im a kentuckian myself that has lived in seattle for just over two years from louisville. the thing is this, one never gets used to it. one adapts to it by accepting that you cant give money to them all and although you might every once and a while give money if you want, the best thing to do is to walk on and ignore them. most people wear ear buds and play mp3s so that they can put some barrier between them and potential panhandlers or harrasers. its a sad thing but nessessary.
I just tell the bum to bug off or I'll rip his head off from his shoulders. That usually does the trick.

If califoria had just fallen in to the ocean in 89 ,the flood would have been water, unfortunately some liberals escaped they traveled north and now we have the bums drugs and political deviants to protect them ,this is all due to liberal crazy ,the idea that whatever you want to do is just ok ,never mind if it is disruptive or immoral ,unless of course you think conservatively then obviously, your just an inbreed moron, who is inherently racist and wrong about everything
This is why our state no longer represents intelligence , so thank you Cali. next time just send send a photo of your demise and keep the freaks to yourselves.

I recently visited downtown Seattle for three days on a business trip. I'm from Central Kentucky which is largely rural--I am admittedly daunted by urban locales...I'm just not used to it.
But I do have one gripe about your fair city. The bums...I couldn't walk through downtown without being accosted by some bum giving me a sob story about a stolen computer and a sister who needed money to make the fair for the ferry. Some bums would follow me for two or three blocks.
I'm a small-town country boy, uneasy with being approached by total strangers. I guess what I'm wondering is this--how do you guys get used to it? How do you deal with it on a daily basis? Do you ignore? Do you respond, "Get out of my face, bum!"? Do you give money?
Would love to hear some insight on this matter. To be honest, the bums kept me from walking around the city.:-/
If I have the money I don't mind lending a dollar to a person in need, seattle is one expensive city life is hard, native Seattlers as myself and that I know are already that kind.. but it is easy to just ignore them or tell them "I'm sorry but I have none to give you." that's just the city you will get bums begging for change.

If you give money to a homeless person he or she will turn around and spend it on alcohol or other less legal drugs. That is not to say you shouldn't give money; just know where it's going before you give.
I find the best way to handle aggressive hobos is just ignoring them. The worst they will do is rant at you while you walk away. The last raving street lunatic that accosted me mistook me for a businessman because I happened to be wearing nice clothes. Little do they know most of us are 1-2 paychecks away from homelessness ourselves.
