In favor of commuter rail only because the cities to the north and south of us are going to get it. But a "dedicated funding source" sounds like a tax to me. Shouldn't that be a county-wide tax? Why should WP pay the majority?

OneWP will do anything to undo the referendum on commuter rail that WP residents approved. This potentially includes certain commissioners meeting with the OneWP "brain trusts" one at a time to craft a plan to undo it. Why one at a time you ask? As to avoid sunshine laws. Why undo a referendum that passed? Because they think they can do whatever they want. And they DO NOT want commuter rail, even if it was free!

It's now "Won Winter Park", according to He-Who-Runs-The-Show National Bank of Commerce boss Colado's email signature. They certainly do NOT want commuter rail, but let them try to do away with it. That silent majority who was fed up with WP politics before the last election will get up off their arses and shake some bushes big-time.

I'd be surprised if they tried to undo it. The 2 commissioners are doing us a favor. This is a federal project that will happen, whether we like it or not. 2017 will be here before we know it and cost certainty is a must. I'd like to see Orange go the way of Volusia and have all residents pay for the service. Don't we all pay for Lynx, schools? I am not ONEWP, but on this one, they are doing the right thing.

Thank you Phil and Beth for asking the essential, important questions that the cheerleaders for unrestrained and unplanned growth glossed over in the rush to approve this unfunded project. These are issues that should have been addressed BEFORE approval, but much like the Iraq situation, it takes agents of change to come along and clean up the mess of the prior administration.
Why do we pay more

wow hope springs eternal for you rail people doesnt it? what I mean is: this rail project is KIA, DOA, dead, pushing up daisies ... get it? despite the local approvals, the fact of the matter is the federal money is disappearing at precisely the time - both locally and federally - the economy is shriveling, costs are skyrocketing, and tax revenue is drying up. even an approved heavily traveled and much needed route in northern virginia has essentially been canned b/c the fed is coming up short. this largely useless "trophy" system will never get started if a necessary system can't even get funded in DC metro. Nevermind the massive payout to CSX, the trial lawyers and the liability issue ... nevermind that the projected costs have gone from 600M to 1B to 1.2 billion since we all voted on this.

Glenda Hood's proposal died the same death, and it took 10 years to revive the subject, and that was when there was PLENTY of dough to spend (think pre-Bush, pre-Iraq).

If you really want to park your car and take public transport somewhere, I recommend you grab a LYNX schedule. We know you won't, but then, you likely wouldn't ride that cattle-car train anywhere, either.

Why should WP pay more than any other city? Why should my taxes go up to pay for a train I'll never use? Which parts of our city's budget should be cut for the convenience of Lake Mary residents?

Don't hold your breath, folks.

Due to lack of projected riders, city, state and federal taxpayers will have to always subsidize the operation expense of the Mica Express. Is this a big surpise to anyone or was it planned to be this way? Of course, this will relieve the congestion on I-4 and not cause congestion at the intersections in the various cities. This is your government in action!

This is just the "Florida Bullet Train" all over again. Voters approved that one, too, but I don't see any bullet train. File this under "seemed like a good idea at the time," and then revisited when cooler heads prevailed. I'm surprised you peons actually still believe your "vote" counts for much of anything beyond rubber stamping the will of special interest donors.

The Winter Park city commissioners need to put down the brie and the white wine and stop the commuter rail boondoggle.
Can you imagine the crime train with the unwashed pouring into tony Park avenue?
Not only is a waste but once the Rican gangs get done with Park avenue, the city commission won't have the ability to stop the worthless train.
Put down the brie and stop the train!

WHAT????

I thought Congressman John Mica said commuter rail was FREE.

IT'S NOT FREE? DUHHHH

So the masterminds of WP just now figured this out? They said sure we will buy iT.....BTW how much does it cost? DUHHHHHH

IF COMMUTER RAIL WAS 100% FREE I WOULD SUPPORT IT, BUT IT IS NOT FREE AND I DON'T WANT HIGHER TAXES TO SUPPORT AND EMPTY TRAIN OR CONGRESSMAN MICA'S CSX FRIENDS.

