It isn't about commonly used products. It's about products that have a negative impact not just on the person using them, but the people around them.

Very true but remember the context of the proposed tax increase on cigarettes is to provide another revenue stream to fund K-12 public schools. Over a fairly short period of time, as smokers curtail or quit altogether, government will again whine about revenues coming up short, then begin another campaign to tax something else.

With war comes smoking. More vets returning from the war front are smokers. And more war is coming, because of world overpopulation. Better to leave the smokers alone,or they might start smuggling the stuff, and then it will become popular again. Everything goes full circle!

I will be the first to say Smoking is Bad for you, but to all these non-smokers who claim the smokers are fouling there air and should be taxed to make up money, let's take a look at the big picture. You say smokers infringe on you "clean" air, yet you don't hesitate to fire up your big SUV to drive around and run your errands. What do you think that does to the "clean" air? Maybe we should tax everyone who does not drive an economical vehicle. Better yet lets start taxing the heck out of ALCOHOL. Extra taxes for every alcoholic beverage sold, think of the revenue there. Oh no, we can't do that because it's "socially acceptable" to be a lush. Nobody complaining there. We can't advertise cigarettes or tobacco products, but every where you turn is an ad for alcohol. And I would be willing to bet that alcohol has ruined more families than smoking has. Let's think about many teen pregnancies do you think have been caused by a couple of teens smoking a couple of cigarettes, losing their inhibitions and having sex???? Better yet how many times have you heard in the news that someone smoked 2 pack of cigarettes, got into their vehicle and hit a family of 5 coming home from church???? Me neither. We've taxed the day lights out of the smokers, lets go after the alcohol industry now, let them pay up for a while.

I pay extra for driving a large vehicle when I go to the pump. They have to meet emission tests down here. I will probably opt for one size smaller when I replace it and something else to haul things for our businesses. My spouse bought it and then I inherited it. I drive whatever I get the key to. LOL
A prius is too small for me. Even the Ford Edge was too small when I test drove it. I'd love a Jeep Rubicon like Lara Croft had, all tripped out. A Jeep was able to go around me by going off road. You definitely need that capability here.

Jeep or Vespa Scooter for running errands around town?
