Why did he get 10 days and the others get only 5? The author of the article should have given us that information.

Kids will be kids, Sure they must be punished, and it sounds like a ten day suspension was handed out. I think that is punishment enough. We all make mistakes and learn from them. If you take this young man out of school and don't allow him the oppurtunity to play a sport, you are taking the risk that he will choose a life of crime instead. If anything give him a three game suspension next year as well. If you make him go to Bannerman, his hopes will be crushed. Bannerman holds students with severe problems. Students who like to hit teachers and things of that sort. The kids had alcohol in school, pretty bad yes, but come on. Have we all not made dumb mistakes in school. We were reprimanded, we overcame and we returned to school. Zero tolerance has taken the common sense away from principals and faculty. Dont ruin the kids future!!

He needs to know that moving to Duval County or any other county, is not going to get him out of going to alternative school and being sidelined. Wherever he "runs" to to avoid his punishment, he'll still have to serve his time away from the regular high school.

Actually, from looking at the college and professional football players, if you give them an all expenses paid education and pay them millions to play football, they still go on to lead a life of crime.

Duval can no doubt find a place for this fellow to fit right in. Perhaps he can then get a scholarship to FSU and then play for the Jaguars.

Why not everyone getting the same punishment, unless or course one or more are continuously in trouble. Could Jones be this one or is it just another unjustice for the school board.

Just read teacher drinking on school field trip, disciplinary action taken, what action unknown can't discuss none of your concern, teacher returns to work on Monday, kids doing the same 5 days suspension, reported on the news, one kid not to return. WHO ARE THESE SCHOOL BOARD people?
I'm going to run for the school board, my platform, 1st work to get removed the FCAT, 6 period a day everyday (lunch is NOT a period), start on chapter one and continue in order, no jumping around, there is a reason a text book is written the way it is, go thru the whole text book, each and every year, no half days, no other business or government closes for 1/2 a day to train, the teachers are paid college professional people on a SALARY, you want to train before or after school Saturdays and Sundays, one of the school hoidays, and no teacher planning day, if you can't be organized, than the fast food restaurants are looking for help, in school suspension is not a cleaning crew, in a room with school work all day with a packed lunch not to leave that room until the day is over, yes a restroom will be in the room just like KINDERGARDEN and lastly and most important TEACHER ARE NOT YOUR KIDS PARENT, your kid acts up, you shadow them quietly thru out the school day, if there isn't a chair, stand, be quiet, and slap your child everytime they act up if you miss work or lose your job, tough, IT'S YOUR OWN FAULT, you didn't raise your child properly, and parents pack a lunch the school will not feed you, because you aren't suppose to be there anyway, you screwed the school did not,(YET)

In case you did not notice, Middleburg High is in Clay County. The teacher caught drinking is in Duval County. Two different school districts, two different discipline policies.
Excellent work

Thank you to those alert enough to recognize that this is not this young man's first mistake. Also kudos to the comment about us never knowing the full story on this young man courtesy of laws that protect juvenile criminal records. Have a little faith that the principal and the school board looked at all the fact, not just those presented on First Coast News (which I usually respect, but all media has to work with deadlines that don't let them look into the full story before cut off time).

if this is the first time hes been in trouble then the punishment is unjust.the ten days should be enough punisment, but to say he can't return to his school next year, thats wrong!

according to ther students, this is far from being his first brush with the discipline aspect of the school he attends...so his punishment seems to fit the bill.
