Full story: Orlando Sentinel

Starting next Wednesday, the penalty for running through a few toll booths without paying will be more lenient on most Orange County roads.

I want them to reimburse the $1500 that I had to pay a lawyer after being arrested for their fracking screwups and "too severe" punishments.

Screw them. I have out-of-state plates and drivers license. And I'm keeping them for precisely this reason.

Sure, let's lighten the penalty. That way more people will run the tolls. That way you can raise the tolls again. i guess I can throw away my E-pass and ignore the tolls now. After all, nothing will happen to me.

Very smart business practice Mr. Expressway Authroity.

The "authority" needs to be held liable for their actions or lack of. If a transponder has no way to tell the operator it is not working, that is an "authority" problem. As for addresses, maybe they relies too much on their overpaid executives rather than DMV records. Send someone out once a year with address correction and they would solve their problems.

This is good move Crotty, but it is to little to late to save your political career.

I'm not on the witchhunt bandwagon. I get on the toll roads and I am happy to have them. I pay my tolls and don't have unreasonable penalties.

A witchhunt by the newspaper doesn't make you a victim. Put a battery in your tranponder and drive on the road if you want to. You'd be complaining a lot more if those road were not there.

Have you ever thrown your coins and the machine not work?Happens quite a bit on those outside lanes. Is this done on purpose or just by a toll worker who needs some extra cash.

People were taking the Authority to court and losing because the Authority knew they were wrong. All they care about is the money. If a person has an account and gets caught going through a toll without the money be deducted, the Authority wants to give that person a $100.00 fine. When all the Authority had to do is deduct the money from the members account. That's the fair thing to do. But, NO, it;s about the money, not doing the right thing.
When the judges or hearing officers discovered that the member had a valid account but was charged for running the toll, they found the member not guilty of running the toll. It is only fair the Authority has to prove the toll running was done in order to elude paying the toll.
After all look at all the board, city and county officials who get free rides on the roads anyway. Some like the Mayor get free rides for life...... talk about unfair.

Witch hunt? Get real! It's called INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING. Something we see little of here in Central Florida (unless you want to include that tabloid crap on local TV news). the Sentinel should re-direct some of their resources from the Casey Anthony circus and blow the lid off the on-going corruption at the Expressway Authority.

I still am not clear on how a psydo government agency, that the execs make quite a nice living are even allowed to ticket in the first place.

Stop me from getting on in the first place but if you are stupid enough to have have easy access then I'm gonna run that mutha.

And thanks to the ricans I have some nice hardware for my license plate that is working well so far on giving me a free ride.

"Calling the old system an "unfair situation," authority Chairman and Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty said, "I'm pleased to see us advocating for our customers."

What??? Advocating for our customers?! You can't be serious. Where were you when they were jacking up the tolls??

What a d0uchebag.

I agree. I also know someone who was arrested for driving on a suspened license. Ofcourse they did not know the license was suspened.
I also had to go to court in Orange and Lake county to resolve the fool ups on my account.

The problem is these new "fast pass" lanes on the 408 over by Semoran .... there is no green light or red light -- no indicator whatsoever whether your toll was registered as paid. So how are you supposed to know whether your battery stopped working? In my case I just got a ticket in the mail! Good thing the US Postal service didn't lose it because if they had, according to the ticket, I would have my license suspended.

Of course I have an E-pass account that is all paid up. No problem, I still owe a $25 ticket because of some malfunction that I was unable to see due to the fact that there is no red light!

I agree. Maybe it's more of Obama's spreading the wealth around program. There are a bunch of these nitwits who don't pay but they us the toll roads because they are quicker and then there are those of us who pay every time. They'll end up raising the rates to pay for the deadbeats who don't pay. That's the Obama way. I see he's convinced Crotty that we need this socialism.

About times this was fixed. It's an outrage that these bozos could suspend your licence without you even knowing about it until it was too late. No, maybe we can fix the expressway authority and get rid of all the dead wood sitting on that board.
