Oil Pipeline through City of Seattle

On Monday, the City Council will consider and vote on whether or not to halt crude oil transportation until further investigation. The reason for the resolution is based on growing concerns over the safety of the public, considering the underground pipe system contains no insulation from the highly-flammable crude oil, and environmental factors.
Do the citizens of Seattle want such operations happening right under us? What could this investigation lead to in terms of alternative energy markets?
