Do we have a police department in Oran MO

It has come to my attention that we do not have a police department in our town. Case and point the Knights of Columbus parking lot after 9-10pm in Oran has become a hangout for any and all. Several times I have drove by it and it is packed with people of teenage to the early twenties crowd. Some of these people are not even from this town. The following morning on my way to work you can see the trash left behind from the night before and you see alcohol packaging and trash.
Alcohol has become a very big problem in and amongst our youth of our town. We lost a couple of teenagers not too long ago due to this and it was sweep under the rug. I feel for the family of those 2 individuals. It has become taboo to talk about this.
Where are our Police Chief and Mayor on this along with the city council? You the government of Oran who we elected are putting each and every citizen at risk in so many ways but yet you do nothing.
Parents are providing alcohol and parties at their homes. I think the parents should be locked up. Rick Walters is the best thing that has happen to Scott County I wish I could say the same for our Police Chief.

he answers to the Mayor who is afraid of people with certain names in this town. He doesn't have nor has he ever had a backbone. I'm amazed he can walk upright. It's not our Chief's fault. He's doing his job. To do it fully and correctly he needs the support of our "fine" excuse of a Mayor.

I agree, alcohol is a huge issue in this town and many adults provide it to our youth. Even adults who are on the school board or teaching our innocent children.

Those kids are going drink and drive and kill an innocent child or family one day.

Act ignorant and you will find out real quick if we have law enforcement in town.

If you are so concerned, call the state liquor inspector, they have the ability to come and make the police take care of this problem. Once it is found who bought the liquor for the minors, they can be ticketed and must appear in court. If a business with a liquor license sold it to a minor, they can be shut down and if it keeps happening, they can loose that license.
Drinking when a minor is not cool, supplying liquor to minors is not cool. Being the cause of death for anyone because you are drunk certainly isn't cool. Kids think they are Superman on steriods, wakeup kids before you become a statistic.

It is apparent that you don't see the ignorance of minors in our town.

Isn't this the same town that not that long ago ran a cop out of town for doing his job. "This is Oran we don't need that here" if I remember the quote right. Make up your mind people.

The thing here is that our cop IS trying to do his JOB. He does the best he can and I support him. Most of us do. He lacks the support of our wonderful mayor who is afraid of too many people in this town. As for the cop that was "ran off". He was hired by the mayor and had the support of the mayor. Our mayor was behind him 100%. I heard those exact words from the mayors lips. It was when those citizens that have our mayor in their hands became "victims" of the former cop that the mayor "ran him off". Just sayin'

Seriously? If you look at the ward votes, it looks like we had somewhere around 286 people vote. School Board was the only thing on the ballots that we voted the most for. Yet if you look at how many of those that voted for school board candidates felt our mayor and collector were doing a good enough job to mark the box next to their name considering no one was running against them. I mean, if they felt these two were doing a good job, they'd have at least marked the box in support. This should show that we as a town, do not support either candidate. The mayor only received 65 votes and the collector 65 - out of 286 ?? Sad. In addition, it would seem to me a conflict of interest to have the husband of the collector as alderman. It's a small town I know, but this seems like a conflict of interest. Does it not?
There should be term limitations in city government to keep everyone honest.
As for as how I voted? For Mayor: Goofy; Collector: Porky Pig
Both would be more qualified and likely to a better job in my opinion.

If the police was doing their job in Oran there would not be a purple haze hanging over the town and the reek of stale booze.

It is apparent that the Chief is not doing his job because of the continuous use of the Knights of Columbus as a hang out.If it wasn't for the county and state patrol nothing would be done about it. I have personally seen him use the city police car as a school bus. Has anyone seen him sitting on Hwy 77 running radar for all the speeders that go by Manac? Or anywhere accept to at the school? Several times I have witnessed people crossing from the employee lot to the plant and almost get ran over.
Steve was an employee of The Scott County Sheriff’s Department until the accident he had that killed 3 people south of Scott County Central High school. He was also under the Bill Ferrell Administration. Need I say anymore?
I agree that the mayor who was also the post master has no spin. I vote every time we have an election.
Instead solely depending upon the tax payers of Oran for your salary how about you do some speed patrol. I would like to see how many tickets he has wrote since being the chief. The chief before him did a good job but when you have pipe bombs thrown at your house I guess I would worry about my family to.
I personally think we should have a town vote on the office of police chief doing at the same time we elect the mayor. Where is our tax money going that we pay each year?

If anyone has proof of adults buying liquor for minors; tell the county sheriff. Back up your claims or don't make them.
