WE've always had mostly, Labrador Retrievers....they seem close to perfect, very non-aggresive and willing to learn, also rarely ever have problems with fleas or ticks....only problem is they only live 12-15 years and break your heart, when they pass....

Seems like there's a lot of Golden Retrievers too. Their owners complain of shedding. We have a Standard Schnauzer. Not common but they don't shed and are very sweet.

We have a boxer and a newfoundland, both rescues. Boxer is a very high energy dog, probably better for a home with small kids. The Newfie is the calmest animal on earth, but huge. She's getting old, I don't know what we'll get next.......we always say we're going to get smaller dogs but then I see those little yappy things and want a "real" dog. In the past we've had labs, shepherds, a golden. My elderly mother has a mini-doxie, she's sweet but way too small for our tastes. Maybe another golden, their personalities are as golden as their hair, and they're not quite as big as the newfie.

I know what breed IS NOT popular:

It's the Ronnie W.

It is droopy-jowled and slack-jawed. It has a pot-belly and is extremely lazy. It is extremely anti-social and barks incessantly, but is also very cowardly and lacks the courage to actually DO anything. It is incapable of being the alpha-male in any circumstance. It cannot be trained to do even the most simple activity; partly because of its extremely limited intelligence and partly because of its over-abundance of beligerence. It has very poor hygiene and has been known to languish in its own excrement. Some people think the breed should be muzzled permanently, while others think the noise- while sometimes annoying- is, for the most part, amusing.

Funny story...we landed in Atlanta, looked in the paper and saw a bunch of great puppies, but i told wife, let's do the antique shows first....well, by monday they were mostly gone....so we stayed north and checked out the Chattanooga paper and they had an ad in there....i was determined, if we got outta S.Fla, we would find a better puppy....lol...she is great, and there was a foxred one i wish we would have bought both....
