The nickname "Goose" is not an accident. Who knows, after the way we voted for mayor and for Laura as sheriff. We elected a crazy one for mayor. We already have a crazy one for chief. If he gets re-elected and Laura wins for Sheriff, Eunice will be finished.

BOBCAT, I AGREE WITH YOUR DESCRIPTION OF YOUR MAYOR BUT AS FOR AS LAURA IS CONCERNED, HOW WOULD HER ELECTION HURT EUNICE?? I FEEL SHE HAS BEEN DOING A VERY GOOD JOB.

Obviously, you believe what is in the media. She controls what is released to the media. If you only knew the things that are being held from the media. Look at the number of deputies that have been arrested in the last six months. Stuff like that is not happening in other departments. I know there were some recent troubles with the Eunice police department, but those are isolated incidents.
Her election would hurt the entire parish, especially Eunice. After the voters in Eunice turned down its employees raise, how long do you think the police department will continue to survive? The officers will find other jobs that pay much more than they are making now and that does not take more than a job at McDonald's. Many are looking for jobs right now. Who is going to take over law enforcement in the city? Do you know the caliber of deputies employed by the sheriff's department? Believe me, the officers of the Eunice police department are one thousand times better than you can find at the sheriff's office. There are some good qualified and honest deputies there. But, the are many rogue deputies. Many, like Laura, have no training. Who do you want answering a complaint if you are the victim of a crime. God forbid you, your children, or someone elses life depends on a deputy that has no training. What if a deputy like Rick Leger's son has to make a shot to save your life? Just think about this! He has not completed a basic training academy. That means, according to state law, he has no authority to make arrests, he has no authority to write tickets, and he has no authority to carry a gun that he has not been trained with. But, he does. I hope for your sake you or anyone else are never placed in that situation, but think about it. Research what I am saying. You will find this to be the truth. I know Rick Leger has influence over many Eunice residents, remember, Rick has a "position" to protect like a few others.

I don't know how he got that name, but I have gotten to know him and, in my opinion, the name fits.

I agree with you. I just question whether Eunice is going from bad to worse. However, I guess maybe it could be a good thing. It sends a message to elected officials that if they aren't cutting it then they will be cut. What about the chief's race? Do you have an opinion on that?

One more thing, have you seen what has happened in New Iberia? I hope that could be a lesson to all cities.

Just so you know, Rick Leger's son is not a patrolman. He works in the office doing computer work and taxes. If you'd been around in the past, oh, two to three years, you would know that. Mind yourself....and do you know how well someone can shoot unless you administer the test yourself? You might be surprised!

He carries a gun, Illegally! It is not about his ability to shoot. It has everything to do with the liability he brings to the sheriff's office and the fact that the law can be broken by law enforcement officials. If you think that this alright, I can see the reason this parish is in the unethical shape that it is in. This thinking appears to be the mentality of the entire state. I'm not picking on Leger, I only used that as one example of the many unethical and sometimes illegal practices of the sheriff's office. This did not begin today, yesterday, or even last year. It has always been that way and doesn't seem like this interim administration is trying to change it.

New Iberia is an example of a city that neglected its police department. It abolished its police department and turned over law enforcement responsibilities to the sheriff's office. Since, the crime rate has exploded. It is no longer safe to walk through their city's park. Irresponsible deputies sprayed large crowds the pepper spray a few weeks ago and nearly cause a riot during the sugar festival. These are only a few examples. The New Black Panthers are threatening to take over their streets. The point that I am trying to make is that a neglected police department will eventually no longer function. It will get to the point that there will be persons in uniform that are less than desirable citizens. Eunice cannot attract quality officers at the its present pay. When it gets to that point, who will keep the city safe?

And just to let you know, Rick Leger's son was a patrolman. I personally witnessed him making traffic stops.

BOBCAT, YOU SEEM TO KNOW A LOT ABOUT A LOT OF THINGS. WHY DID THE PEOPLE OF EUNICE NOT VOTE FOR THE TAX FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT??? I DISAGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THE SHERIFF'S DEPT. I DO KNOW QUITE A FEW OF THE EMPLOYEES THERE AND THEY ARE GOOD MEN DOING A GOOD JOB AT A DECENT, NOT FANTASTIC, WAGE.
IF YOU LISTENED TO THE NATIONAL NEWS TONIGHT, THE
MURDER AND ROBBERY RATE HAS RISEN DRAMATICALLY OVER THE WHOLE UNITED STATES. I BELIEVE IT WAS ABC NEWS. AGAIN, OVER ALL, I THINK ST LANDRY IS DOING
WELL.

That's good question about the tax. I guess they are like everyone else, they are tired of paying and paying. It doesn't seem to concern anyone, though. I didn't say there wasn't good people at the sheriff's office. There are many good people at the sheriff's office. I wish you could meet some of the others. I bet your opinion would change instantly. The wage is not fantastic, but not bad.$2450 a month puts deputies well about the average St. Landry Parish income. That is about the income of the Eunice Chief of Police. The sad part about the income of the deputies is that sales tax that was passed a few years ago is not going where it was promised. Why do we settle for what we have? Can't Louisiana and its residents ever expect more than what they are getting for their tax dollars? Does anyone have any ideas of what will happen in the Eunice Police Department? Over half of the department is inexperienced. Many guys that have been there a while are seeking other employment and retirement.

