Most definitely a young life has been lost and it is a waste, however the law in Florida does say that if someone is breaking into your house without your permission and you feel threatened, it is your right to kill them to protect yourself whether or not the person has a weapon. Bottom line Emily1081, despite your lack of compassion, you are right in Florida. That is coming from a retired State Trooper. Unfortunately, not everyone has been provided with a sense of compassion, even in law enforcement!

First off, Ryan Realford was my friend, and in any case he still is. It's not anybody's place to judge him, I'm sorry, only God can do that. For all of you people saying rude things about him and his family, step your feet in their shoes for a moment. Because I guarantee you, most of you negative commenters are Caucasian. Am I right? See here's you people's problem. You don't know the life that we live on a daily basis. It's people like you, the reason that good boys, like Ryna, had to sell drugs in the first place. That boy was one of the most intelligent teens that I know. And I have the right to say that, I'm a 4.0 Gifted student. Yes that's right, and I'm African American. But I know, for fact, that managers see the color of my skin and won't hire me. It took me 8 months to get the job that I have now. I'm sixteen years old and I HAVE to work. You don't see to many caucasian children like that. Ryan was a good boy. When your mother needs help and the only way to do it is to sell a bag of weed every now and then, you do it. Cause nobody's wants to feel their pockets touching and nobody wants to see their parents suffering. Like his mother said, Ryan Loren Realford was shot in the back. I don't even think the guy who shot him knows why he did it. He knows that Ryan wasn't trying to break into his home, and quite frankly, I feel like he should be in jail right now. He killed an innocent young man, but like I said, it;s not our place to judge. God sees all!

Did this happen at night, or in the Day? The news accounts are not clear.

I do not like to be mean, but should not up to a person to have to guess wrong about whether an intruder is dangerous, especially when there are small children in the home.

The news account of the dead man's aunt was disturbing, calling him a little boy, innocent and insisting he was only crossing through the yard. Breaking into someones home (for whatever reason) is not "innocent". Many "boys" that age have raped and murdered other people, their children, even those boys "who never hurt anyone".

You just don't force your way into someone else's home, run from the police... but it seems the "boy" was not at home, at school, at work or at church.

Your son was out at 3am selling crack.
I have lost several friends over the years to crack. These individuals had glorious futures ahead of them only to be destroyed with assistance from dealers like your son.
Anyone who sells crack should be burned at the stake. Your son got off easy.
You really need a life
