Im betting this is gonna be good for a short period , but the rents will probably be astronomical and since everyone everywhere is kinda broke the movies will do well but I dont see many stores doing to well..I do hope for the best ..but seeing how this city is run I dont have a big positive outlook..we need something to help the community and I hope this is a good step.

It's about time that city got someone to want to come there but honestly movie theater or not I couldn't think of a reason to go to Deltona. Everything I read about that city just makes it looks bad. I guess it's a haven for those that couldn't afford to live anywhere else because I can't think of any other reason to live there. It's a vast waste land.

Funny stuff in your post. Your attitude just reaffirms why no one does come there. I read that making bombs is a new industry for Deltona, good choice for the operation.

Unfortunately this article contains some invalid facts. First off , this project was slated years ago , but has gone through a mass of delays and initial funding & zoning conflicts. It was originally dubbed Sandpointe Towne Center and heaven only knows what name it's going by now. It was going up next to Deltona High School on the clearing between Howland & Normandy. Hell they said months ago that 2010 would be the target date , now their saying 2011. Hell a few months from now I wouldn't doubt it will get pushed even later. Their have been dozens of proposals in Deltona but none have gotten the green-light. As everyone knows the new Fire-station has been delayed , their were proposals for Deltona / Osteens 1st hospital which no more has surfaced on that and a proposal for a new amphitheatre that got scrapped. Quit making proposals and promises you can't uphold or afford to keep. One of Deltona's problems and as a resident of this community for over 30 years , their is nothing to stimulate the minds of the children or keep them occupied. Yea lets build bars , pubs and all this other crap. This isn't helping our children , it's not nourishing their minds or providing them to grow or interact with the community. So you build a skate park , whoopty-doo , it's overran with druggies and bums. They've even proposed building a strip bar , oh yea like that's good for the children. The communities going down the same road as Orlando or all the other communities , overran with gangs and filth. Hell the Volusia County Authorities reported 40 home invasions in Deltona just this first quarter of 2010. Not that i'm trying to deem that Deltona is bad , every community has it's pro's and cons , but the city council has too deeply work on this city's infrastructure and get their heads straight and stop making promises they can't keep. Build this community and nourish it , guide the children and the youth down the rightful path , instead of building trash and things we don't need , provide something of benefit to this city that will help our needs. So yea , go ahead and build another movie theatre , let it get overran with teens that have no where to go or anything better to do. I have to agree with both AWB & Vince , their is nothing their to benefit our community or to provide for our children , their is nothing to do there and the cops just won't let them parade all around town looking for something to do. They can't take their bikes or skateboards to a plaza to have a good time , their are no social hang-out spots. Screw the bars , the businesses and all these other high-tax , incentive , money making ventures and provide this community with something of physical benefit. Furthermore get Dennis Mulder out of office , he has done nothing but run this city into the hole.

Learned tonight that plans have "changed" and the development that was initially outlined for the property my be different than what was promised. This is what happens when the Deltona Commissioners go ahead with plans without finding out what the people want and what Deltona can actually AFFORD. Agreed, strip clubs and bars aren't the way to go. A responsible and well thought out business plan and a place for the kids to go with constructive activities after school (and during the summer) is the way to go.

it`s not fair to gauge a city by it`s high crime rate, violence, lack of education, impoverished and unsanitary living conditions. FOR SOME CULTURES, such conditions are accepted, exciting and proud way of life. (like being raised by goats) the foodstamp people wouldn`t have it any other way. IT`S THEIR CITY-LET THEM ENJOY IT. don`t be a snob.

I would like to add to these comments by saying, What have you done to help any of these problems? You can sit here and write negative comments but it doesnt help the situation at all. So how can some of you write negative comments when others dont even live here? So how do you want this city to get better if you dont even agree that the city needs more commercial devolpment and job opportunities?

No strip clubs...no more bars...no more car washes! If the City thinks strippers and beer are what Deltona needs, then they might as well pull the signs down and let the scrub brush grown back over the property in question. I'd much rather put up with a scrub jay or gopher tortoise, then a reckless development decision from a fly-by-night City Commissioner and a playboy Mayor.

You just made the case for someone to dislike Deltona. You sure swayed me. Deltona is the perfect example of sprawl. I think Deltona is the worst planned community I have ever seen. The city seems to have no leadership that is mature enough to lead it. I doubt having a movie here will change the city very much. It still will be a mass of houses and it will continue to look shabby and attract the kind of people that like to live that way. Expecting it to turn form a pig's ear to silk purse because it has a movie is just the king of thinking that created this mess we call our city.

Really what can resident do? Call or write their commissioners and hope they listen and obvioulsy that haven't. Stop trying to lay the blame for this mess of a city of the residents. Once we elected these commissioner they ignore us.

Forget looking for upscale amentities in Deltona, it's not the town for that. The city's image needs sprucing up to attract jobs. The city looks like it's one step from a ghetto. Ride around and see for yourself.

It doesn't attract businesses or jobs for reasons.

It needs rock solid leadership that listens to the people.
