FTA: "We watched it from 99 Bottles and everybody was screaming..."

Were they screaming because of what was on TV or were they screaming because of all the cockroaches that place has? Jebus Chrito, don't EVER eat at 99 Bottles... Unless you like Roaches in your salad.

That's funny that Sentinel said they quoted their "Saturday's Santa Cruz Sentinel article." Wasn't it in fact Nicole Teutschel's quote? Can you say plagiarism!

The elephant seal is OK. Colbert is a douchenozzle. He would make a good host for Ow My Balls. Yup, talkin' about his audience: TV zombies.

Hey uh Clem, can you back up your comment? Colbert is one of the funniest shows out there and his mocking of conservative talk show hosts shows the best of sarcastic comedy. How is his audience somehow less intelligent than that of say the audience of Bill O'Reilly, that is, the audience of the show he is making fun of??!!

Wow. Back in '71 or so, my Saratoga boy scout troop (whose scoutmaster had a connection with the landowners) got permission to camp out there one winter weekend just before it got handed over to the state. An intensely bipolar camping experience. It was cool to be 'out there' at land's end with the light from Pigeon Point sweeping across the night sky but cold and lots of sand blowing throughout our tube tents and sleeping bags. Only 3 or 4 seals -- the beaten-up loser males from battles at the main colony on the island -- where hauling out then.

That clip was hilarious! Proud to see the Marine Lab getting that much attention, way to go. Colbert was in true form here...

too bad you can't broadcast the elephant seal stink over the air, ol' stephen would lost his lunch right on the air. Go visit the Long Marine tanks on a hot still day, those things win the foulest animals award easily. Friggin awful, like smelly beast and rotting fish and farts all mixed together.

I wish the Sentinel could have come up with a better headline/teaser -- Colbert was not at all "unappreciative." He devoted quite a bit of air time to the story. To say he was "unappreciative" is totally misleading.

Colbert is not, and has never been, funny. I do not know what keeps him on the air, it surely can't be ratings. Anyway, what a waste of news space.

Except that his ignorant comment is based on a very old, very misogynistic put-down of women who are considered less than desirable by pinheaded men. Too bad Colbert doesn't have a nice personality, because he sure doesn't have much going on as far as looks or intelligence.

These name for the e-seals are a bit too childish. Originally, the seals were given numbers (and their hides were so marked). Naming was thought to be unscientific. That might be an extreme view, but giving them cutsie names gives people the impression that they are jovial and entertaining animals -- circus seals. It's undignified.

I asked an old acquaintance (well-educated, so I would expect better) what he read or watched to get his news. He told me he watched Stephen Colbert. That told me far more about him than I wanted to know.

Exactly. The difference between fantasy and reality is lost on such people, and has a lot to do with where we are at collectively as a culture today.