OK, FIRST OFF: WHY DID THE CITY WASTE OVER 2 MILLION DOLLARS ON A BALLPARK WE DIDN'T NEED? WHAT THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE WITH THE 2 MILLION PLUS WAS HIRE MORE POLICE OFFICERS AND RAISED THEIR PAY. THE CURRENT CHIEF OF POLICE, GARY FONTENOT WENT ON A LOCAL NEWS BROADCAST AND SAID "THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF POLICE OFFICERS ON THE FORCE". NOW, COME ON PEOPLE, WHY WOULD HE SAY THAT ON THE NEWS? THAT IS JEOPARDIZING THE CITY OF EVEN MORE CRIME.( LIKE WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH.) EVERYONE GRIPES AND COMPLAINS THAT THEY POLICE OFFICERS DON'T DO THEIR JOBS. THEY DO THEIR JOBS, BUT I DO FEEL THAT THEY DON'T DO THEIR BEST. WHY, YOU MAY ASK, WELL IT ALL STEMS BACK TO THE MAYOR ( LYNN LEJEUNE) AND HER 2 MILLION DOLLAR UNNECESSARY BALLPARK. SHE SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THE SAFETY OF HER CITIZENS INSTEAD OF THE IMAGE OF THE BALLPARK. NOW FOR BOB MORRIS. WELL, THIS MAN WOULD DO SOME GOOD FOR THIS CITY. HE IS THE TYPE OF PERSON WE NEED . HE FOUGHT THE CITY FOR THE ALLEY ON ULYSSE ST.( WHICH THE CITY DID NOT WANT TO LET GO OF, EVEN THOUGH HE HAD PROOF IT WAS HIS). WELL, I LIVE IN THAT NEIGHBORHOOD, AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO IS GLAD HE GOT POSSESSION OF HIS ALLEY. WHY AGAIN? WELL, BOB MORRIS GOT THE DRUGGIES OUT OF THAT ALLEY, WHICH I AM THANKFUL FOR BECAUSE WHO KNOWS WHAT WOULD HAVE BECOME OF IT HAD THE CITY TAKEN OVER IT. THE CITY SURE WOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN THE DRUGS OUT. NO ONE ELSE HAS THE BALLS TO SPEAK THEIR MIND LIKE BOB MORRIS DOES. BOB, YOU HAVE MY VOTE IN NOVEMBER. AND I HOPE YOU WIN, BECAUSE WE NEED SOMEONE LIKE YOU. NOW, I AM SURE THIS WILL CAUSE CONTROVERSY, BUT WE ARE ALL ENTITLED TO OUR OPINION. MAYBE I SHOULD ATTEND A CITY MEETING AND BRING THIS UP, OR WRITE A LETTER TO THE EUNICE NEWS? CITIZENS OF EUNICE , YALL NEED TO WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE, YOUR CITY IS IN JEOPARDY !!

<quoted text>Whatever happens we need to take our city back from the criminals who chose to run it. I am saddened by the number of people who are sitting in their front yards at 10 in the morning drinking beer instead of working. No law governs that I know but the general attitude is disheartening. I am distressed by the attitude of our city police who think that a policeman's job is to bully as opposed to protect, educate and uphold the law.
I think Goose needs help. I don't think he has the proper resources. I also am not really sure that he is that interested in being reelected. I haven't noticed any serious campaiging by him.
I like Goose. When I needed help , he approached the situation very professionally and gained my respect even though he "voted" against me. He seemed fair and unbiased. The other candidate on the other hand seems very arrogant to me. My recent personal experience with him left me with the feeling that he was dishonest to his advantage. It involved the sale of real estate. I can't respect that in any elected official. I know that is expected of many politicians but I don't really feel we should tolerate it. I also know that some of his siblings are voting for Goose and one is even sporting a vote for Goose bumper sticker. That tells me more than specifics about his qualifications.
Thanks for your openness and willingness to discuss. I am interested in making Eunice a better place to live but not to the point where I would ever consider running for a public office. I think many of them are unable to make decisions without "the committee"s approval.

I don't think we have to worry about Lynette Feucht, all she does is drink her vodka. Once, I was in court with a friend, and she was actually sleeping in court, while things were going on, When the police officer noticed I noticed her sleeping, he motioned for me to shhh. I was like, what the hell kind of person do we have for as judge? Now, come on people, we all know she is tired, but being tired was not the contributing factor in this one. Oh, and I am not the only person who knew she was sleeping, there were like 5 other people that noticed too, they were loking at each other and looking at her , then smiling. This city is a big crock of you know what!!! Something needs ot be done about the crime and drugs in this city, peopel are getting tired of their houses being broken into and nothing being done about it. Not too long ago I witnessed a drug deal in the projects area, it didnt do me any good to call police, they were gone by the time I got into my car. WAKE UP EUNICE!! DO I HAVE TO LIST NAMES OF DRUG DEALERS ON HERE TO GET SOMETHING DONE FOR MY CITY!!!!!!
