, I think my sister thought he loved Bubba more. I was only lucky enough to here his laughs and jokes over the phone and all for the things they have done and shared. Last Christmas Bubba grinned from ear to ear because of all the gifts the tackle shop gang donated to kids. And the money raised for many things. One thing about this tackle shop gang and their close knit friendship, they will carry out all these goods things, in memory of Bubba. My sister said he was so proud of his wife running for office, go get em Margaret. I could go on, to each and all you in my hometown of Okeechobee my thoughts and prayers go out to each and every one of you. The Lord hears your prayers and will comfort you. May your hearts of sadness be comforted. God bless each of you.

Three other passengers were on the boat at the time. I suppose none of those people could swim or even attempted to jump in and try to save the guy? Amazing.

Maam support and compassion are not requirments on a newspaper blog. A blog is meant to discuss an event and debate it. I'm sorry for the pain his death caused for you and his friends. Those are who you need to focus on. God bless you.

Note reads Post comment, be polite, inappropriate posts may be removed. HMMMMMM.....Not too many being polite if you ask me. How about read about articles about how bad the lake is, or better yet, go there jump in and see if you can see anything. How about help preserve the Lake for better visibility, because there is not any. If something was too happen to you, wouldnt you want it to be a place you loved. He was an angler, and knew the Lake for many years, and took his last breath there. Come help preserve the Lake, he would want you to.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Margaret and family. My sister and brother in law (Nancy and Possum Jones) used to fish with Bubba and Margaret all the time. I remember him as always smiling and joking.

For all you people that are speculating, you need to just stop. That man has been on that lake every day for years, you don't know what happened and your comments hurt the people that loved him and were with him on that day. Put yourself in their shoes and see how you would feel if it was your friend.

Judge not that you be not judged!
Bubba will be missed and a Great Fisherman he was. Do not speculate, it was a terrible thing. No one should have to read the garbage of some of you. His family and the whole community deserve better. Bubba was an ok guy and will be missed by his family immed. and fellow fisherman. FOR GOD SAKES PRAY FOR THEM AND THEN LOOK IN THE MIRROR. HE DESERVES MORE FOR THE GOOD HE DID>>>>>

My heart goes out to Margaret and family. I've known the family for years and they are very special poeple. Margaret and Bubba were a team.
Margaret you hold you head high and win this election. That's what Bubba wanted. We have nine
generations of family there and we are in support
of you. My heart goes out to all of the gang at
the tackle shop. We all cried and lost a dear friend.
