Wow! You're a fruitcake. The city is run for and by the cuyahoga county democratic party right now. Almost of council is connected. Paulson is a ex-mayor who's been out of power for 10 years and he's not connected to any of the powers that run the city. John Day, the likely replacement for Jimmy dimora, is Paulson's opponents boss. Hence, you've got it exactly reversed.(P.S. For some reason, the solon dems hired his daughter onto the city payroll.)

Paulson doesn't hide anything. it's on his website for goodness sake. Please read the editorial in the July 30th edition of the Solon times. What Paulson did was co-mingle some campaign funds and pay it back. They said it was witch hunt (by your "old boys network" perhaps.)

Here- I'll make it easy for you. Excerpts below:

Solon Times, July 30th, 2009Editorial
For the record, stick to truth

It’s inevitable that the 1998 guilty plea by former Solon Mayor Robert A. Paulson to minor charges of mail fraud and filing a false federal income-tax return following an exhaustive witch hunt by the FBI will be rehashed during his latest attempted comeback. However, it would be a disservice to the voters of Solon and a stain on the good character of his opponent, Councilwoman Susan B. Drucker, if it becomes a defining issue of this campaign or if the truth is distorted.

The truth is that, on June 18, 1996, some 40 FBI agents descended on Solon in a reckless pursuit of rumors and innuendo driven by Mr. Paulson’s political enemies.

....

Only trivial charges in connection with Mr. Paulson writing checks from his campaign account in the early 1990s to temporarily cover personal expenditures were brought against him. But his campaign account had been repaid before the investigation began. There was no theft. There was no fraud. There was no intent to commit any crime.

....

Mr. Paulson pled guilty in order to spare his family a long and costly legal defense. He was fined $2,000 and sentenced to two years of probation, which was terminated after 10 months. His criminal record was expunged in 2004, because he didn’t do anything to deserve it in the first place.

One of the odd things about this new electronic age in which we find ourselves is that people routinely express themselves anonymously. That has some advantages, of course. But it also seems to cause people to adopt a tone they would not normally use. I don’t know who SolonJoe is, and I don’t know who “notbuyingit” is. For the record, I am Chris Fisher. I live on Southside Park in Solon. I’m concerned about the future of my community, and I think this is an important election. I’m also a lawyer. For what it’s worth, Paulson’s story about what he pled guilty to and why rings true to me.

On the issues, I want the next mayor to be someone who is vigorously pro-development. If you disagree with that, I would like to hear why. If you have insights about the candidates on that issue, I would be interested in hearing them.

On personality and character, we seem to have a mixed bag. I want someone with energy. I want someone with the experience, connections, and hard-headedness to get things done. Integrity is, of course, essential.

Paulson’s problems have been discussed, and there seems to be little new to be said. To me, they are not a concern. To some, they will be.

Scott seems strong. He seemed like he had a good shot last time, until the “inner circle” fiasco undid his campaign. Maybe I’m too forgiving, but I see that as a combination of bad press and poor attention to appearances, not corruption. But I can see how someone could disagree.

Drucker seems smart and energetic, but her resume seems a bit light. I will say this though – when my neighborhood flooded a couple of years ago, she worked hard, and effectively, to improve the drainage in the area. So I know she can get things done.

Anyone else running this time around?

>Anyone else running this time around?

Patton was running, but he pulled out. The only two candidates on the ballot are Drucker and Paulson.

Scott recently entered as a write-in. Conventional wisdom says a write-in has no chance, but this is an unconventional election with the current mayor pulling out.

I too wouldn't rule out Scott for his goofy 1000 dollar club. I ruled out drucker because she sat out last year's coral debate and because she's a member of the cuyahoga county democratic machine. But she may only be a bit player in the latter.

Paulson has a lot of people that hate him. I've yet to really understand why. I wasn't in Solon when he was mayor, but I understand he was far more hands on than Patton. In any case, I've tended to agree with many of his positions and I judge him to be the best for the job.

My take on Solon is that we waste tons of money, communicate poorly with citizens and we have many people in power that are self-important idiots. I'd like to see the entire leadership turnover. I wish Paulson was truly fresh blood too. Drucker, to be fair, is far less arrogant than most of the other folks on council. And this year, I've see a marked improvement in her level of leadership. But I've still see her as notch lower than both Paulson and Scott.

She (or her friends) have run a pretty dirty little campaign. But that's politics I guess. I suppose they think it's just fair play since guys like me make fun of Patton, her and the rest of council and leave Paulson alone. Who knows.

Sorry. If this is what matters to you, Scott is clearly your pick. Hands down winner. The skinny (as I know it) is that Drucker was against coral but wouldn't cross the mayor, so she said nothing. She refused to be in the Coral ad with the rest of council. She's also well known for being unfriendly to developers.

Paulson says he's for developers, but if you look at his recent record, then it's pretty clear he wants to curb their plans. I believe him in that he's a get a done kinda guy, but my gut says he'll say 'no' to developer at times that can risk a project.

Scott has always been the most pro-developer guy on council. He'll always find a way to support them. In the coral debates, he asked leading questions to highlight the positives-- to sell the project. He's your pick.

Thank goodness Solon had the sense to elect Susan.

And, what a jerk! On election day, Paulson was entering the Solon Recreation building and approached two 18 year old girls. They were wearing Drucker t-shirts and he told them that they should just go home because they were wasting their time. I guess he was the one wasting his time and Ormund's money.