HOW MUCH ARE YOU WILLING TO PAY FOR AN SLOW EMPTY TRAIN??

The new WP Commission has the leadership skills, intelligence and h-o-n-e-s-t-y (important quality) to ask for details and demand a fair deal on commuter rail. They aren't anti mass transit.

It was the last round of Commissioners who handed everything Mica wanted to him on a silver platter. They questioned nothing except possibly their benefits later on.

The Brie and White Wine Good Ole Boy Commissioners have driven off into the sunset in their Mercedes!! thank GOD!

A good ole personal, charachter assault by a ONEWP supporter without any facts to support their libel. As always, they can't discuss the good work being done without sleazy lies and accusations against people no longer in office. I wonder who raised some of these ONEWP types.

Wake up Winter Park leaders. Your cost estimates are way too low. This boondoggle is going to cost you a fortune and will not take a single working stiff to the job and will not remove any cars from the roads. Don't be buffoons. Kill the deal now if your smart and you might get re-elected.

A "new day in WP" where the new "honest" city commission used very sleazy and underhanded tactics to get elected and currently have their minions trying to squelch any criticism with very nasty personal attacks. That they can and will launch a defamitory and false email campaign against an individual and gleefully broadcast it around town is well documented. Criticize them at your peril.

Maybe you should stop be an irrational reactionary for just one moment and tell us all exactly how much more in property tax you'd like to pay so that an empty train can stop in your town. Or would you prefer they stop picking up litter in the park, cleaning graffiti or how about cutting the police force?

Face it, the supporters of this DEAD rail project bought a bill of goods without considering how to pay for it, and made that rash decision at a time when land values and tax revenues were artificially inflated. Times have changed.

Oh you mean as opposed to illegal campaign mailers and SLAPP suits? Feel free to argue in favor of this poorly conceived rail deal all you like, til you're blue in the face even, but don't claim a "vast conspiracy" against you when the FACTS are all that are conspired against you.

Can someone tell me exactly what the benefit to this town this rail system would be? so people that can't/won't afford an automobile can ride it to town for $10 round trip? Is that a good thing? That I can take it instead of Lynx to get to downtown Orlando? Really? How is that better - it goes less places and costs more.

So that's it?!?? Or is it to "stop" global warming symbolically? Or for bragging rights that we're a "real" city? Pretty expensive egoist indulgence methinks. Personally I can't think of anywhere I need or want to go that this train could get me to.

Someone told me it wouldnt even had run on weekends, when businesses on the avenue are the busiest! duh ! it wont even get people to the farmers market LOL.

So NO ONE IS ANSWERING where this "dedicated funding" source is coming from??? HOW ABOUT PARKING METERS ON PARK AVE? They had them years ago, maybe they'll bring em back to pay for the train and further surpress business.... How about a MEAL TAX on restaurants? Maybe RESIDENT PARKING STICKERS and STRICT enforcement?? Upping the MILLAGE rate on your house?? How about a SURCHARGE on any property with more than a 2 car garage? Non resident FEE at the Fleet Peeple DOG PARK? Building a WALMART at WP Village???

And so their "one story" plans for the (dead) proposed station look a lot like a 2 story carlisle like building to me. There was talking about adding a coffee shop or 'restaurant' of some kind in it, too. That's one way to commercialize what used to be fairly continuous public greenspace.

SOUND LIKE A GOOD DEAL TO YOU?

I guess you refer to Gueztloe's "dog poop smeared on neighbor" police report about our Mayor that he (guetzloe) finally admitted he sent anonymously thus breaking election laws? Was he running for office in the last election in WP? And then I guess you are referring to the suit brought by the Carlilse developers? Were they running for office in the last election? Even tho there is no comparison, I get what you are saying: we OneWPers can top any sleazy nasty behavior you can name, and proudly so. As they say, it's a new day in WP. I guess what they mean by that is that honesty and integrity has been redefined.
