It is sad to hear that one of Northeast Nebraska attractions has closed. When Dick Haskins ran the Zoo, he was working 15+ hours a day trying to make it work. Then he finally bailed out and got a job that paid money. After Dick left, the Zoo started to expand even more. This is my personal opinion, but, I never saw the reason for 4 chimps, two would of been more fit for the environment at the Zoo. Five Bengal tigers, three to many. Every article I read gives a different number of wolves. I donate a good sum of cash to a rescue unit for wolves and they house two wolves in a 1/2 acre inclosure, and they feel that this may be to small. If the Zoo has 10 - 15 wolves on 7 acres, they are packing in to may wolves in a small area. The last time I was at the Zoo a few years ago, they only had two, where are they getting all of the wolves. If they are breading wolves, why ? The Zoo always had limited funds, so where did they think they would get money to feed them ?
From what I read, in the Nebraska area - actually Colorado region, there is a Bengal tiger rescue farm, which is still open. They had an issue a few years ago where one of the tigers took off the arm of a person feeding the tigers. The USDA did not close them, only made them change some feeding procedures. There are also two wolves rescue in Colorado according to friend in NY that are good at relocating wolves. If the Zoo needs help, please respond to the post. |

The wolf rescue farm house two wolves per a 1/2 acre enclosure. They way I stated in the first post made it sound like they only had two wolves. I believe they have ten, but I have not been there in a few years, only my money has.
