Uh oh: Study says ‘collapsing’ Thwaites Glacier in Antarctica melting from geothermal heat, not ‘climate change’ effects

]Remember the wailing from Suzanne Goldenberg over the “collapse” of the Thwaites glacier blaming man-made CO2 effects and the smackdown given to the claim on WUWT?

Well, never mind. From the University of Texas at Austin and the “you can stop your wailing now” department, comes this really, really, inconvenient truth.

Researchers find major West Antarctic glacier melting from geothermal sources

AUSTIN, Texas — Thwaites Glacier, the large, rapidly changing outlet of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, is not only being eroded by the ocean, it’s being melted from below by geothermal heat, researchers at the Institute for Geophysics at The University of Texas at Austin (UTIG) report in the current edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The findings significantly change the understanding of conditions beneath the West Antarctic Ice Sheet where accurate information has previously been unobtainable.

And it is obvious that Obama and the Democrats also support the principle of 'Trickle Down' economics ..."QE2" as just one example.
Obama is working with an economy that was a hospital pass from Bush. Anything he wants to change about that economy your side WILL NOT let him. So he is stuck with the status quo, a government run by powerful lobby groups and big business interests. So all the tweaking to the economy has to be done with the same rusty ole toolbox that was left to him. He needs a new tool box, the only way that will happen is a congress that is more innovative & progressive thinking. Not likely to happen from the GOP so expect more of the same and the divide will become even greater. Trickle down is a myth!

Exactly.
And from all his options he chose to use "Trickle Down" as his solution to the mess he was handed.

"Researchers find major West Antarctic glacier melting from geothermal sources"

A lie, of course.
"Before our paper, models tended to just assume a uniform geothermal flux value beneath the glacier because it was the best you could do with the observations available (even though the presence of nearby volcanoes and other geologic evidence suggested it was probably very non-uniform).
http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2014/0...

Even Fox News gets it right.
Now, a new study finds that these subglacial volcanoes and other geothermal "hotspots" are contributing to the melting of Thwaites Glacier, a major river of ice that flows into Antarctica's Pine Island Bay.

Researchers have long known that volcanoes lurk under the ice of West Antarctica. This is a seismically active region, where East and West Antarctica are rifting apart. In 2013, a team of scientists even found a new volcano beneath the West Antarctic Ice Sheet.

West Antarctica is also hemorrhaging ice due to climate change.

You commies deserve everything God gives you. You'll all thirst and watch your family, friends and so-called loved ones scramble for the nearest drop of H2O. The Peoples Republik of Kalifornia is now returning to the Earth in the form of desert. You will all kill each other for the life-giving liquid. God has said.

Two points here:
1) " your side " ??? Really?
The Climate (Catastrophic Climate Change) and American Politics (Dems v GOP) are 'black or white' issues now? A 'you' versus 'me' thing?
Seems unrealistic and contrived.

2) "stuck with the status quo" ...Quite the indictment of the leader of the free world.

We are discussing over a 200 year old "toolbox".

If President Obama and the Democrats in Congress cannot find ANY progressive solutions to this economic mess Pres. Bush dumped on this country then they are most likely not looking very hard.

Bottom line:
"Trickle Down" policy is the first choice of BOTH the Dems and the GOP.

Close it commie! You just want a communist government to erase the one we have. We should have a war. It's need and has been a long time in coming.

What we normally forget when talking about the amount of CO2, is the significance it has for the human (and other creatures) health. Above 425 ppm in the atmossphere the healthproblems will become more servere, because the blood will slowly be more acid. This will affect bloodpressure etc.
BTW: President Johnson was informed in 1965 about the dangers in increasing the amount of CO2.
1 reply for two issues.
This title "Once slow-moving threat, global warming speeds up, leaving litt..." (which was started in 2008) and the premise that an atmospheric CO2 concentration of 425ppm is somehow a morbidity issue to human life are both false.

Does such a fact not raise even a small question of doubt in the fundamentalist view of Anthropogenic Carbon Dioxide Driven Catastrophic Global Climate Disruption?

This the "status quo" i'm talking about right here, this is what Obama has to deal with every day to try and make government function. Yes the "trickle down" tools need to go but who has the guts to turn that on it's head when dealing with the above.

If the 3%'ers are not the main recipient of government handouts via tax breaks or incentives anything else just becomes commie socialist policies. That's blind ideology without reason

This is not a critique/analysis of "research".

It's pointing out an error in a blog.

A blog which misrepresents climate research.

Do you have anything to say regarding Roy Spencer's choice of period and start and end dates for the baseline of his analysis yet?

I agree with Doctor Spencer's skepticism of climate change mitigation too. Thanks for posting citations to his blog.

The consensus view of AGW is nonsense, it ignores important scientists like Doctor Spencer. Science isn't a popularity contest, experimental tests define good theory and climate change mitigation has never been tried or tested in a peer reviewed journal.

Spencer is an intelligent designer, that's why he denies:
We believe Earth and its ecosystems—created by God’s intelligent design and infinite power and sustained by His faithful providence —are robust, resilient, self-regulating, and self-correcting, admirably suited for human flourishing, and displaying His glory. Earth’s climate system is no exception. Recent global warming is one of many natural cycles of warming and cooling in geologic history.

The term “science” once meant “knowledge discovered by experimentation, observation and objective investigation.” To be scientific, a thing had to be observable, testable, and repeatable. When one scientist did an experiment, others could repeat his experiment, and obtain the same results. If no one who repeated the experiment came up with the same results, those results had been “falsified”(shown not to be true). Science thrives on this definition. It helps us understand how things work, but it is a big problem for those who don’t believe in the Creator. They claim that a first cell came together spontaneously from mindless chemicals, but this is an opinion about ancient history. It is not observable, testable, or repeatable, so it is not science. Public schoolbooks should not teach it as science.

Intelligent designers and creationists can't believe God booby trapped the Earth so if we burn the coal, we bring Biblical catastrophe upon ourselves: that's God's role.

They deny the science of evolution, and the science of AGW.

They are brian's constituents.

No surprise he borrows their arguments and lauds their proponents in the science world.
