Greed. Hubris. Bad combination. At least he did not throw his son into the volcano as a sacrifice. But his son should also learn a really important lesson from this story.

John will be out. He will advise his son on cases and share the rewards. He will also serve as consultant to other trial attorneys and even run trial attorney schools.

Karoly should have learned from Gerry Spence.
In 2008 in a politically charged case brought by the Justice Department in Michigan against attorney Geoffrey Fieger, Spence won complete acquittals for his client on a ten-count indictment alleging federal campaign contribution violations, conspiracy and obstruction of justice.

If anything, he could pick up and go teach at Trial Lawyers College or create Trial Lawyers University here in the Lehigh Valley since no university will start a law school locally.

Spence is the founder of the nationally acclaimed Trial Lawyers College which established a revolutionary method for training lawyers for the people. He believes that what he has learned in a career should be shared with those who will continue to strive for justice on behalf of ordinary citizens. There he and his pro bono staff teach not only trial lawyers for the people but conduct a forum to help lawyers defeat the death penalty. He is the founder of Lawyers and Advocates for Wyoming, also a pro bono law firm representing the indigent.

John Karoly is no Gerry Spence, but he sure could have used him on his defense team.

Look at the whole picture here. He admitted that he was guilty of tax fraud. I think most every wealthy individual is somewhat guilty of this.Lets face it the Government hates when you steal from then they just don't like the competition. However every case he tried againt the police departments and the cities were legit.Which tells us abouit the corupt ways of the city and the some police officers. There are still more Lawyers available to fill his shoe's against the police department and keeping them in check.So because Karoly is gone .His sons are still free and cleared of everything as is Eric Dodle.All very good Attorney's.So you all can bash John all you want. His personal life is his and he will be held accountable for that . But everything he did to keep the cities and the police in check . I commend him for

Great news! John is a man who has always thought so highly of himself, he has no problem behaving like a jerk. In court and out he is a scumbag. He goes flying down the street in his car in my neighborhood, with kids playing, and doesn't even bother to slow down. But it is not as if he even cares about his own kid. I hope he does time. At least the kids in my neighborhood will be safe!

John Shane has been an "expert" witness as a medical expert for decades ... his involvement in this illegal scheme truly indicates how much of a prostitute he was as a paid expert witness.

Retain Geithner for counsel. How did he escape tax evasion charges?

Maybe go to Tom Daschle:$140,000: The amount of back taxes and interest that Cabinet nominee Tom Daschle (D) was forced to cough up after the vetting process revealed significant, unexplained tax liabilities.

or maybe Charlie Rangel:$75,000: The amount of money that the head of the powerful tax-writing committee, Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY), was forced to report on his taxes after the discovery that he had not reported income from a Costa Rican rental property. His excuses for the failure started with blaming his wife, then his accountant, and finally the fact that he didn't speak Spanish.

or one of the many others that are ABOVE the tax law but demand that you pay yours!

Good people make bad choices? I am thinking that this is an error as Karoly could NEVER be described as a "good" person. He is a bottom of the barrel example of the worst that lawyers have to offer.

Finally. Even if this is only the tip of the iceburg in this ever more corrupt world, it is some measure of justice. Lets see what the judge does at sentencing.

Well color me surprised, looks like Johnny finally used up his nine lives. It just shocks me that people with millions and millions of dollars just get greedier and greedier, it really is shameful. I'd be happy and honest with just a fraction of this.

JPK III and John Shane should not get off free of the charges of conspiracy and wire fraud for allegedly submitting bogus wills for Peter's estate. JPK Jr. is not above the law after all. I wonder how much of the unreported $5.2 million in income came from med-mal cases with Shane as the "expert witness".

The one thing that pleases me in this case beside the fact that an ambulance chaser is going to jail is seeing how little of the settlements that the plaintiffs actually got in these cases.

Psalm 37, 1-2, 9-11
Do not fret because of evildoers,
Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,
And wither as the green herb...
For evildoers shall be cut off;
But those who wait on the Lord,
They shall inherit the earth.
For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more;
Indeed, you will look carefully for his place,
But it shall be no more.
But the meek shall inherit the earth,
And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace...

How about all the turmoil he caused his sisters and wife's family.He gets absolutely nothing? The will forgery and trying to steal from your own family is worse than not paying your taxes!

It may have already been said, but any lawyer that defends scum drug dealers in a lawsuit against police, deserves to be in jail with the scum.
