Swine flu: First swine-flu death in Central Florida confirmed

A 30-year-old woman who died at Florida Hospital 's Altamonte Springs campus died early Tuesday was Central Florida's first swine flu casualty.

I did a little quick math and it looks like 1 out of 350 or so die from this in the US and about 1 out of 50 or so in Mexico. Seems like a higher number of deaths compared to regular flu.

I don't think the hospital did it's job!! They should have tested her for swine flu right away and DIDN'T! She was in the hospital over a week before anyone even knew she had swine flu. It makes me upset to know that all the nurses and such where taking care of her and had NO idea. They should have went about this differently. She was my friend, I feel if they did things different maybe she would still be here. Thanks for listening to my rant.

Great, now all the nurses that took care of her have been exposed and will spread it further because they don't stay home when they are sick. It drives me insane. If a sickly-appearing nurse enters your room, kick her out and demand another one. I am a nurse, and I stay home when I am sick. Others do not because all they care about is their paycheck, and the employers get ticked when they are short staffed. Stay home sickly health care providers!!!

[Two nurses hospitalized]

From what I hear on the inside is that 2 floor nurses who took care of her are now hospitalized. One came into the ED in acute respiratory distress, fever & vomiting. Supposedly this nurse is on ventilator support & might have been transferred to FL South. I haven't heard anything on the news about it, but then again this story is just breaking.

Just to clear this up...They did test her for swine flu right away and they did know about it right away. Just because you didn't know right away doesn't mean the rest of us didn't know about it already. Please don't continue to speculate, the only ones who know the real story are her family. We love her and miss her dearly.
