Actually, people drive cars to move from one place to another. Drive from home to the store, to work. Haul materials such as groceries, wood, building supplies, and a host of other things from where they are to where they need to go.
Also many of those who ride motorcycles also have a car that cuts them off from nature for those days when nature is pouring rain or snow down in plentiful quanities.

Tina doesn't get it. For anyone with a business of any kind, the subsidy of huge gas-guzzling SUVs is way, way beyond that for any efficient hybrid. An SUV weighing AT LEAST 6,001 pounds qualifies for these choice tax breaks (aka subsidies):

1) Thanks to the 100 percent first-year bonus depreciation privilege, you can write off the entire business-use percentage of the cost of a new "heavy" SUV that is placed in service by December 31, 2011 and used more than 50 percent for business.(Used vehicles do not qualify.)

2) Under the Section 179 deduction privilege, you can write off up to $25,000 of the cost of a used heavy SUV that is placed in service by the end of your business tax year and used over 50 percent for business. You can then depreciate the rest of the business portion of the SUV's cost using the normal rules..

I call it a tax deductions, N. calls it subsidy; this is where we differ. The government isn't entitled to all my cash; that's not how it works.

If these are new rules for 2011, the Obama signed them into law. I think a business should be able to deduct the cost of using any vehicle for business purposes. No reason capital investments can't be depreciated.

Meantime; Obama want's to give billions more to his crony green energy pals...

And how many hybrids are going to be used on a construction site? Used to tow a boat, trailer, or camper? The only thing a hybrid can be used for in a business is transport one or two people if one is driving. Which makes it less than practical as a taxi.

Of course if you want to end the subsidy for one then why not end them for all. Of course the fact is that farmers, construction companies and people who need something that can tow a trailer are still going to need something that can pull that trailer. Attach a plow and clear snow from a parking lot or driveway. Allow them to go off road to reach places to camp, fish, and hunt. Sorry, but a Prius isn't going to cut it.

Time to wake up and realize that you are the one who has failed to "get it". That the need for the SUVs isn't going to go away and until someone can come up with something better that hybrids are not going to cause them to disappear. Even if the subsidy for hybrids was 95% and SUVs zero.

Not to fret. The warmies have already succumbed. A LONG time ago:

Logic, knowledge & reason escapes them. And in the case of cc/mmcc everything, it's the real science that they relegate to myth, choosing to believe in a fairy tale and only what they are told to believe in.

Someone call for a taxi?

Of course, hybrids have much better mpg than their counterparts. However, hybrids are at their best in-city, delivering extraordinary mpg. Pollution emissions are greatly cut in cities, where pollution cuts are very much needed, for the health of children & people who live, play & work in city confines. That reason alone, make hybrids worthy. However, hybrid pollution & fuel consumption cuts are so dramatic, that businesses actually make more money with hybrids.

'tiny-minded anne' earns her name. However, beyond the tiny stretch of her mind, is her inability to get beyond her political beliefs which cause her to deliberately love to believe error, so that her political beliefs remain intact.

11 More Solyndras In Obama Energy Program

12 clean energy companies that are having trouble after collectively being approved for more than $6.5 billion in federal assistance. Five have filed for bankruptcy

Nevada Geothermal -- a home state project personally endorsed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid -- warns of multiple potential defaults in new SEC filings reviewed by CBS News. It was already having trouble paying the bills when it received $98.5 million in Energy Department loan guarantees.

SunPower landed a deal linked to a $1.2 billion loan guarantee last fall, after a French oil company took it over. On its last financial statement, SunPower owed more than it was worth.

I thought so. Tina so loves her SUV subsidy that she's contradicting her own hyperventilating over the national debt and subsidies to build renewable energy infrastructure. It's not welfare if it lines her own pockets, right?

As for all Tina's howls for the absolutely essential Christian rightness of SUVs for construction and farming, I wonder if she's aware that pickups are better for those tasks? So why do pickups get fewer subsidies? Maybe because suburban Republicans prefer SUVs, and they hold more political sway?

Yeah, sure it is. That's why they all take the money and do nothing and go bankrupt sooner rather than later or move on over to China and produce nothing of value, cheaper.

And funny how they are ALL tied to someone who has involvement and has donated to Obama $$$$ in some large capacity, tied to someone in Congress either directly or by a relative (nepotism) or friend who has donated heavily to their re election campaigns.

It's payback time. Certainly NOT to develop anything useful. DUH.
LOL.

It is extreme, consistant bad business decisions to pour tax payer guaranteed "loan" (rofl) money down a proven worthless rat hole and expect anything out of it.

But they want you to believe that they are really working hard on solving the problems...while their friends, relatives and donors get richer on taxpayer m$llions.

Yeah, FOLLOW THE MONEY.

And quit believing in fairy tales.

I understand that money is all that you do understand. I suppose that you do not wish for America to innovate and develop, that this is best left to other countries such as China. That is a recipe for becoming a second rate country.
