There were some harsh words about Orangeburg, SC. I lived there all through grammer school and it has changed since the 80's and times now are very hard due to economic downfall there....not everyone wants to be a teacher and lets face it...The Prince of Orangeburg Mall does not have a Nordstroms or a Saks..or can do the residents shop there?....
It is what it is and for those who love it there, more power to them... I had to get away from there and Northern Va is treating me well.LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!
Do you LOVE paying high taxes as well?

Secondly, I am also a Times and Democrat Newspaper Correspondent.(reporter/writer ) I've also grown up here. The people of this community, regardless of race or whether they recieve welfare is not an issue. Dave, or anyone else, if you have a race issue, the south is not where you need to be.
I have had the ability to meet outstanding people who work hard to make a living. The majority are humble and honest. Every town or city in the country has crime, and Orangeburg is no exception. Our Sheriff has done an outstanding job decreasing our crime rate!! Orangeburg City Council is doing their best, constantly trying to improve the employement rate by bringing larger companies to our area.
There is so much for our citizens to do here. No we don't have major attractions, but we do have plenty of community functions that last throughout the year. Socializing with one another brings our close nit community stronger, better.
You claim to be a reporter/writer, yet you use words like "secondly"? You didn't say "Firstly," so why would you say "Secondly"? Also, "receive" is incorrectly spelled in your post, as is "employment." Finally, the term is "close-knit," unless you're referring to spacial relationships with regard to head lice eggs. I'm still trying to figure out how "socializing with one another" can bring a community "stronger, better."

There was a sign recently outside of SCSU which read:

My daughter is in seventh grade. Her SCSU educated "English" teacher cannot spell as well as my third grade daughter.
She is not unusual in SC public schools.
Our principal inherited this tenured moron during a district reshuffle.
She says that when a SCSU graduate applies for a teaching position other than P>E> she throws the application in the round file cabinet under the desk.

Orangeburg Blacks can be racist sometimes, including stores that they manage or own especially in Walmart, Lowes and Roses in Orangeburg. I'm not angry, but i think not all Whites are racist and treating a white person in a visibly racist way is unfair and stupid, cause not all whites are racist. Yet the biggest problem in the South is bad treatment of non-Americans, worse than racism. Business is turned down to anyone who is non-American and has an accent, politely usually, as if foreigners caused 9/11, yet 9/11 was clearly an inside job. What a shame.

White-on-White hate is very common throughout the South. Although Blacks tend to steal, lie and be lazy (not all), but usually they treat Whites better than Whites themselves treat other Whites.

Blacks in the South are much more friendly than the ones in cities like Chicago. In Chicago in a Black neighborhood you can get killed, in the South in a Black neighborhood you can get greeted. Maybe some would get killed or robbed, but that wold not be racial. Yes, there are racists in all races, but "scared dumb white people" in the South? are you sure?

Orangeburg is fine as long as you can deal with the sometimes openly black-on-white hatred and racism of some of the blacks including the stores such as Walmart or Lowes and sometimes outright theft. The other blacks are fine and friendly although many have this "inconvenience the whitey" agenda; its just its very hard to find a "black" (colored, mixed race, black) woman who would date a white man and sometimes those come in cute packages but they do discriminate in Orangeburg on racial grounds very often.

Move to Greenville, SC or Columbia, SC, especially Lexington, SC near Columbia if you like mostly white environment. There's also Rock Girl, sorry Rock Hill, SC which is pretty close to Charlotte, NC. You can also move to Aiken, SC which is close to Augusta, GA.

I agree with you. Groceries can not find items sometimes. Greeters are very nice. Mangers/ assistant very nice. Pharmacy employees very nice but the cashiers have an Attitude. I find this in all stores in Orangeburg Customers service is not what it used to be! when I was a cashier in Roses department store in 1982 you were friendly with all customers or you lost your job none of the stores in Orangeburg do this. to the cashiers in these stores I was on the otherside of the counter one time too think about how you want to be treated when Whatever happened to good customer service? We wonder why people do not shop in Orangeburg think about it?
